If you choose to move to SLC, do yourself a favor and either live in Park City, or as far East in SLC as you can afford.  The closer you are to the mountains, the cooler the people.  My girlfriend and I moved out here this winter to snowboard and unfortunately we can only afford to live in Murray.  Been here 4 months and have not made 1 single friend.  Sure we meet people here and there, but they're either 60 years old or Mormon (so it's not like you can envite them over to have a beer).  We're moving to Denver after the season because we already have some friends out there and we're sick of sitting around by ourselves all the time.

How nice Shay! haha.... honestly I just get the impression that the people in CO will be a lot cooler than in Utah.  Any suggestions on what areas in Denver we should look at?  We've been looking at apartments online and we're trying to get an idea of the good areas and bad areas.

Killclimbz knows Denver so he can help you out.  I only pass through on my way to the airport since i live in Steamboat.  But if you want to live outside of Denver, Silverthorne and Lake Dillon are sweet places and damn close to all the mountains.

Cool, thanks... I'll get in touch with him.  I'd like to live outside of Denver, but my girlfriend will most likely have a job in the city so we'll have to stay somewhat close.

Give me a shout when you get all set up in Reno man.  Don't forget to bring a bag of the 8 O Clock Bean Coffee and some hiking stuff, GPS, Peips, and a good supply of HELLYEAHILIVEINRENONOW.

I would give you a shout when I get to Reno, but I decided on Seattle. Kind of a mix of a bunch of differant factors, but it seems to be the best bet for now.  I leave the first week of March as long as everything goes somewhat as expected. I already have more then one job lined up. Now to figure out all the logistics, like where I am gonna live, and how the heck I am going to get all my stuff out there.

Like I said, it's probably only going to be for about five years, then who knows what. I still own my house here in Michigan, and the real estate market here is crap right now with Ford doing all the layoffs and my house being in the heart of Ford country.

If your going to Telus, I can bring some 8 O'clock out, and you can stop by on your way up.

Oh Shay, I have plenty of questions... mainly, where do I NOT want to live? I'm kinda cheap, so I don't want to spend alot of money on rent, and I have two dogs. I don't need a high class neighbourhood, but I don't want to live in a building full of crack heads.  I've been searching for apartments on a few websites, but so far I haven't found much.

I'll hit up the local guys when I am 100% sure I am going. Right now I am in the 90% range somewhere.

What area of Seattle will you be working in?  Like the street if you don't know the location.

Places I wouldn't live near Seattle:  Skyway, Rainer Valley, White center.  Those are the first ones i can think of.

Good places in the city to live with dogs:  Wallingford, Capital Hill, Queen Anne, Fremont, Greenlake, Greenwood, UDistrict, Wedgewood...there's a bunch more.

Here's a good website on the locations in seattle

Depends what you think if high for rent and all.

I'll be working in all of Seattle, and then some more then likely. Usually my job location lasts form one day, to a few months.  So, something more centrally located is more ideal, but I am used to long commutes anyways, so it's not real important. Detroit and Seattle are simular in traffic congestion, although Seattle may be a bit worse, since it's more of a linear setup then the sprawl here....

High for rent for me would be anything over 1,000$. I am probably looking more in the 7-900$ range. I think I seen a couple in Greenlake and Capitol Hill.

Thanks for the link.

Greenlake is super nice and a great place to meet people and have dogs...the lake is awesome in the summer and it's common for everyone to walk their dogs there.  Good atmosphere as well.  I prefer Greenlake to Capital Hill.  Capital Hill has it's good sides and bad sides, younger crowd than greenlake but more crazy.

Good luck with the move Ale! :)

and Hukdnub - I live in downtown denver, which I like a lot - I live in the Capitol Hill Neighborhood, which is nice - only a few crack dealers, and it's cheap, and funky... not all yuppified.  Plus, I'm just a few blocks from highway 6, so it's a quick drive up to the mountains.  Overall, I'd say you want to look someplace close to HWY 6 or I-70, and in downtown or west of there - so you can just hop on the highway and get stuck in traffic headed up to the mountains.

