Today’s lil blog may surprise you a little bit, but photos don’t lie. When you think about the Finns, you usually think that after shredding it up all day, it is party time all night. Well, you are wrong my friend. These guys are little entrepreneurs, whether it is in the car, on the couch or even traveling to major financial and business destinations around the world. Check out the look in Backstrom’s eyes, he is one focused businessman. Next , check out EEro, and although he is in the middle of partying, he still has time to call his broker in LA and buy and sell some more stocks. IIkka and EEro recently made a quick stop in New York to look over their portfolios and investments, which are indeed strong to quite strong.

What !can I say about this guy, I think 2 words really sum this guy up. Powder Monkey! His name might as well be IIkka Backcountrystrom since he loves it up in squamish/whistler so much. Word on the street is that he is looking for a huge Gallant-like property way up in the Squamish highlands as we speak. This guy won’t stop talking about four wheelers, Squamish nightlife, getting a husky, … he just loves it out here. Right when Iikka got to town, I got to shoot some lifestyle stuff with him, and boy did our little shoot work out well. The first shot is of Iikka making a little breaky, and boy are those eggs cooked perfectly. Sunny side up baby! Next, the shoot moved on to the the living room, where I-man got down to a little biz. Mostly I-chat, but still business. He then help me look for one of my missing couch pillows, but no luck. Rencz and J-bone are still my number one suspects in this case. Anyways, Iikka is pretty hyped these days since signing on with DC. He will be shredding a bunch up here in the BC backcountryfor Whiteout and down at the Mountain Lab for the DC video aswell. We are pumped to welcome him, Devun and Lauri back to the crew for 07. Good luck with the property hunting I-man!!

After a year off doing the Forum movie, we are super psyched to welcome IIkka back to the crew. Along with Iikka, we are also going to be filming Lauri and Devun. I found this sweet photo from one of the Japan slopestyle trips a few years back. Make sure you all check out the wildcats site that is now up at www.the-wildcats.com and read JF's writing, it is a treat.

One last shredding photo from Eero down in Cali this fall. He can really shred it up out there. We will be finalizing our new Whiteout Crew here shortly and have some sweet new riders joining the crew. Eero just headed back to Finland for the Holidays and will be back to shred it up in Whistler in January, which just got 60 cms overnight. Yeooooowwww!!!

As we are moving into the season, we realized we were pretty under-staffed here at whiteout. We asked Marty to take a pay cut so we could bring in some interns to help us. I have been so busy with the blog that no one has answered the phones, collected faxes, cleaned the laboratory, etc.. I chatted with Rencz and EEro and they had just gone to a big fashion show down in LA and had mentioned a lot of the girls were really unhappy with their current modeling jobs and were trying to find a way to break into the snowboard film industry.
After a fews meetings and interviews, we have hired on three new ladies. They are on strict probation and will watched closely by everyone here, especially Marty. Since we have only previously hired filmers, editors, and scientists here at Whiteout, the work atmosphere around here is surprisingly cheery since the new hirings. We'll keep you posted on all new staff changes, and are really taking a chance on these girls. But hey, its the holidays!!

So far, the submissions for the best party of all time have been pretty weak. This very well could be one of the best potential party nights of your life, and it seems that we have a leader so far. Big Mike sent us over a few photos, and it looks like I may have to plan a scouting trip to this spot and make sure it is as good as it looks. Safety does appear to be a concern here, as a few of the Wildcats may have to brush up on their swimming lessons and the rule of no swimming for 45 minutes after eating will be strictly enforced. Eero and Mikey have been to this spot and have agreed that we could have a sweet time here, although Eero warns everyone of diving into the shallow end after a couple of Coronas.
7 staples for lil EEro.

It seems that a lot of people were pretty intimidated by the Mikey and Eero photo that I posted from a couple days back and were worried these two would be causing problems at the best contest ever. I can confirm that they will be well behaved and have included the below photo to show that they have mellowed out a bit.

I have consulted with K-man and our in-house scientist Marty and we have concluded that the ones to watch out for would be Devun and JF, shown here up at Mt Seymour. These 2 guys are pretty small little guys that pack a mean party punch. We all agree that JF will be shirtless within the first hour of the party and that Devun will be egging him on to do something unclassy. These 2 guys have been spending a lot of time together re-structuring Wildcats clothing and can be a pretty dangerous party duo like we saw in Munich this year. You can refer to one of K-man's previous blogs on IS Design's site to see specifics. These 2 can also snap a mean wildcat on the slopes, and can see this evidence in the upcoming Big Bastards movie.

