Leather Care?.
Posted on Jan 23, 2009

Just got a pair of Pow royal gloves and I'm looking for recommendations of what to treat them with. They didn't come with the nikwax their supposed to and I'm not sure what kind it is, nikwax has like 4 different leather care products. BackCountry said the would send me a free bottle so if it's something they carry would be great. |

Does a diamond stone need a guide?.
Posted on Jan 10, 2009

I've always just tuned my board with a basic file and guide but was thinking abot picking up some new tools.
My understanding is that you should use a file first in a guide to set a bevel and to make a "coarse" adjustment and then use the diamond stone after that to polish, deburr and resharpen the edges when needed (i.e. only use the file occasionally as it takes off a lot more edge material).
Do you need to use the Diamond stone in a guide too in order to maintain the correct bevel? Most tuning tool companies seem to suggest you guide the diamond stone just by hand but it seems to me like that could tweak the bevel. |

Pow Glove.

Anyone have any experience with pow gloves? I'm looking at the royals. Anyone know if the royals take well to wearing an extra liner? They look like a mid weight glove and the extra liner would be good for the cold conditions I usually ride in.
Hows the waterproofing of the Hipora insert? Durability and fit? |

Top sheet epoxy repair.
Posted on Dec 24, 2008

I need to fix a pretty decent size top sheet delam on my brothers board and have a few questions. I have extensive experience in fabricating things and working with fiberglass so I imagine this should be a pretty straight forward fix.
I know I need a long set epoxy, but any other specifics? General purpose, marine grade, any other kind that would work best?
Anyone have any specific methods for clamping? I.E. what type of clamp, c-clamp, vise grip, other? Also what to use in between the clamps and top sheet to avoid having something get stuck to the board in the epoxy leaks?
What about ambient temp? I haven't done much with using straight epoxy to adhere something but when making a fiberglass mold, low temps cause it not to set well. |

Detuning Magne-Traction.

Any detuned the full contact length of their MTX board? Lib says you can do this and still hold a good edge and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this?
I'm riding in MI so I want to keep the edge hold for icy conditions but I'm also riding 95% park. |

Has anyone seen the new 08/09 686 smarty cargo's in the gunmetal color? Based off the pictures I've seen, it's a lot darker then last years, more like a faded black. Can anyone verify this? |

Southwest and AirTran board bag policies?.
Posted on Oct 28, 2008

I'm going on a trip back to Tahoe this winter and will be traveling on either Southwest or AirTran Airlines and I'm confused about their specific policies. SW states that "Snowboard equipment includes one snowboard and one pair of boots." I called and asked if you could pack other gear in there and they said it should be OK but the lady on the phone didn't sound completely positive about it. Air Tran simply states "Snowboarding equipment - One (1) snow board will be accepted when packed in a case designed to prevent damage to snow boards. The snow board will be accepted only upon completion of a Limited Release Tag." No mention of boots or anything else.
Has anyone used SW and did they allow you to stuff the rest of your gear in their provided it is under the 50lbs limit? Also I assume the dimension limit is waived since no snowboard bag could come under that (I'll be using a Dakine low roller 165 BTW)? Same question for AirTran.
All input appreciated but especially those who have actually traveled with their board with either one of these Airlines.
Can't wait to get back to Tahoe, the 350 vertical of SE Michigan is killing me, but my jibbin is getting a lot better. |

SE Michigan, Alpine VS. Pine.

I'm going to get a season pass at one of these places and I'm looking for anyones opinions. I'm wondering who has the consistently better park?
I rode mostly at Alpine last year and thought there park was pretty decent. Not many jumps, but the boxes and rails seemed to have a nice progression for learning new tricks. Also they have a chair for their smaller park, but it doesn't run until later in the day which is really annoying.
Rode at Pine Knob the last day of the season and thought there park was pretty nice too, more jumps too. Do they always have that many features or did they build it up at the end of the season? They had a tow rope for their smaller park which I'm not to cool with, never used them in Tahoe and it killed my arms/shoulders/gloves that day.
Alpine's a little more $ but 20 miles closer, Pine knob's the opposite. What would you do? Thanks in advance!
