My Journal

Well, unfortunately the website is still having some of it's hiccups and I can't upload pics to my galleries. Let's see if I can paste them in my post.

Session #1: Arapahoe Basin (10/18/08) The first session of the season! And now in Colorado! Awesome! Regularly I'll be doing this the first weekend of November in the Midwest and driving 2 and a half hours to Ski Brule for just one run of 20 sec. Here it was a nice 75 min drive and the run at A-Basin, was like 3 times the one at Marquette. I mean it was just one run but it will take me 4 to 6 minutes to get down! I was there for first chair and the first 3 runs I got in the singles lines without waiting at all. There probably was around 1,000 people in the first 3 hours but that number easily increased to 3,000 by 11:30. The second wave brought too many beginners falling in the middle of the run, the snow was tracked and with icy spots and the wait on the lift line was about 10 to 15 min... So I took my 8 runs and went home a happy rider after a good first session.

Here we go again, can't wait to be on the snow riding! This year I have a different situation since I'll be losing my riding partner for this season... Jessica is pregnant! Yes, we will have a little snowboarder by the beginning of next April so she will have to seat this one out.

We knew that we were going to start trying last summer so at the end of last season I bought a season pass for Norway Mountain. I'll be looking for riding buddies every weekend so let me know if you need a ride to Norway, I'll be gladly to pick you up in GB or on the way there.

SEE YOU ON THE HILL!!

Hell Yeah! the time has come to get back on the snow, set new goals to achieve and have fun everytime I can get on the snow with friends, havng a good ol time while snowboarding.
I'll be updating just this post since I was too lazy to keep a clear record of my Sessions last year. Hopefully I can meet my goal of 40 sessions! Leave comments on this blog if you rode with me during this season, it will help remember the good shredings and aventures of the winter! lol

Session #1 - Ski Brule, MI (Nov 4th) I was a little pissed that I missed the opening on 10/28 because I could've gone to ride for free. Nobody told me... Mother.... Good first time even with only log Jam open. Fun quarterpipe on the side of the run.

Session #2 - Ski Brule, MI (Nov 11th) Annie and Julie made the long drive from Flatlandia to ride with us @ Brule. We built our own jump and Annie slashed a couple of rails. Only bad thing is that I had a lot of speed going into a jump, lost control in the air and hurt my bad ankle... Sucks! Still hurts little bit, but I'm trying to get it stronger.

Session #3 - Tyrol Basin, WI (Dec 3rd) Ski Brule had the same 2 runs open so we decided to make the 3 hour drive to Tyrol. Met with Annie, Julie and Edgar. I was hitting the C-box all day without problems until I asked Jessica to take a video of me and wham! took a hard fall... Oh and Julie was mean and cutted me off from the back and we crashed. lol

Session # 4 - Norway Mountain, MI (Dec 9th) Norway had 5 runs opened. It was fun, the only thing is that there were no small features in the park so I didn't hit anything... We kept lapping Vali which had like 3 small jumps on the side of the run. At the end of the day, one of the chairs on the lift slid back and hit a ski patroller... Scary shi*t!

Session # 5 - Pine Mountain, MI (Dec 16th) I don't know why we've never gone to Pine since it's so close to Norway, but we loved it! They just had 2 runs open but the black diamond was very wide and super fun for carving! Got to practice my cross-under turns and ollies off the rollers. Hardly nobody on the hill so that was nice also. Can't wait for winter break so I can snowboard every day!

Session # 6 - Big Powderhorn Mountain, MI (Dec 22nd)

Session # 7 - Indianhead, MI  (Dec 23rd) *Powder Day*!!

