Life stuff... With photos and words and stuff?
"The Chinese Landscape"
There have been some recent requests to see some of my more personal works outside of snowboarding, so I'll just start using them with my blog instead.
And yes she's naked. Get over it.

Well that was more than interesting. For the past month I pulled 12-18 hour days 6 days a week and an 8 hour day on the 7th.... This isn't the first time I've overworked myself to the point of throwing up, so I've kind of learnt my line and not to cross it again.
Submission season round 1 just finished and I've gotten just under 20 photos out there to 4 different mags - Future Snowboarding, Snowboard Canada, Transworld Snowboarding and Playboard Magazine. I hope you guys get a chance to pick up all of these wicked magazines, and hopefully there'll be some of my shots. It was a great year and I had tons of fun.

Tonight is going to be a good night; I will finally be able to sleep peacefully in my own bed. I'm not gonna lie, I've been partying hard since thursday night up in Whistler while shooting every single day and it's been pretty gnarly. I'm pretty sure it's finally caught up with me. But I don't really care because tomorrow we're heading up Grouse for a super fun brodown session with photos. So stoked! Teasers should start coming out about now, and I'm sure Alterna's gonna put out something that'll blow your minds. Keep it on the up and peep shi*t from them. You won't be dissappointed.

Do you want to be the steeziest and coolest guy in town? Do you want to be a f*cking rockstar? See you at the Grouse Showdown then... You better be there checking it out. That shi*t's gonna be so off the hook! I'll blog it up again later.

With the 07 version of the 24/36 coming up this week, I've found myself thinking a little more "outside of the box." Inspired by last years winners, this year should be a good one. I've got more support this year and I hope overall things will turn out awesome. Last year, I was fortunate enough to place amongst the top 7, and so hopefully I can keep it up. Good luck to everyone whom is competing and lets hope the weather co-operates.

I don't really care if it's been way too long since my last blog. shi*t happens and sometimes I just don't have the time. Life in Victoria is picking up. Assignments are being handed out like water - 8 glasses a day. I'm really enjoying this running around but holding this up while shooting everyweekend in Vancouver is starting to give me gray hairs. Seriously, I shaved my head because I didn't want to have gray hair at the age of 20. Ok, maybe I don't have gray hairs, but it sure as hell feels like I do. I wasn't lieing about the shaving my head part though. I took this last weekend off to mellow out from the weekend before. I had a pretty sweet gig shooting for Nike 6.0 with Dano Pendygrasse and Trevor Graves but on the catboarding day I took a gnarly spill and ended up in the hostipal from a concussion. It's going to take a lot more than a good spill to keep me down. I was up the next day at 7am to go shoot. So back to my "do nothing" weekend. I left my house in Vic once to buy some camera piece thingy that cost me $50 and then never left my house again. I cooked some shi*t every now and then, but for the most part, I laid in bed wallowing in my own exhaustion. I'm back to Van this weekend for Round 20 or something. I've lost track but I'm sure I can find all those ferry receipts and tell you exactly how many times I've been back to Vancouver to shoot photos. So here it goes, Round 20 or something.

There's this crazy inversion going on in the world of snowlerboarding that's not really ampin' me out a whole lot. That and my wallet's feeling the pains of the $100 ferry rides I've been taking every weekend. I think I'm going to take this weekend to relax, re-coup, watch an entire season of Family Guy (yes Kyle, end to end) and just straight up veg... It's something I need pretty badly right about now. As far as school goes, I love every second of it. Yes, I'll admit there are times in which I'm ready to pass out, but if I can walk away from one, and just one tiny bit of information from showing up to class, it's been well worth my time. Oh, but I almost forgot. All of you need to go to the liquor store right now, go to the import section of beer, and buy "Phuket" beer... I bought it for the name (pronounced Foo-K hahaa) and was thoroughly surprised at how good it actually was. I'm definetly going to buy it again, and I think all of you should have an empty f*ckit beer (i mean Foo-K) on your wall.

Well, the winter continues. The weather got a little warmer yielding less than favourable snow conditions and just f*cking us for most things. Hopefully, it'll snow another 2 feet then go bluebird again but it seriously looks doubtful at this present moment. I love this life though. Even though I haven't had a weekend in a very long time, I'm still hauling strong. I give it another month before I start hating everyting and everyone. Only then will I take a day off to sleep and watch a full season of family guy, end to end.

 Me
The past 4 days were a bit insane. Here's how it all went down. School friday morning in Victoria, then a rip over to Vancouver for a night session with Shapiro and Beaudry. After a quick session, a rip to the parents house to get some shi*t in line and then the drive up to Whistler with Welters. Sleep 3 hours, and head up Callahan with Welters, Hartman, Corbett, Kirby, Jackson, Scott and almost Antle. That was a weird day. Started off with Antle's clutch seizing in the parking lot then Barry's sled catching fire, and finally Scott's Turbo blowing right off his carborator. Needless to say, the day was a writeoff. So that night was a drive back to Vancouver for a nice 5 hour sleep and then a rip up to Hemlock the next day with Ingmar Brink and his beautiful new '06 F250 Longbox. Mmmmm, it's red. Got back at 3am from that session to sleep another 5 hours and wake up monday, ready for another Whistler session with Barker and Skelhorn. Shoot till 3pm, drive back and get on the laptop. 4 hours of emails later I finally get my much needed 8 hours of sleep. Well, up Tuesday morning, drive over to Victoria and go to classes in the afternoon.
Yup, insane.

School is back in session. Right now I'm sitting in lectures with Dave Montazambert and learning some pretty insane shi*t about CS3, and new ways to use the powerful program. I'm also learning some pretty advanced lighting techniques so all is well in my books.

