not necessarily under estimated, but these boards are little known. www.whitegoldsnowboards.com, i think there a company from around whistler, supposed to be amazing boards
It's Kevin Sansalone's company. Really expensive too.
Am I indecisive? Well, yes and no.

only person I've seen riding elan is agent-g.  After they got good wood reviews a few years ago, I really wanted an elan/artec 3.1...or any of their mid to entry level boards.  Looked everywhere but couldn't find one - even tried getting one shipped from europe, but no deal

someone a while back mentioned bataleon is made at the elan factory in austria anyhow - don't know if that's true, but I may have kinda gotten what I wanted after all

Well, I have owned the Artec 1.1 and the 4.1, and thought they were both great boards. I have turned my 4.1 into a strict pipe board and keep the edges clean on them with a 1 and 3.

Like I have said, Im very impressed with them. I have ridden alot of boards over 13 years, and the Elan's are my favorite. I recently busted out the Answer. I have been riding the Inverse all season, and became so stuck on that board, that I hadnt used the Answer all year. I had forgotten how much fun that board is. It's really the perfect mix of park/pipe and all mountain board. I can really take that board anywhere.

Elan boards are definitely underrated.  Elan Inverse in particular.

Hi Agent-G,

I saw you have the Elan Inverse.  Which year do you have?  I used to own a 07 Elan Inverse 159 for mostly freeriding.  So regret selling that board away.  I'm thinking of getting a short board for just playing around and ride off natural kickers.  I saw this year's Elan Inverse comes with Carbon 360 (seems to make the board stiffer than previous years).  Will a 151cm version be good for what I'm doing?

Thanks

I have the '09 Inverse. The board has been my favorite board. It is alot of fun. I was worried that the carbon was going to make the board too stiff, But it is actually still really flexable. There is a noticable difference from previous years, but it makes the baord handle well through the chop and hard pack. It also makes landing off large jumps quite possible.

I dont know how much you weigh or what your height is, but I am riding mine in a 155 cm and I am 5'10" 145 lbs. I wouldnt go any smaller myself, but I have never been one for short boards. I am sure for my weight I probably could get a smaller board, But this size is perfect for me.

The O-Sin (Original Sin) 3800 is my favorite underrated board, It was one of the first tapered boards made but I think it was ahead of it's time and never became popular. About 3mm of taper and a 9m radius made this the perfect do everything board, the wider nose let the tail sink in powder, the stiff nose let you carve well on groomers, and the small radius made a quick turning board in the trees. They were last made in 2003 under the Dynastar label at the Elan factory. I don't remember what the retail price was when they were new (around $400) but I paid less than $200 for 2 (163 and 169), making them some of the cheapest boards I bought. If you don't know what one looks like look at the '09 Fish, it's very similar.
The Elan factory isn't making many boards anymore, Arbor, Rome, Forum, Flow, F2, Stepchild, and few others mave moved thier manufacturing to a factory in Austria (GST), If you look at the construction of the boards you can tell they all came from the same place (StrucTurn? bases arer a dead give away).

My old Dynastar Karma fucking ROCKS. Still. And that's after a full season of riding my new Never Summer Titan. O'Sin got a rap for being cheap crap, deserved or not. I don't know, I never rode one. My first "real" board was the Dynastar, a 2005 model, supposedly designed by members of their Olympic team (remember, Dynastar was trying to get legit in snowboarding in those years, and sponsored the Olympic snowboard team). The Karma is everything you said -- the taper, it's really stiff, the small sidecut -- it's wicked fast, insane turning ability and transitioning, and the "Auto Drive" thing they were putting on their high-end boards created one of the smoothes rides you'll ever find. My NS Titan, otoh, already looks as old and beat as my Karma. The Karma was a tough-as-nails board that performed like a dream. Then Quicksilver bought 'em, put the whole line out of business and orphaned me the very year I bought my board (which went for about $600 back in 05, although I got it as a close-out when my snowboard shop heard the company was getting sold -- I got it for $275).

besides that... i like the second tier guys... arbor, prior, ns, gnu, stepchild... but thats just because i don't see em everywhere...

oh, almost forgot.. i'd really like to try out some option stuff... just keeping it in canada.

Crispy Whips is an underrated company from the East. I don't have one but I've heard that they're great jibbing boards but they don't last very long.

The Arbor Wasteland is one incredible piece of shred. Kind of pricey, but I never read any reviews, despite how friggin' sweet it rides.

most underrated board would be:

GNU TEMPLE CUMMINS BILLYGOAT!

this board has been killing it for a good 10 years and only now are people finding out what ive known for many many years..the billygoat kills it..best freeride board i have ever owned.. have both the magna/banana and the last year billygoat before they went to bananamagna..also have owned 3 others temple boards from years past and they all kill it. have tried tons of others here in colorado and on the east coast and i just cant say enough about how good they are.

The arbor westmark is a friggin sweet board that not nearly enough people know about.  I love it's midwide shape, and perfect flex that lets me ride it everywhere...plus it looked bad ass this past year with the rogue status graphic on it.

After reading your review of the NS Titan and the comparison to the Dynastar, I really wanted to try one.  Why does everything have to be fancy cambers and space materials now days......I just want a old school freeride stick.

+1.  I almost bought a Transit XL for my last board.  I've seen only two others on the hill and they(transits) are very easily spotted.  And their bindings are friggin awesome.

I'd also have to agree about some of the European companies:  Nidecker, Elan,.... and go look at Volkl's website, the Squad prime looks like a sick pipe board.

My mountain uses head boards as rentals.. and they aren't too high of quality either.. so much so that they made a rainbow rail out of some old ones xD

A board that i can think of is the Nitro T2. Mainly because the T2's big brother the T1 gets all the media hype. But i personally like the T2.

yeah, i never knew much about the nitros.. think i got scared when i first started looking into some boards and found nitro being carried by sport chek and the like... made me associate them with lower quality.  too bad i started out with that bias.. probably missed out on some nice boards...

as for the rentals.. meh, hard to judge rentals as a real board... if that was the case, burton only makes planks. i'm not a huge burton fan, but it would be just an outright lie to say they don't make a nice board... sure, the ones you rent suck balls...