Lastly, I have been told that I cannot bring my party partner JP Pelchat to the best contest ever party. JF and JP have not been getting along that well lately since JF has been very successful with his snowboard career while JP has achieved success only at the local watering hole. As such, I have been hanging and riding a lot with JP and am absolutely positive he did not punch out that waitress for serving him cold poutine. He may have slightly pushed her, but the charges should definitely be dropped. Sorry JP, but as soon as you trim up that beard and clean up your legals woes, we'll make sure you can roll with us again.

Whiteout is really psyched to welcome Dufficy back to the crew this year. Duff has had some injuries that have put him on the sideline the last little while but it is clear from last nights antics that he is more than good to go. Duff is straight up gnarly, and extremely motivated so watch yourself. He has been eyeing up a few ridiculous things he wants to film and last night he shut it down. Two tries, doggy! Below is a photo of Duff checking the shot with Curley, a photographer up from the US of A. Next we have Duff celebrating with the K-man. K-man looks extra happy, probably with a little help from the 8 pack of golden throat charmers we drank while we were there. (Scientific fact- Duff has 10 more teeth than any other human ) These little missions can get pretty hectic, but are more than worth it when it all comes together. Duff has officially kicked off the season with a, how do you say, banger!

There has been a lot of concern about the party for the Best Contest Ever getting a little out of control. We have already received millions of calls and emails worried that JP Pelchat, JF's brother from Sherbrooke, will be showing up and crashing the party. We have asked JF to sit him down and have a serious chat with him. Below is a picture of JF giving JP a little pep talk about party etiquette, beard trimming and just how to keep a more positive attitude in general. Turns out JP has a little court date back home so we can all breathe a sigh of relief. JF however will be at the best party ever, and will be bringing along Gaetan, Eero, Paavo, Devun,Browner, Kale, K-man, J-Bone, Reno B, Benji, Renczy, Duff, Jake the Bottle, Dirty Pete, Twon, Dominic...the list goes on. There has even been talk of us renting one of those hut-tub party buses to get there, but it all depends on how far we have to travel. Everyone is pretty hyped on this contest and is ready to go so make sure you have a good spot planned out. Kale has requested a worldly cheese plate would be key upon arrival at the party.

Best Contest Of All Time
Ok, pretty excited over here about this new contest. Kman and I came up with an awesome contest that we are ready to get going. We have had a few contests so far on the blog, and it looks like Jonathan_K at snowboard.com took home best hairdo. Email me your address and I will send some prizes out, my lil friend.
Anyways, here we go with the best contest of all time. We want you to see who can host the best party ever, and in return all of the Wildcats and their close party associates will come to your mansion/house/castle and party our socks off. The party will be filmed and featured in the new Wildcat and IS design movie entitled Big Bastards due out next fall.
What we need from you is photos and submissions of the actual party atmosphere including party location and details. We need to see who indeed we will be partying with and how the party will unfold. It should be noted that we are all partial to Hot Tubs, Bikinis, Foosball tables, Coldies and Kegs which can easily sway our votes. Please email location photos and partying resumes to contact@whiteout-films.com aswell as info@isdsgn.com and we will forward them to all the shredders and see what they think.
Here are a couple serious partiers wondering where the best party of all time is going to be held.

Here is an idea of a location that we would entertain partying at.

Seems like the blog has been a little rough around the edges over the past few days. There have been some pretty unclassy posts lately with photos of dudes with shi*tty haircuts, people getting dusty and holding beer cans so I thought I would post some classy photos to get back on track. When you think classy, probably the classiest thing you can do is get super dressed up and get married. Not many people in the Whiteout crew have done this with the exception of Shin, so I thought I would post some shots I just ran into of Devun and his new wife Julia Walsh. It is a scientific fact that Dev's wedding in Maui was top notch.
Anyways, after filming for the Forum movie and getting hitched last season, Whiteout films is super excited to welcome Mr. Walsh back to the crew. It is going to be scary to see what kind of footage we are going to end up getting when you think of Tadashi, Renczy, Eero and the rest of the shredders getting to ride with Devun again. As you probably saw in the Forum video, Devun hit some pretty huge jumps and has even scoped a bunch of new ones he is psyched on hitting up in 07. I am going to end this post with one last classy bit of info about mr. Devun Walsh. He has a hole-in-one on a 186 yard par 3 at Northlands Golf course. I, on the other hand, do not.

