Haha Ult... interesting perspective.  I've never viewed it that way, and always have tried to use vocabulary favoring snowboarding (especially given that JH is so much a skier mountain and skier friendly)... mountain resort, riders right/left, ride break, etc. vs the ski equiv, although I have slipped from time to time given how prominent the "ski" syntax is in the "ski" industry, oops I mean resort industry!

At the end of the day though I could really care less, and I love just going out with people who are stoked on mountains and snow.  My favorite is to be completely agnostic and call it shredding, some choose two shred sticks, and others just one.  The only other type of person on the mountain is a douche bag, which could be on either one or two shred sticks, you just don't know until you meet them!

Funny, I remember back in the day when the resorts called it "snowboard skiing".

Paolo's hockey fan cred is now under suspect for not catching that!!

oh you are right!  however in my defence.... with regard to such things, i tend to be the one doing the boarding as opposed to defining and determining it to be naughty!  in any event, we play old school hockey here!

...its the caution and awareness of what is around you which really counts now.

You get off this lift on a big mpund,  I always thought you wait unitl you're off the steep part,(about 30' from the chair) then turn.  My new skiing friend turned about 6' away from the chair.  I was still congratulating myself for not falling off the chair, hadn't even thought of making the turn yet....

And so while I'm on a roll, you're a bitch for starting a thread like this unless it was clearly a joke, which is not real apparent if it is or not.

And if you need 30 feet to make a fucking turn, maybe you should stay on the bunny hill a while longer, or at least warn the other people that you will not be going left or right, you will be going straight.

Sorry RP, for the lack of apparency in the original post.  I have about 20 years of intermittent skiing in, have always waited for the flats to make the turn, especailly when leaving the lift with others and extra especially when crossing the path of the adjacent lifter.  I have come to at least expect them to have a look and see where they're going before they dart across in front of someone else.
Wasn't clearly a joke, as I didn't really expect to be cut off before I even had thoughts of making the turn.  If she'd been a snotbag on the lift and didn't talk nice I might have expected the sudden cutoff, but we were bonding, man and I thought maybe we might be making beautiful music together later in the evening, but my hopes were dashed by her rude skiing manners.

Ok Ok as a skier and beginner boarder (rider, shredder, snowboarder, etc....) maybe I'd better just stick to skiing, I know what to say I'm doing that way, well at least most times.
But really I give up trying to talk like the younger generation, if they don't like my adjectives, well then that's not my problem!
Now as a skiier I've been cut off after dismounting the chair by skiers and by boarders....so lets see should I be down on skiers and snowboarders, skiers cut off skiers and riders(well they are both riders when they are on the chair) ok then boarders, boarders cut off boarders and skiers....so instead of getting upset with each other, then lets all have fun out there sking, riding, boarding, shredding, snowboarding, carving turns, jibbing, ripping and what ever else you call it!

And pr perhaps your new lady friend was over anxious to get close to you, and ended up as embarrassed as you were PO'ed

Skiier downhill has the right away.  It was in no way her fault that you hit her.  That's like me hitting someone with my car and then saying well if she would have jumped out of the way I wouldn't have hit her.
Hope:

I have no idea what that means and that's the best I could come up with for a translation.

The clueless skiers that go in front of me off the lift means I have to get very good at maneuvering on one foot.

My belief is that there is nothing I can do about the clueless skier, so I've practiced riding on one foot and doing quick turns so I get good at avoiding clueless skiers (and inept snowboarders).  Almost all incidents are avoidable with practice but yeah, it's pretty tough to turn on a snowboard with one foot until you master it.  It's a skill well worth mastering.

Another thing I'll do is to push off the chair first and try to take off fast before the skiers get a chance.  This annoys some skiers due to the chair being pushed back as I push off so I try to avoid doing this.

In short, try to get very good at riding and turning on one foot.

Wow! someone is menopausal!!!

So, I`m guessing you are one of those rude, ignorant people who make left turns from the right lane when driving too???

No one with a  brain, makes a hard turn in front of the path of the other riders 6 feet from the chair unless they are just a total dip shit. Yeah, 30 feet may be a bit much (depending on the runout) but regardless of this, there is still no excuse for turning in front of and riding over the top of someone`s board or skis. I have situations all the time where I need to go right but I am on the left side of the chair. What I do is I wait untill the other people go, then cut over behind them. It is something called common courtesey; something you appearently feel you are too good to practice.

When I was a skier, the only thing I hit were either trees or race course barriers. Just last week at a meet we had at jay Vt. I crashed full speed into a skier...full speed by both of us. She couldnt move for she froze when she saw me.

Damn, Carmen you are going a little too heavy on the "wake and bake" sessions before skiing or riding!

I just use the foot in the binding for balance and front kick anyone who gets in my way with my back foot.

Sometimes you fall down, but if you brace yourself and lean forward, you can hold your ground!