Wow, what can I say. I like to take my time updating my blog. California was so sick! I never expected the mountains like the Sierra Nevada to be so f*ckin cool. There was no snow on Sacramento the morning we drove to Lake Tahoe and as soon as we hit 5,000 feet we could start to see more snow on the road and on the trees. And then more and more and more! We had to stop and buy chains in order to get there. They weren't really necessary; I just think that the highway patrol requests them to slow cars down. And then the guys who install them and take them off by the road blocks. Talk about a rip off! $30 bucks to install them and $20 TO TAKE THEM OFF. no THANKS... I’ll DO IT MYSELF...

The first DAY WAS NICE AND SUNNY. Dan (KAYBEEBANDITO) CALLED US ON OUR WAY TO Tahoe AND WE MET WITH HIM. He SHOWD US HIS NEW HOME MOUNTAIN AND TOOK US TO SOME GREAT VIEWS AND RUNS WERE THERE WAS STASHES OF FRESH POWDER. The TREE RUNS WERE AMAZING!

lake_tahoe2

Second DAY, WE STARTED A LITTLE LATE SINCE WE WERE SO TIRED FROM THE PAST DAYS. We STAYED MOSTLY ON THE Nevada SIDE AND AT THE END OF THE DAY WE DISCOVERED THE SMALL PARK BY THE California LODGE. Third DAY WE Stayed MOST OF THE DAY THERE AND WE BOOKED A CLASS AT THE END OF THE DAY FOR OUR LAST SESSION IN TAHOE.
Our INSTRUCTOR WAS THIS MATE FROM England, WALEY. Pretty COOL GUY. he HELPED US MASTERED OUR CROSS-UNDER TURNS AND SHOWED US THE ROPES ON THE HALF PIPE. He EVEN CONVINCED ME TO DO A BOARDSLIDE OFF THIS FUNBOX! So MUCH PROGRESSION!

We REALLY LIKED Lake Tahoe AND EXPECT TO GO BACK SOME DAY AND RIDE ANOTHER OF THE SEVERAL MOUNTAINS THAT THE AREA HAS TO OFFER.

Last day CALI WE WENT TO SAN FRANCISCO AND TOUR THE CITY. We saw pretty much everything.; Golden Gate, Alcatraz, Fisherman’s Wharf, etc.

I wish we could have mountains like California in the Midwest… You can snowboard in the morning and be back on the beach by unset to do some surfing! It’s an awesome state.

Wow, is amazing how busy can you get when you travel every wekend... I haven't been able to update my blog in a while.
So in a nutshell, the Searchmont Meet at Canada was a blast except for little things like Norbert breaking his arm and Carrie causing a mayor accident but jello shots, pole dancing, races down the mountain and random jokes though the weekend make that weekend one to remeber!

We flew into Cali on Saturday and drove from San José to Medford, Oregon. The view landscapes driving were amazing! Soo freakin cool, I want to move here! lol (I want to move everywhere!) If only I was millionaire to travel around the world without worrying about money...

Anyway, today we went to this national park called Crater Lake. It used to be a volcano but then collapsed and is now the deepest lake in the U.S. with 4,000 ft. of depth! What was amazing were the huge walls of snow along the highway. 30 ft tall!!! I regret that I didn't brought my snowboard to hike one of those mountains and take a golden run.

No problem, tomorrow we go to Lake Tahoe to ride Heavenly for 4 days straight. I have progression written in my mind and I'm going to kill it down there!

See ya!

Wow so back from México huh! It was a f*ckin blast! We did so many things. Scuba dive, learn to kite board, the wedding was a success, I got to see my dad, etc... But the highlight of the trip was going to the reopening of the club “The City” in Cancún Hotel Zone with my 2 favorite cousins and see Paul Van Dyk live. It was the shi t! Best concert of my life! 5 thousand people dancing to the trance sounds played by the best DJ in the world! I’m a huge PVD fan now!

Getting back to the States I just had two things in mind: Snowboarding and buy a Paul Van Dyk CD. Unfortunatelly we were so tires from the trip that we couldnt make it to Cascade mountain for the Midwest open... but when I got to Green Bay I went straight to Best Buy and bought Paul Van Dyke “Reflections”. Crush is the best song in the CD!

