gas gets paid by my dealership... i loved when it was expensive.. it felt like i got paid more.  so that doesn't change.  my house bills for utilities is 50 a month... paying 30 for a cleaner fuel won't change how i feel.  even if its a free source (which it would never be), i still wouldn't feel the difference in my wallet.

I know how much the majority here hates when i post these, but it appears that logic and reason are finally out-weighing the financial benefits of propagating fear over false gloabla warming.  Here's a link for you to chew on:

Have fun discussing....I will check back to view the carnage and flaming that ensues :)  There is always a few nuggets of information I can grab from the sheeple believing humans created climate change.

-B

The best part about this article is what many people have been complaining about for years....scientists being threatened with losing funding if they didn't say global warming was real.  You can almost hear the anger in some of those scientists when they say something to the effect 'now that my funding is cut off I can tell you the truth'.

Al Gore and his other gov't buddies basically bought their global warming argument....nevermind the nasa temperature data they were using as a basis was proven wrong.

Have glaciers receded before?  Yes
Have ocean levels been higher than they are presently?  Yes
Have species died off and become extinct before?  ummm  YES
Are we still finding NEW species where we thought there would be none?  oh yeah!  it's called evolution, people!

Scientists have said that the spin of earths core is slowing.  What does that mean?  They don't know.  What affect will that have on the earth?  They 'think' it will affect earths magnetic field, but not really sure what actual affect it will have on us.  I think that a large portion of the interior of the earth undergoing a change could be pretty significant on the earth as a whole.  Do the global warming models take that into consideration?  They can't because noone really knows the effects.

But let's all take it on faith that the global warming scientists (who are still being bought by various govt's) can tell us how it's our fault and we need to change x, y and z to reverse it.

Pain heals, chicks dig scars, glory lasts forever
If someone asks you if you're a god, you say YES!!!

I'm guessing the earths core slowing down might have something to do with the earths magnetic field finally switching again.  Perhaps we can witness it in our life time!  Oh no all the members of the AGW church might band together to try and stop this natural phenomenon cause they can't deal with the change of having to read a compass differently!  We are currently in the longest run of the same magnetic field, hence why we call this one the "Normal magnetic Polarity", but who knows what the "normal" way it all started is.  http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2003/29dec_magneticfield.htm

I have the same effect on global warming as I do on the lowering of the ocean level when I come out it from surfing.  Technically it is true that the little water droplets clinging to me that I take out lowers the sea level.  Just good luck fucking measuring that!

Hope:
everything will be okay in the end.

Agreed....genius.  That would stop over-population, deforestation, pollution, and everything all at once!  I probably would be one of the degenerates tossed to the side due to asthma, near-sightedness, and having outward-rotating knees.  But at least the human race and the world would be better off!

As for the posts about the core slowing it's spin, that very well may cause a HUGE fucking problem, and one that deserves more funding than "AGW".  If the polarity switches, imagine all the satellites impacted, GPS navigation for ships and planes, cellular communications, etc.....we'd be back in the dark-ages for a fair bit of time!  When the field does switch, it is possible for massive earthquakes and volcanic eruptions to occur as well, and I am sure we can guess what the results of that would be.  Incidentally, some of theorized that the next switch will occur on 12/21/2012 (the end of the Mayan calaendar) and supposedly the end of the world (also my birthday and the Winter Solstice).  I don't put too much stock in the whole end of the world thing, but it may be possible for the magnetic fiedl to switch then.

Santa can move to the South Pole now....much colder there.  Or maybe to the Alaskan glaciers that grew last year?

You can debate till you're blue in the face about global warming being man made or not...but you can't deny it's happening.

it's bad for so many reason...the superficial: less snow for me to ride on. The real: More forest fires, less fresh water, more drought, more coastal flooding, more crop failures, etc.

I don't think anyone is denying that it is happening on here.  Hell even those that say that man is doing it say that man is only helping speed it up.

I never will understand that, the whole thing about reducing "carbon footprints" is to slow down global warming.  All this energy to slow down something that is going to happen naturally anyways.  Typical attitude of people afraid of change with out thinking of the people of the future.  At some point with or without mans help the earths temperature is going to rise.  Shouldn't all this time, effort and resources be used to craft a plan and stock pile resources for those that will one day have to live through harder times that we cannot even imagine?  Nope lets just slow it down that way we don't have to think about those people of the future at all, just pass it on to someone else to worry about.

Hope:
everything will be okay in the end.

The earth's climate is definatly warming up (despite the foot of snowfall in Las Vegas haha) but we arn't playing as big of a role in it as everyone thinks. seriously, has the earth's climate not changed before? Ice age is a great example, there were no cars then. The vikings settled green land which means it was warmer then than now, did the Vikings use motorized boats? i certainly don't think so. Mars is also warming up, there are no humans there to affect the climate. The theory of global warming is being repeated so often that people are starting to think of it as a fact... no one knows exactly why the earth is warming up, although some people think they do cough al gore cough... and seriously how the hell did al gore win a nobel prize for a theory? it isn't even proven.

