Actually, i do feel Pearl Jam are political. I just don`t dig their music.

And Nirvana does not inspire me to work for a better world. It inprires me to kill myself.

K`naan is rad, i just haven`t listened to him enough to put him out there.

And the Sex Pistols were a farce. They didn`t live up to much of what they sang about.

Oh, and Vancouver`s own Sweatshop Union are pretty good too.  As are the Canadian Subhumans.

Why does Nirvana inspire you to kill yourself?

Yeap, the sex pistols were a huge farce, the great rock n roll swindle, if you will...

Personally I think that Black Sabbath have some of the most powerful peace orientated political songs out there

Nirvana is the blues for white kids.

But please, more political music!

Allow me to answer this more accurately...because I'd rather be dead than have to listen to their crap anymore!
Would you like to buy a vowel?
Nope. I'm heading over to colonies.com!

K'Naan is dope. I haven't heard the whole album, but his live performance is off the hook. and the video is amazing.

I dont know if I'd call K'naan political. He's good, and talks about how fucked up somalia is, but its more just talking about his life than anything overtly political. I gotta add Billy Bragg to this list, definitely been getting his politics out there for a long time.

Black Sabbath, without a doubt.

Yeah, a lot of the bands mentioned here are more societal than political, but the two are closely linked.

Rents- your politics and pop music professor had a sex pistols poster in his office? Trying to resist jumping to conclusions here... but hes losing credibility with me. meh

haha i know i know... and he was the first to mention that they were pretty much just a boy band of punk... and what does I want to be an anarchy mean anyways?  But you have to admit they changed punk and were very influential in UK punk... and im sure growing up in the UK at that time they would have made a big impact on you...

Well politics and The Mullet... (if you haven't heard his mullet spoken word piece you haven't heard Sage Francis)
Kanye West is big into the politics these days ("George Bush don't like black people" LOL).

I dont listen to a whole ton of political music, but i do loves me some marley, talib, common, mos def and Rage.

Nofx was never really political band. When they did talk about politics usually it was very light hearted and pretty funny. Such as "how did the cat, get so fat?"

The Doors - "Unknown Soldier" was really out there. They made a small video on it which got banned from the airwaves.

I'm SO TIRED of hearing that Anti-Flag is this huge anarcho-punk band that is all about politics. Look at the guys, they're at the highest form of capitalism right now, selling records on a major label, mass producing tee-shirts and sweatshirts for their stupid scenester fans. You might as well go listed to Green Day and Fall Out Boy and say it's anarcho and political.

i hear you, but i personally, i`m glad that there are accessible bands like Anti-flag.  For me, getting into politics and slightly-off the wall ideas has been a slow proccess. i don`t know many people that listen to Britney Spears and all of the sudden have a change of heart and start listening to Oi Polloi.  For me it was likeSalt `n Pepa-to-KRS-One-to-pennywise-to-NOFX-to-Propagandhi-to-Crass.
Sure, bands like Anti-Flag, Rage Against the Machine, Le Tigre, and Chumbawamba may have sold out their DIY roots to sell more records, but i sure am glad that they are there to give some kind of alternative to the kids that only listen to MTV or shop at the local mall record store.

having said that, i don`t listen to much Anti-Flag, but i liked Justin sane`s solo album.

Getting back to more political music, i wanna hear some newer Steve Earl, and nina Simone had some pretty rad songs about segragation and women.