Since I didn’t go riding I wanted to watch a snowboarding video and what better pick than First Descent! The movie is awesome! Those lines in the Alasakan backcountry are gnarly dude, gnarly!

Flew in yesterday and came to Cozumel right away. 88F today! Soo nice, I thought that I was going to miss the snow, but today... not at all!

Did 2 Scuba dives today and had a f*ckin blast! So beautiful down there! We went down to 67 feet! Best depth for us! Can´t wait to do it again during the week!

My prayers for a snow day were finally answered! I woke up yesterday’s morning at 3:30 and couldn’t go back to sleep. I browsed the web until 5 am and found out that GBAPS had called school off! We drove in the middle of the blizzard to Norway Mountain and were two of the only 10 people at the mountain. It was so cool, every single run we took it was just us. Jessica and I were hitting this wooden bench and I was doing a kicker and a fun box. It was awesome! Green bay got 13.1 inches, the most ever for the month of february!

No let’s see tomorrow how it is up in Indianhead and Powderhorn with the –26 windchills! Brrrr!

So I left early on Saturday to Cascade. I wasn't able to meet 2 of teh members that I was going to at Crahcade but I mostly rode with Julie (daisy95gt) and Jake (jblaski) on the park.
I got there early and rode the black diamonds for 2 hours. They are pretty cool but the grooming sucked because they didn't do it evenly so I couldn't do big carves without bumping into that flaw line.
Riding the half pipe with Julie and Jake was pretty cool. We did it over and over again and in a way the pushed me to get out there and try something new. Those freakin kids have no respect for droping into it and will go whenever the f*ck the want! I feel for Jake who has to deal with taht on a daily basis.

On Sunday we ended up going to a little hill called Navarino Slopes which was ok cause I was doing a couple of medium kickers and I even went and did this little rails that they had set up! It felt good! I'm looking foward to do more everytime I ride. That is until I break something lol (hope not...)

Well, I went to Norway yesterday and just 30 miles of Green Bay you could see snow on the ground and on the highway. When we got there they had 3 inches of fresh powder. We were the first ones to carve some lines on the black diamonds. We had a blast! Then I switch boards and hit the medium park for the rest of the day. I’m starting to feel more comfortable on the air but I still need to get that ollie off the lip of the kicker,. Practice, practice!

Yesterday I bought 2 snowboard videos. DC Mountain Lab and Future Proof. Unfortunately I couldn't watch them because I went with Jessica to drop Pachino (her cat) at his new home. We are aways ou all the time so she decided that it was better for him to be with more company. This lady that se give him to has two cats and one dog and is a widow so she is always there. She was pretty sad though, she really loved the fur ball.
Anyway, can't wait to get back on my board this weekend and I think watching those videos will pump me up to be ready!

So I finally got the time and willingness to update my blog. We had a great time in Vail and after the 9 straight days of riding and also riding resorts like Beaver creek, Breckenridge and Keystone I reaffirm my plan of really moving out there sometime.

Thank you to everybody that made this trip possible, Julián and Laura specially for letting us hang out with them one more time and spend the holidays with their family. And to the members of the website that I got to meet like Tom (Riderspro) and Jeff (vailsbestinstructor). I’m really sorry that I didn’t get to meet you Lauren (punkmouse)!… I hope I will sometime.

So it’s back to the Midwest weekend warrior routine. I still like it because I know that there are good and rad people to ride with here also. And we have better beer! Lol

See you guys out there!

Erik

We met Tom (riderspro) at Breck on Tuesday, but I was the only one to ride with him since most them wanted to ride the several parks that they have and Jess changed her mind after she saw Tom guiding us to the double black diamonds area, lol.  I have to say that it was pretty sick! The run was super vertical and full of trees. Check out the pic.