Here are a couple more photos from some of the riders from this fall. In the first one we have Lauri asking Eero if he can stay at 8 mile this winter. Eero had to explain to Lauri that you have to be under 5 feet tall to even fit in the bunk beds, but if they do the renovations that Browner suggested about filling the living room with 3 more sets of regular bunk beds, he can stay for sure.

The second shot is Kale ripping it up down in SD. You would think he is pointing at the photographer in this shot but has instead spotted a huge block of Jalapeno Havarti Cheese at a nearby picnic that he wants to take down.

The season has been off to a ripping start, and we have been shredding up at Grouse Mountain non stop. Dufficy, Fox, Devun, Paavo, Eero, all of the Office boys, the OG Wildcats, Bonez, and Marty have all been up there having sweet pow runs full of tree bonks and pillows. Everyone has brought up their digi cameras but the shredding has been so good we are all yet to get a good action shot. Also, Marty is just too damn fast. Got a good chillin shot of me, Dev and Bonez after some amazing pow runs down Purgatory and Devil's advocate, had to throw in those names. Also, finally got a shot of Duff rolling back to his new minivan after the day was done. He can actually fit his sled right in the back of it, which prevents any dirt, sand or rust from covering it. See you up at Grouse soon, and keep a heads up for the Office Boys. Those guys sure can shred it up and will straight run you down if you get in their way.

Although Marty has been busy shredding up the Grouse mountain and hitting the lab with K-man from IS design working on weather patterns, he has suggested that we get a Jesse Fox update posted, and pronto! So here we go with Foxy. Although Jesse has a few shots in last year's Big Blind, this was the first full season he filmed for Whiteout. Most of his shots were filmed up in the Whistler backcountry, where Jesse lives throughout the winter months. As soon as the season is done, Foxy holds it down in Vancouver where he recently got a new condo set up. Jesse has been around for a while, and has switched it up from the contest scene over to concentrating on filming a tight movie part. He had a sick section in Wear It Well, and you can see most of his shots via digital photographs in the latest issue of Snowboard Canada where Foxy has a full on interview and the cover shot. Foxy shreds it up for Rome Snowboards and bindings, NFA clothing, Oakley, Grouse mountain and Budweiser. Check out the laser beam coming out of Fox's beer can, one of Foxy's go-to party tricks.

Here's a little update on the main man behind the scenes and the lens at Whiteout. Anthony was once the team manager for Shorty's and for Westbeach back in the day, and even a pro shredder before that. He is now the Producer of the Whiteout movies aswell as the head cameraman, and often ends up our designated driver as he seems to be the responsible one. Everyone at Whiteout gives Twonner a pretty hard time on a regular basis, and he ends up being a pretty good sport with all of us. Not many people would laugh off their truck being thrashed up by a bunch of crazy Frenchman on Halloween, but he sure did. Twon is the guy who organizes all of the film shoots and motivates the riders to get the shot. He is the first one there in the parking lot every morning, and always has a coffee in hand. Here is a little photo of Anthony filming Devun's wedding this past May in Maui, where he made sure the whole wedding was perfectly documented while the rest of us drank as much champagne as possible. The next one is Twon, Mikey and Paavo waiting for their Vente triple shot skim lattes at the mall. Anthony and the rest of us here at Whiteout are getting pretty hyped for the season, and judging by how the season is off to such a bangin' start, you're probably going to see some crazy footage from the Whistler backcountry.

Looks like people are steppin' it up in the hairdo contest and not just gonna let the J-man take the Wear It Well and Big Blind prize pack so easily. Not the most classy haircut ever, but awesome nonetheless. Here is shi*thead!

