Opening day was great.  Felt like an all-local event....all locals and me.

On Halloween night, Sun Peaks tragically lost a member of it's community.  Bryn Taylor died in a car crash on halloween night.  He was an avid snowboarder, a great person, and a valued member of the Sun Peaks community.  He will be missed.

As far as the rest of you, as of Oct 29th there is now snow on the ground near the burfield chair (the very bottom of the hill).  We have been getting a LOT of snow lately, it just melts during the day because it is too warm.

You mentioned that you were comming up in mid-december.  I live up here and the last few years the prime times to come were just before christmas and right after new years.  As far as runs go, it depends on if you are a park person or if you like riding in powder.  Sun Peaks is pretty much all about the tree riding here, almost any run you can duck into the trees and find deep pow.  Some of my favorites are Pink Flamingos, Bluff Trees, Challenger trees, chute trees, and the Toilet Bowl into Uncle Tom's. if it hasn't snowed in the past couple of days you can always head to mt. morrisey, it is a quick run to the chair (and although a little flat in some spots), it has its back to the sun so even on the iciest days you can find some nice powder.  The locals ar super cool and most wont mind showing you guys some sweet spots or take you out to the backcountry.  Hope you have fun out here.

it usally isnt bad but there are areas that every one rides through that get icey quick so if i was you i would just explore the mountain and go threw random areas and u will find some excellent powder
