Worst time possible for snow, and I never thought I would say that.

Well pops went away for business, and he doesnt like taking his car on long road trips. So we shuffled cars, I lent my mom my car, I got my dads car, and he borrowed my moms car. And well with the summer tires on his car it is pretty much useless in snow/ice. And frankly I dont feel like changing the tires just for the few days I have it lol. But as long as the roads stay decent Iam happy. But come thursday we better get a few feet of snow.

Lol, when I first started driving the only cars that were front-wheel drive were brand new ones. My first car was a 1973 Old Cutlass Supreme. I then picked up a 1974 Olds Cutlass with a 350 V8 rocket (Gas was .25 cents a litre so the car cost $20 to fill but then minimum wage was $3.90 an hour) which had bald tires and was rear wheel drive. To make matters worse we lived on the hill on 103 street in the River Valley which made things really freaky when everything iced up. This is awesome driving experience lol!

Shit! That's OK. Halloween night the freezing temps will roll in and the locals will be making snow the next day. Speaking of which, Marmot is supposed to have snow makers this year for the lower half of the mountain.

haha nice to meet you darren. And as far as I know iam still down for the mini meet. I just got a question a bit off topic, hopefully someone can give me some advice. So today i got a photo radar ticket in the mail=( I got clocked going 80 in a 60 zone. So I got hit up for the 20 over the speed limit price. Now Iam not looking to get out completely but since it is right at 80 can I go in and fight and saying I was going 70 and atleast get a reduced price? Or is there really no point in even appealing it.

Smart...go to the court house and at least attempt to appeal it. They might be able to reduce the demerit points taken and/or reduce the fine. I don't know if it'll work, but try it.

Totally agree with everyone else. It costs too much to bring everything in to back up their argument (police officers, Commisionairres, sometimes calibration records etc). At the end it would just cost more than they would be bringing in (remember that photo radar IS a cash cow and thats all there is to it). So even if you plead against the higher ticket, everyone wins at the end, the cops, the judge, and you (well...mostly).

I personally love my drake podiums, such a nice step up from my old burton freestyles. From what I have heard I would look into some ride bindings. Iam still using my old Ride Orions and they have stuck around for atleast 6 seasons now.

Yeah, Some LTD products are OK but most are simply entry brand products. Believe it or not, Firefly is a Sportcheck brand in which they have simply contracted an outside company to rebrand their boards. I have actually read an old Street Sense article on snowboards where some Olympic Snowboarders rated a Firefly as number one over a few other name brands. Some of their bindings seem pretty solid. However the resale of them suck because no one knows them outside of Canada and everyone compares them to LTDs because they are so cheap.
I personally prefer going with higher end products though as you can get a lot more milage from them (usually). I still use a snowboard every season from 1995 (Gnu Stupid Cap 164) and Drake Bindings from 1997 (Neon...). However I have added to my quiver and have Drake bindings on all of them because I am very impressed with how I can use them and their customer service is second to none.
Hint: Know what size you need and brand from a visit to a shop. Then buy off Ebay. I bought a brand new pair of Drakes for $100 CDN (Includes the shipping) from the States while shops here were charging close to $400 CDN for the same bindings.

Isn't Rome a sub-brand of Burton?
Option also makes some nice bindings.  I bought Option Quests a couple years ago and they've been great.  I think Option Teams are the 2007 equivalent.  They have tool-less forward lean adjustment and you can rotate the high backs (which makes it easier to line them up with your heal edge when you ride duck).  Also the padded foot-bed is great; it reduces vibration and keeps snow out of the screws.

I'm not sure about Rome but Burton does seem to have their thumb in every pie as of late. Option is a great Canadian brand; lots of good board shops out of BC, even Prior. Check out their websites but if you want to look at one Pacesetter has a shitload of Options for sale. I personally am a big fan of Gnu, when I do an ollie on one it really seems to launch me in the air making it a lot of fun!
A lot of other people on this website do the same thing when buying off Ebay, but you really have to know what you are buying, ask the right questions and know if the savings are there as opposed to buying local. For instance, I bought a World Industries with Forum bindings for $120 CDN, with shipping included. I sold the bindings locally for $70 CDN and the board locally for $100 CDN. With the $50 CDN that I got with the difference I bought a BRAND NEW pair of last season's Drake F-60 bindings (my favourite binding company)for $49 CDN (shipping included). Those same bindings were selling for $320 CDN at Chikkos & F/S Snow in Edmonton. So I got brand new bindings for free and then bought a Custom Walbridge snowboard from a defunct company called Dimension Snowboards for $120 CDN. That setup worked out cheaper than a low end LTD board with no bindings. So have fun looking around and fire off any questions if your unsure!

Hey, does anyone know if there is supposed to be a new boardshop opening up at West Ed Mall? I heard there is a sign up for a snowboard specific store hanging up there somewhere.

Also the Edmonton Ski & Snowboard show is this weekend and tix are $6!

Is there still a Farside at WEM?  I seem to recall it was near the lagoon.  What about Plush?  Does anyone still shop at Plush? (yeah, it's been a while since I left Edmonton).

Plush is F/S are both doing very well. In fact, I picked up my jacket/pants from F/S like 3 weeks ago. As for the store opening up, I think you guy's might be referring to the Quicksilver store opening soon.

Rome isn't a sub-brand of Burton. The Rome guys are people who left the Big B to start up a totally new company. If you ask me, Rome makes super solid products. As for Option bindings...they look cheap. I got a chance to fool around with them, and I didn't like how they felt in store, like too many things would break on the hill. Anyways, my point is, take a look at Ride, Rome or Technine bindings, all three are really solid.

Yeap, Rides=solid. Salomon...I personally say no. I got a chance to demo a pair last year, and the straps and shit were coming undone by the time I reached the bottom of the hill. Some people on this board love them, some hate them.

As for the show, 5 pm closing...lame. What time are you guys going? I want to coerce one of my friends into going with me to the show, but if it's going to be smaller than it was last year, there's no point.

Totally! Technine builds really solid highbacks so they can withstand some abuse.

Well, I won a pair of tickets to the show so I'll head out saturday (maybe between 10-12) and then head out again on sunday (right at opening) with the other half. I need to go there either tonight or tomorrow to bring in some more stuff to sell (got rid of two snowboards so far and several pairs of boots and bindings at the other ski swap at Snow Valley). I wonder if it will be like last year where they set up a rail outside and held a contest?
