Oh yeah and if you're into pipe, don't hold you're breath. The mountain provides its own. the locals dug one 2 years ago but it iced-up all bulletproof then 'the laziest avalanche ever' took it away like an tiny icicle below a giant runny nose

Average to good nightlife, Crowded weekends, gotta be on the road up by 7.30am if you don't want to spend 2hrs in a traffic jam, then another hr in lift queues.
Can get v.windy. Sunburn in <30mins. Cheap season pass gets you both feilds on the mountain for $400 NZ (<$300US) if you buy before April. Day passes are 65 a day I think, haven't had to buy one for five or ten years.

Season runs July - November 15th
Best time to be there is midweek in SepOctNov

Best terrain in the southern hemi.

Sick park.

4.5hr drive from Auckland. Stay in Ohakune, 30mins from the feild (National park so can't stay up the hill) Not sure about campervans on the mtn road - Sorry, a 'winnebago' if you're from out that way. You'll often need chains so you'd be better off paying for the bus ride up when there's ice on the road. Chains req'd often means new snow so its worth getting to the top quicker in a bus. A 4wd should see you right. 1 days chain hire is $20 and its a pain in the ass so buy your own. The bus is $12rtn.
