The days are getting shorter again...

the mornings crisp, and the evenings a whole lot cooler....

the snow dusted the peaks for the first time this autumn....
just to remind us, that it will come back...

winter is so nearly here, and i am ready pack the wakeboard back into the cupboard and almost ready to hang up the rockclimbing gear....
ready to go put on a few extra layers,

and ready to live in cold all over again...
just for the simple pleasures of the snow..

YAAAAY, i can hardly wait....

And so it is getting warm again...

hot even...

and those devine long days,

just BLISS.

I have finally gotten over my addiction to winters, and can now cope in a normal 12 month year with all four seasons.

The northern Mountain closes on Sunday 21st - still with a 3 metre base (not bad!) -

and then I leave here, this horrible smelly busy rushing city... with too many people, and far too many cars,

and then I get to go home...

and this time, For GOOD.

Sunday 28th November, I kiss Auckland goodbye, as i drive over the bombays and pop out of the bubble.... and won't look back.

Thank god, Spring is in its later days, and Summer is nearly here. Taking me home to the fresh air and clean water and all that rock to climb..

so - i haven't logged in for like a month or something.
damn that's what too much snow does to you. keeps you far away from the computer.
thank god for that.

only 23 sleeps till i go home again.

yay. yipidy doo-daa.

then only 83 sleeps till i'm back for good.
I'M GOIN HOOOOOME !!

am trying to decide whether I should renew my core membership.

hmmmm.

p.s - Far out Turoa is rad.
i always underestimated it. and now it has proved itself to me. what a hill.

but still - i will not miss it next season.

on top of that - i have always been a FLOW knocker - a hater, a critic and a cynic.

and now i see i was wrong.
i have searched for almost two years to find something that will allow me to ride regular again and now I have.
I will be selling my sal's and drake's and buying a set of flows - purely for the love of riding again.

bless you people!
ha.

If someone ever asked me to give up climbing or snowboarding "because they love me too much to cope with anything happening to me"
I would be out the door so fast, they wouldn't have time to say "Adios".

The reason is: Days like this.Today.

After all....

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body,

but rather to skid in sideways,
totally worn out, shouting-
" f*ck! - what a ride.. "

Isn't having a smoking section in a restaurant like having a peeing section in a swimming pool?

daylight savings.

the end of the long days has happened.

it is getting dark.

the water is getting cold as f*ck.

it snowed 5cm in the north island last week.

it was march then.

i am going home in 25 sleeps.

i am sooo haaappyyyy.

(but only for 3 days.)

then i come back to smellyland until august.

then i get to go home again.

(but only for two weeks.)

then back to smellyland again.

But then, after the daylight savings starts again, and the dark gets smaller and the snow has all gone, i will get to go home for good.

i will be there in time for santa.

finally. for good.

i promise not to leave for so long ever again.

Worried Ruapehu residents are being reassured the mountain's lahar warning system is working perfectly, despite the activating of a false alarm last month

It has erupted about 50 times since 1861. At the top of the volcano there is an acidic crater lake. The volcano last exploded on 11 Sept 2001.

The most notorious lahar occurred in 1953, when 151 people were killed at Tangiwai after crater debris knocked out a rail bridge.

The crater lake is now 96 percent full, threatening a lahar, or mudslide, late in the year.

Should (when) the Crater overflows and lets the present wall go, the size and speed of the mud flow is expected to be more than twice than the lahar which caused the Tangiwai disaster.

The Government opted to install a lahar warning system which will offer 90 minutes warning, to those on the mountain, prior to the lahar flow departing from the crater.

------------------
History of the Mt Ruapehu Volcano

Sep 25 97 A strong eruption made a column of ash and steam that reached a height of about 6 miles (10 km). An ash plume drifted to the east for several tens of miles (tens of kilometres). A substantial lahar flowed down the Whangaehu Valley.

From late September the mountain continued to erupt, until finally on Oct 2 '97, it sent plumes of ash and steam to a maximum height of 12 miles high and mudflows down the flank of the volcano. Explosions in the crater threw large blocks of rocks thousands of feet

It was the largest eruption in New Zealand in the last 400 years.

been AAAGES since i wrote ANYthing.

has been insanely hot.
like daily sunburn & icecreams & swimming..

can't complain at all after being the pastiest ever after my reel of winters..

yesterday i decided i like wakeboarding ALMOST as much as riding snow..... not quite, but getting damn close....

but the pleasures are not as pure and you have to pay for gas $$ to run the boat and you can't cane down a pow slope with your buddies all around ya - so thats where it will never equal it....

but it makes for a fun summer.... and makes me miss riding just a little less... and keeps my calves prepared for when the white stuff does return...

god damn i am blessed.

speaking of which - Tans, when are you coming to play pool w us. ??
