I've personally never used technine or rome products so I cant comment, although I have pretty much heard nothing but good things about them. Just from experience I would suggest Ride, just because they are reasonable priced and are of great quality.

My biggest complaint with Technine, and this is really from second hand experience, is that it doesn't seem to be easy to adjust the forward lean on the backs.  My buddy had the MFM sig bindings and we had a hell of a time trying to figure out how to adjust them.  Although if you're just starting, that won't be an issue, but if you expect to hang onto your bindings for a long time, you might want to consider that.

Wow. this should be a pretty interesting show!  Helly Hansen is setting up an indoor rail jam in Northlands. Apparently Snow Valley is trucking in 20 truckloads of snow to cover a scaffold type run-in (like what they had last year outside) which is 18 feet high and 60 feet long. Most of the skate shops are submitting teams of 4 riders. Here is the link to the event Helly Hansen Jib Jam

on a cheap note coming for the sims guy. if you just need some solid bindings..i don't even know if they make them anymore but the Sims X3 binding is about 85$-90$..although i've seen em for 50$ and they are pretty solid for being so cheap. They have aluminum ratchets and an aluminum chassis, and the highbacks are niiice. although the aluminum ratchets do seem to completely destruct the straps in about 2 seasons. hence why i'm thinking about putting technine straps on the x3 base and highback. if i was a millionaire though, i'd be rockin' drake bindings so quick it would hurt.

Of course it is a given, and Iam not sure how much luck you have but see if you can find some of last years bindings, they are probably dirt cheap by now, and can allow you to buy a pair you might not otherwise buy. Atleast I know that is how I got my podiums.

Hey, my backyard is white!

I dropped off my gear at the Ski & Snowboard show today and took a quick peek at some of the other gear. The have cheap helmets therem and they have a pretty antique board there as well. And someone is actually attempting to sell one of those cheap plastic toy snowboards as well, weird. Guess I'll be there alone this weekend as the wife is working weird shifts this weekend; also major party happening on saturday night so hopefully things won't be too crazy on Sunday (I'm still going both days).

Good luck with selling your gear Danno.
I migfht look at some used stuff but I doubt I'll buy. I prefer new.

6 in the morning and we got 1/2 inch of the white stuff. I think its about 12 cm for you new school kids.
I was in grade 10 when metric hit so I'm not fully converted.

Our paths might cross today and I wouldnt even know it cuz I dont know any of you yet.
Hope to tho one day.

Later.

Thanks! There was some new gear there (even some of the items I brought still have the tags on them) so it should be an interesting sale.

Isn't this just typical Edmonton weather? Yesterday the grass was still green and leaves still falling off the trees and now this morning it looks like Christmas. This is a few days earlier than I expected but I will take it with open arms and a smile!

I'm really going to be hitting the resort booths hard to see what they are offering this year, like any changes to the season etc. Make sure you fill out as much of the ballot boxes as possible but avoid some of the ones that look like obvious vacation scams (cause EVERYONE is a winner to these people). I won an awesome trip to Banff two seasons ago to a place called Hidden Ridge. Looking out my patio door was a deep ravine drop about 50 feet away and a nice view of Mnt. Norquay. Good times...good times!

I'm sure that we will all meet soon at Rabbit Hill! Until then, you never know at the show! Drive safe anyways.

I spoke with a rep from Marmot Basin today at the show. As they now have snowmakers there this season they have having a guaranteed season opening day of November 17th. Oooooh, that's just around 20 sleeps people so get your gear tuned up!

Military right?
Mechanic? Is that what I read somewhere back a few pages?
Any chance of gettin called overseas?

I musta got the S&S show too late today. Not much for last sason stuff. That was looking for anyway.
Piles of boards.
The rail was cool. Conditions not the greatest but the guys and gals didd some awesome stuff.
Poor girl in the purple......wipe at the bottom and planted her beak on the wood slope. She was bleedin'.
Busted nose most likely. She was doing great until that happened.

Gotta love the snow........

Yeah, that girl kept dialing in the kinked rail pretty good. That must have happened after I left (around 2:00-2:30). I grabbed a shitload of Kicking Horse stickers and managed to scoop one of their DVDs (not sure if we were allowed to take one). The woman working the booth was awesome; super friendly and willing to share the tips. The American girl working the Whitefish booth was really friendly as well; really trying to get me to come to the States but the US holidays sort of confused me (President's Day is apparently a huge holiday down there so the resorts are packed. President's Day? huh...). Chikkos was selling their boards pretty high. They had a 151 Gnu Riders Choice for $699 and they would throw in a free t-shirt (bad deal), but the booth across from them were selling the Gnu High Beam for $399 and are throwing in free Technine bindings (WOW!). Very tempted but I have enough stuff right now.

I'm so sorry but I don't remember. I will see if I can head back today but I am SO hungover from last night I just want to bag out again. I do remember it's the booth across from Chikkos. As well, there are a lot of people buying the old used snowboards for really crazy prices. I saw a girl holding an old beat up board that was a 160 and she must have only weighed about 120. The price tag on it was $320. Hmmm, brand new Carbon High Beam with brand new Technine bindings for $399. Crazy world, huh?

So I'm totally kicking myself in the head for not being able to go to the show this year, and seeing if I could find a deal on a helmet. Mine is too old, too beat up, and too big to survive another season.  As for "jobs" I am a learner of the school system, going to Center High and hopefully Grant Mac next semester.

Definetly didnt get to hit up the show since my awesome job has me work 10-5 every weekend, and that awesome job would be a produce clerk at superstore. Real job though is a student at grant macewan, going to the UofA next year.

Bachelor of Commerce, hoping to major in accounting (exciting stuff huh). Apparently though once Iam ready to article my accounting prof figured it would be pretty easy to do that in Whistler so Iam hoping when that time rolls around to move up to the mountains for a season... assuming I dont break before then. The classes are just stupidly easy right now, I never thought I'd say this but I wish they were harder=(

4th Class Power Engineer since 2002. Lots of money, with very little to do. Not working in the refineries though, but in commercial buildings dealing with boilers and chillers, etc.

They did have some brand new helmets there (Protecs) for around $50 at the swap area (though brand new). I would wait and see when the hell Sportcheck is having their annual tent sale. Wicked cheap then. Too bad that alot of you couldn't go. I wanted to go again yesterday but at the last moment decided my hangover was more persuasive in making me stay home and just crash.

Hey, Smack_My, nice to see another Edmontonian on board (pun intended)!

Two things.
1) You need a name
and 2) I am in the same boat you are, broke as heck, and getting impatient waiting for snow! And as for the name thing, I do not recommend not telling us... I WILL name you!

Just curious with you two do you work a ton of hours in winter? Cause there is no way I could get through a year with only working 4 months. I know for me atleast it seems I spend more money when Iam not working which is not the best of plans.

buuuh am i one of the "you two" you're talking too? cause if you mean working tons of hours at a ski hill, if you work full time at, say, $10 an hour, then that's $6400 in 4 months.
but i mean, last year i was working part time and i think i made close $3000 and i was working at like $8. it just depends on your schedual and how much you want to make.