Quick highway access is nice.

Capitol Hill is definitely a cool area.  Very Urban for Denver.

Highlands, Regis area, are nice too.  Watch out for areas in West Denver though.  Some are still dealing with a lot of gang activity.

Other areas.  Lakewood puts you closer to the Mountains.  Arvada is not bad.  Golden puts you right at the foot of the Mountains.

Southeast Denver is nice, my area, but it does make for a bit more of a drive to the hill.

Where is your girl going to be working?  You are far better off finding a place in a nice area closer to the job than driving across town.  It shouldn't be too hard to recomend an area that is close to her work and allows for the quickest escape to the resort.

In that case, I'll be thinking of you quite a bit!!

I just found out that my work's shop is waaaay up north in Seattle... Like Aurora and 97th.  Doesn't mater much though. I'll probably only see the place a half dozen times a year if I'm lucky. I find out my job location later today.

haha yes you will.  I'll be back there in late april/early may...so we'll have to hook up.

Dang that's a far commute for you.  If you need a place that's closer, i used to live in the Wedgewood Apartments...pretty cheap and only a 5 minute drive to I-5 and you can cut over to Aurora by passing through Greenlake.  I found it pretty good area for living and still commuting to and from in.

Cool.  Maybe we can have dinner and actually EAT AT THE SAME TIME.. third times a charm. And then, it will be dinner in three differant states with my favoritist snowboard.com person.

I did the drive this morn and it wasn't all that bad. I thought traffic would be worse after all the horror stories I have heard. It's pretty comparable to Detroit. Tommorow I have to work on mainstreet in Bellevue.

Thanks, I'll have to check on the wedgewood.

haha we haven't ate at the same time?  I'm sorry i was a little drunk in Vegas, haha.  Ooh and i'm your favorite!!!  yeah!!!  Even after you've met me...holy shit!

You'll get used to the traffic there...and you'll figure out good times and good lanes...versus the bad ones, haha.

Yeah Wedgewood apartments or something...it's on apartments.com.  Decent place, walking distance to safeway and some good food nearby.  Plus you would live right down the road from my best friend...the ultimate cougar.  I think she gets married this weekend though.

hmmmm, I don't think we have... We almost did in Vegas, but I started before you got there. And I did get to watch you guys eat desert in steamboat. You could probably count teh superbowl party, but That wasn't really dinner, just assorted cooked mammal fleshes.

An ultimate cougar getting married? I guess I am too late. Where are teh cougar dens in Seattle? I want to go out and have fun tonight.. er, I mean, avoid them kinda places. Although I am too old to really be bait, I can kinda pull it off. I think it kinda upsets them though when they find out I am not young enough to be their son.

Hmm okay...i'll take your word for it.

Yeah she's getting married.  Cougar dens in seattle, yeah i didn't really look for those.  But you'll meet a lot of girls on Greenlake and University Village since those are closest to UW but still suited to the older crowd.  Seeing as when i lived in Seattle i was under 21...i only went to the bars where my friends worked.

Oh yeah ride both stevens and crystal before deciding where to get your pass...just to give you a better idea.  Crystal reminds me of Steamboat in some ways...a lot of skiers but great tree runs and out of bounds terrain.  Huge mountain...but has that old skier mentality which i never liked.  Stevens is more park and freeriding, still some great runs and you'd have slimp and snowpunk there...who are amazing riders.

I've already been to Crystal about a half dozen times, and Baker twice a few years ago. I've seen Steven's while driving pass, which is enough for some people to make a judgement about a hills worth ;) It looked pretty sweet to me.

The more I think about it, the more I am leaning towards just getting the steve's pass. Mainly because I can use it the rest of this year. I can't see me not liking it. And it is still a couple hundred bucks cheaper then crystals pass...plus, boyne usa has gotten enough of my money.

OK, I am going out now to the issaqua brewery.