I mentioned a quick bit about it a couple days ago, but here is the actual scientific evidence of the legends of shredding on Blackcomb's opening day. The only guys missing would be Johnson, Kearns, and Kevin Young. If you don't know what I am talking about, you really need to watch some old snowboard videos, and you are an idiot. The first shot is Marc Morrisett, Wes Makepeace, Dano Pendygrasse, myself, Alex Warburton, Devun and JF. I pretty much just snuck into the shot to show I am down with these guys. The picture was taken by fellow legend and Whiteout Filmer Anthony Vitale. Quick Fact- Wes launched huge road gaps with no shirts on (Whisky 2), and Marc and KY have the best shred-style... ever. The second photo is Shin Campos, Browner, Brad Makepeace, Chris Dufficy, Roth, Colin Adair, Dano, Kale and Warburton. We all had a sweet-ass time up there, and it is always fun to meet up with these guys. What you should do now is try and find some of the amazing movies these dudes were in, including the Whisky videos, Child Games, Sexual Chocolate, A Young, Brown Walsh, and see how good all these guys are. "History,my friends, is just as important as Science!!" Marty.

OK, here we go, time for another contest. The Halloween contest had some pretty weak submissions, so we voted JF's costume as the Frenchman to be best costume. No prizes for him, so we went back to the laboratories with Marty and his team and have come up with a new one. After multiple experiments and vigorous scientific testing, we came up "best hairdo contest". We want to see your best haircuts, and will post the winning hairdo on the now world famous whiteout blog. Speaking of haircuts, I took a 200 hundred dollar haircut at the bar last night welcoming Paavo and EEro back to town at Colin Adair's beenie and scarf party. Back to the contest, the sweetest haircut will win a copy of Wear It Well, aswell as a copy of The Big Blind, and some sweet Helly Hansen gear. You can email submissions to contact@whiteout-films.com. We'll get you motivated with a sweet shot of Eero and his awesome party hair!

Thought I would do a little educational blog today since I hung out with Marty all day. We were up for the opening of Blackcomb and boy oh boy, Marty is riding stronger than ever. Once he clicks into those bindings...he's gone. Most of the whiteout riders were up in Whistler shredding some of the best conditions we all have ever seen up there. Anthony was up there with the "legends of snowboarding" crew, you'll see who I am talking about on a later post. Anyways, today's blog is going to look at what pretty much everyday of filming in the backcountry starts out looking like.
-First up,you set a meeting time, and no matter where you meet up some things never change. Anthony is always the first one there, and 99% of the time is smoking a cig and drinking a coffee. Kale on the other hand is always the last one to show up, most likely due to his truck breaking down on his way up from Squamish or just straight up sleeping in. Last year during one shoot he even forgot his shred pants, and ended up launching some cliffs in some grey sweatpants. Awesome.
-Next, everyone pulls into a small unloading zone and parks however they see fit. As it fills up, parking gets sketchier and trucks get closer and closer together. As you can see, Mikey and EEro try to make sure everyone parks in an orderly fashion. Sometimes they are successful, and often they are not even close.
It should also be noted that every time we meet up to hit up the backcountry, there are a few more common facts besides Anthony being the first to show and Kale being the last.
Fact- Mikey and Eero buy all of the Cajun Beef Rolls from the Husky Station.
Fact- Even if Trev has been to the spot a few times before, he is convinced that it is his first time there.
Fact- Tadashi speaks less and less English each time we meet up.
Fact- JF still has those crazy chops on his face.
Fact- Paavo has an amazing Techno CD pumping in his truck, and Benji and Reno are probably dancing to it.
Fact- Kale has most likely packed a block of cheese for his lunch.
Fact- Jaakko will still not be pleased with us calling him Orlando Bloom.
Special thanks to Marty for these facts!

Whether it is on the hill, in the water, or dressed up like a bunch of Frenchmen on the dance floor at Garf's, the riders that film with Whiteout are always shredding it up. It's pretty cool that the crew of riders are all really good friends with one another, and not just a crew randomly put together that have to hang out. I swear I talk to all these guys on a daily basis just to make sure I don't put up anything too inappropriate on the blog. I have some pretty unclassy stuff of Mr Pelchat. Anyways, here are a couple of shredding shots from our enormous digital photography archive sent via satellite via the world wide web. The first one is EEro ripping it up at Trestles down in So Cal, and the second one is a sweet handplant by Benji (Bruce) at our Copper Mountain shoot back in May. The last photo is the all of the shredders(Renczy,Eero,Bruce,Reno B, Matt and J-man) chillidoggin' after the park Session down in Colorado. Thanks again to Copper for hookin' it up. Peace!
