Brighteyes - Not to be an ass (or to defend MPD either), but I was bored at work and started reading some pages when I came across a post where you were tellin' MPD off quite eloquently and then I read this quote: Had we been living in the states, my family would have been bankrupt perhaps my parents would have been divorced.
Your perception of the US is a bit off. Yes, privatized health care may bankrupt you, but in times of crisis, US citizen are know for coming through. We pull together to help others to pay for those bills. We take it out of our pockets and start charity funds. There was a little girl that went to my sons school who got Cancer. Her medical bills were outrageous. The communty pulled together and held fundraisers to help the family. This happens over and over again in the States. MPD is of the minority in the way he thinks. The US does lean toward socialism, but has strong ties to capatilism. Hence the reason of privatised health care. We don't just look at our neighbors and say, "well, to bad for them, I'm doin' just fine". In fact, my neighbors just had a house fire a couple months ago. The entire block came to their aid.
Oh, and divorce rate in Canada is 45%... only 4% less than the states. Which is mind boggling. Basically 1 out of every 2 people in Canada and the US get divorced. How sad...

I was saying with that quote how family crisis and bankruptcy can tear families apart. I'm sorry I implied that everone in the states is of the same mindset as MPD, I have just known a few people in the states who have lost everything because they had to pay medical bills.

Actually I was out with some of my sisters friends a while ago (shes 20.. a bunch of her guy friends are like 22 23 etc) ANYWAY, one of them found out how old I was and called me OLD. Straight out seriously, I went to highschool with his ex gf, and I said oh ya I know her she graded the year after me... and he said "Holy shit you're old".
23 and Im already being called old. Is it all downhill from here? hahahaha

23 holy crap your a senior!!! pfff. I'm 18 and i've been called old. I was asked why i still live at home two weeks after school ended. I was shocked. I said well i'm not going to find a place to stay for the two months that i'm living in town before i go to university when i could stay at home. But i guess some people do move out right away and start working but not me. I served at BP for the summer then i'm back in the classroom. sigh.