No its to make people like me feel better about the 10+ flights they take a year, reducing footprints on a personal level overall doesn't do much, what the world needs to slow down global warming is for companies to start reducing there footprints, but to be totally honest id rather the money spent on global warming go towards clean ups in places like Bhopal then to some organization that plants trees, I think overall cleaning up places like that would have a bigger effect.
But then again im a stoner with a carbon footprint the size of a snail, so I guess I suck.

yes

I understand what you are trying to say, and its the blanket a lot of us like to cling to.  That the Earth has gone through cycles before, and this is one of them.  I would think so too, except that there is no frikkin way in hell that we can pump up billions of tons of CO2 that has been out of the natural cycle for millions of years, and expect it to have ZERO EFFECT, especially when we know (yes, its a fact) that its greenhouse gases like CO2 which insulate the Earth and trap heat.

Earth works in balances, and due to natural change, it is constantly adjusting itself.  There are many, many things we don't know about. Take for example why this warm period since the last ice age has lasted unusually long.  Some say the Earth may have developed complex enough biologies that have stabilized the temperatures and hat not.  Personally, i have no clue.

But we are upsetting the balance (on a geological time scale, VERY QUICKLY), like a volcanic eruption. We are changing the composotion of the atmosphere, adding more insulating gases, like CO2 and methane. Science tells us that more insulating gases equals more warming.  Of course, its way more complex than that, but that is the jist.

So again, while people who dismiss AGW (human-caused global warming) as a hoax but admit that the world is warming, they have to explain why its warming, AND why the insulalting gases we are adding to the atmosphere are not having the warming effect that would be expected. AGW explains both of these, and until someone can show me an article that explains all this better than AGW, i will continue to side with the IPCC.

The theory of global warming is being repeated so often that people are starting to think of it as a fact... no one knows exactly why the earth is warming up, although some people think they do cough al gore cough... and seriously how the hell did al gore win a nobel prize for a theory? it isn't even proven.

But its more plausible than saying we all our indusrty and pollution do have zero effect on the Earth.  Remembe, it was only 20 years ago we had to go through the same bullshit with CFCs and the ozone layer, people (industy mostly, and the proaganda they paid for) crying that humans were innocent because they didn't want to give up their fucking hairspray bottles.

Most all scientists agree that global warming is real (90%) and that it's caused by human actions (82%).

Of the Climate Scientists interviewed...97% believed in human caused global warming.

You folks can debate all you'd like on if it's happening and why...but I'll go with the very trained professionals. Like the saying goes...you can't beat a man at his job.

From my quoted article:

"...recent U.S. survey based on the opinions of 3,146 scientists."

"The scientists approached were listed in the 2007 edition of the American Geological Institute's Directory of Geoscience Departments."

and

"Petroleum geologists and meteorologists were among the biggest doubters, with only 47 percent and 64 percent, respectively, believing in human involvement."

Sounds like this report just choose scientists that were in the A.G.I.'s directory of Geoscience Departments....including oil company shills. I can't speak to the other study.

Has anyone ever taken into account the fact that the world goes through cycles?  Remember how we had Ice Ages?  Followed by a warming?  Then we go into a cooling again?  Granted pumping all that crap into the atmosphere can't be helping the cycle, but this may not be all our doing.  And this may be a stretch an a deviance from most logic.. but what about the fossils of fish on the sides of mountains?  Could it be that at one time we had not polar regions, just a lot of water?  I like water.  Let's give it a shot!

But seriously, my response to this thread, find non-government or non-government funded scientists (more than one group of them, different groups to eliminate the variables) to conduct their own tests. Then instead of telling the media because it will end up miles from the truth, post the findings on an independent website, or newspaper (if there is such a thing as an independent, impartial newspaper). That my friends, is the only way you will get an accurate reading.

Because the crap factory which is the media wants everyone to be scared about it, and i believe the government can get something out of everyone being scared. Yes, I am a cynic.

just because someone else has brought this back to the top, i'll put this in here.... the latest national geographic has a whole magazine devoted to energy saving and such...

since i'm a car guy, i always try to see what is talked about regarding my field... turns out on this graph that they have regarding "carbon cuts that cost money" (as opposed to the other chart, "carbon cuts that save money), car hybridization was listed as the highest cost being almost 100$ per tonne of Co2 reduced.

just wanted to mention it... it kind of goes along with what everyone says about the media being peoples only sources of info.. i get so many people coming in asking about hybrids cars pretending they are trying to 'go green'... realistically, they are not a smart green decision and the only benefit that people will see is a saving of about 500 bucks a year on fuel... "ohhh!  please, let me pay 4500 more on a car so i can save 500 a year on fuel and only keep the car 4 years! i'm such a hippie! i deserve a fricken medal!"

i've also heard that hybrids are also not that great because they don't factor in the energy it takes to make one, which is quite a bit more than an average car.

The fuel savings though are dependant on the price of oil, which is set to go up in the future, so while it currently may not be that economical, in the next year or two it may be.

Best bet though is to use public transportation and bicycle.

Oh, anyone see they flick "My Own Two Feet" where a bunch of pros film all their non-mechanized trips into the BC?  Some crazy sick footage.

yeah, the manufacturing of cars has way more energy and waste than the actual use of the end product... now, getting a fuel efficiant car is still a good choice, but i would hope no one would need to be told that.  and as you say, public transport and two feet and a heatbeat are still the 'greenest'...

i'll take a look at that video.  should be an interesting one.
