This is to everyone trying to do what's right, and those who try to scam them.
(exp. Graphic Designers being paid $15 /hr)
Many entry level jobs start at $15 per hour. Working as an alcohol sample demonstrator in liquor stores you can make $15 per hour. Serving food and drinks with tips? That's definately more. I'm not saying anyone is more important than anyone else. It's just the investment of time must be rewarded in a way that is sustainable, no matter what your job is.
It's absolutely RIDICULOUS to think it's right to pay graphic designers $15 per hour when asking for these qualifications! My 2 year graphic design diploma tuition costs $25,000. My classmates and I spend 8 hours in class and then have hours of homework and mostly have to work as well (I had 3 jobs at once!). The computer programs we we work with are some of the most complex to master and evolve rapidly, requiring constant learning. There is a long list of attributes and skills one must possess to be a quality designer.
My dream is to live in a way which I feel is minimally harmful and which utilizes my natural artistic ability. I'll work hard and I'm not greedy. If that's seen by employers as wrong, then I see a society which is failing.