Today we went to Beaver Creek and I got the best run of my vacation. The six inches of fresh powder were soo freakin cool and I was flying down the mountain underneath the chairlift while everyone watched me carved perfect turns... I still can't take the grin off my face!

Keystone is sick! You can definetly see the difference with Vail. I liked that I saw way more snowboarders and their Area 51 park was totally sick and with some features like I have never seen in the Midwest. I wish I could be as good to be ablle to ride most of it...

Today it was pretty cool. We spent most of the day at Blue Sky Basin with Julian and Laura. Afterwards we went and checked the superpark at Golden Peak, the halfpipe looked sick!

Coming back to the house, Julian and I worked on our little kicker in fron of the house and were able to get a good pic.

Tomorrow we'll go to Breckenrige and meet Riderspro. Lookin foward to ride with him.

I was supposed to write this blog last night but we were so tired from riding and we had to get ready for the Christmas Eve dinner.
We had the best day so far after meeting a member of the website, Jeff (vailsbestinstructor). He is an awesome guy, he was very kind and agreed to ride with us for 3 hours and give us a tour of the mountain (his office). He is a level  instructor and guide so imagine all the knowledge of terrain and snowboard techniques that he shared with us. We really appreciate him taking his time to ride the morning session. Thanks again Jeff! You rock!
So we went to the back bowls, Sun Up and China Bowl which is my favorite so far, then we went to Blue Sky Basin and went onto this trail called big rock park which was sick with a bunch of trees and a natural halfpipe. Afterwards we met the rest of my friends who loved the offroad trails so Jeff took us on this gnarly but extremely fun run called Hairbag Alley.

Christmas Eve dinner was very fun with a great dinner, opening gifts and playing drinking games. We even went outside to ride a minikicker that we built in fron of the house. We were so hangover this morning that we decided to stay in to recharge batteries and hit Keystone for a night session.

Gotta go! See ya!

So we made it through the 1,285 miles journey from Green Bay to Vail! Today was our first day of riding here at Vail and we had a blast. My friends who had already been had been here for 5 days showed us some of the terrain that they had been riding. We wen inti this backcountry run called Caddy´s Café. Is not even on the Vail´s map, but it´s like a natural halpipe, really freak in fun!

Right now is time to call it a day and get ready for tomorrow´s quest.

See ya!

It was nice to meet new people from the website, specially midwest people since we can get together more oftenly.
I started doing some ollies after Wazzy and Pushgirl showed me the right technique. Pushgirl convinced me to do a kicker that actually was pretty cool. I just need to get more speed and feel comfortable on the air. Daisys95 did her first funbox after 2 years and mine ever. It was cool! I liked learning more freestyle from them.
After spending sometime on the minipark, we went to the other side on the black runs. I even went to get my freeride board to try to get more speed and catch up with these guys who are soo fast. We were blazing down the black runs and I thought I could've gone faster but it was icy in some spots and I held myself back. Especially because I didn't want to get injured right before our big trip to Colorado like last spring when we went to Canada and the east coast.
I was talking to Jess afterwards about how when you ride with other people that are better than you feel a little intimidated but it depends on your attitude because you can also take advantage of these riders and push yourself more trying to mimic their skills.

My next blog will be next Friday from Vail, CO!!

Hello everybody! What a perfect way to start the snowboard season but with a new version of our beloved website! Nice!

Our first day at Brule, was pretty cool. It was weird but the first run I wiped out like 4 times cause I changed my stance width and angles, and was totally out of practice.
Second run it was like riding a bike, loved it! and it felt soo good to ride my new Rossi Premier. The Rome bindings are great. I actually ended up riding the cap straps in my toes, more comfortable.

Jess had some problems with her new board and bindings... she couldn't get used to it and that affected her riding. By lunch she was pissed off and switched to skis as usual. Don't blame her.

Overall it was pretty sick, looking foward for Thanksgiving Day were we'll probably get to ride with my bro-in-law and possibly some of the Illinois crew.

See ya!