Just the other day we had some nice long hikes with heavy gear. Myrosha and I finally had the chance to laugh, jump, hike and chill all in one day; so I'm a happy camper. Also along for the haul was Paul Welters and Barry Hartman. Somehow, along our mini journey, we ended up on a North Face in overcast. Then the sun popped it's beautiful looking head over right after we finished setting up 2 features. We did our thing in the shade and high tailed it outta there into a sick bluebird day. We ripped on up to another spot and started building as fast as we could in hopes to have a jump ready for sunset. Well, all went well, and shi*t got built. Never have I had such fun times in such a hurry.Perfect way to wrap up the year.

Sometimes my mind plays tricks on me. I think to myself, should I have just spent my money on a truck and sled? Do I really need to wait until next year to get a summit 800? How much shi*t am I going to miss this year because I'm away living in Victoria hitting books instead of pow? The answer is simple. I'm in it for the long haul, I have the rest of my life to look forward to, and I am extremely glad I'm taking this route instead of the quick way in. I'm very young (for a snowboard photographer) and super stoked that I'll be able to pursue my passion with a clear mindset and with the tools available to do so. I may have to put myself in a very large debt, but name a snowboarder out there who hasn't? It's part of the industry dude. So, thanks to Atomic Snowboards, I will be able to continue my pursuit to a lifetime goal this year, but I will be the low key weekend shooter. But just you wait until next year, all you'll be hearing out of me is BRAAAAAAAP BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPP BRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPPP...

Yesterday was the beginning of my "winter break". Everyone around is starting to flock on home to their friends and families for the grand christmas cheer. I am no exception to the rule, though I'm not here for the christmas cheer, I'm here for the shred. Everyone around knows that this weekend is the best weekend in Whistler history. This is the time where everyone (including underaged girls sneaking out of their parents condos) rip on over to the bars for the super madness. Saturday is going to be among the most epic days ever. T-Minus 2 hours until I'm strapping in and rippin down peak. Can't wait.

Sleep... An indulgence that I have had to forgo this past weekend in Vancouver. And though I was deprived of this indulgence, I was more stoked than ever to go out with a crew that was willing and motivated enough to get shi*t done. It was definitely a treat shooting with snowboarding's most loving crew, Gnarcore. Thanks boys. But why the 4am blog? Well, I woke up about an hour ago to start on some school work and found out that my studio time got bumped to a little later, so this is just a time waster really.
And to add to the stoke factor, I get to shoot with one of my favourite dudebra-brodus-braskis this weekend at Mt. Washingtong, Myrosha. DUDE!!! TIME TO KILL IT!!!

Aaron M. Shapiro and Andrew M. Skelhorn
Well, life was gnarly this past weekend. shi*t went down and I ended up with a slew of shi*tty photos, partly due to my moronic decision to NOT bring my chargers, and tripods. Ya, please punch me now. Grouse was some f*cked up pow. Too deep I didn't know what to do with it. I mean, I was chest deep in so much white stuff I couldn't turn properly. This blog is rushed so whatever. I'll have more next time. Oh ya, Shap and Skelhorn have the same initials. Weird eh?

Today is a f*cking great day (so far). I just got some wicked ass news that definetly gave me some stoke. I can't tell you what it is, but you'll find out this season for sure. Here's you're only hint - SBC. I also just found out I've got some shots in a f*cking sick book called "Addicted To Snow" that was recently published out of Germany. It's a book with some of the best photos from the past 5 years in Snowboarding. I suggest you check it out and get stoked like I did.

Bottled up, breaking
free, and wandering alone; these last few days spent in Whistler summed it all
up. Crouching over the fireplace with jerry rigged chop sticks for our marshmallow,
driving aimlessly searching for what isn't there, and falling asleep to the new
park city movie that came with Future were definitely the parts of my life that
I miss.
This quick indulgence to the snowboarding culture that I was fortunate enough
to enjoy really set a new mood to my everyday life. I've found myself
enjoying every breath and every step I take to school as I reminisce on the
past few days. I couldn't have asked for a better vacation/work weekend.

With all the things going on right now, I find myself really missing Vancouver. There's just one core element and culture missing in this city that I can't live with - snowboarding. Sure there are a couple "snowboarders" here but it's just not the same. The "snowboarders" here are on the mountain maybe 15 days a season max and their "passion" lies therein. But as I lement on the first year I broke 100 days at Grouse, I also remember the years I couldn't make it up more than 15 times (mainly just the 1st year). So, I feel sorry for these people. They do have the same "passion" as I do for snowboarding, but the other element is missing. The culture and lifestyle that comes with it just isn't here. It's like they snowboard, but their not snowboarders. Well, I'm not going to leave on a sad note,; I'm actually going to leave on a stoked note. If you happen to be browsing through some of the recent magazines, check out the new issue (issue 3) of Future Snowboarding and find my first double page spread. Yup, I'm f*cking stoked. Dano's wicked and I love life.

 Rider: Myrosha Daley
Sometimes you think you've snagged a banger of a shot, but then no one likes it. Sadly, this photo is not getting published, nor is it getting used anywhere. Why? I have no idea really. I thought it was one of the best photos I took all season. Maybe it's the rail phase people are going through? I dont know. What I do know is that Myrosha Daley is one of my favourite people to shoot with. He's the Mr. Nice Guy of snowboarding and his buttery smooth style doesn't go un-noticed. Thanks Myrosha for a wonderful day and some wonderful memories.

Some people are snowboarding right now! And it's not me. But that's ok, I can accept the fact that they can ride some pow pow (damn you Jeff) and I can accept the fact that people are out shooting handrails too (damn you Owen). I'm fine with all of this because I'm concentrating hard on what I love. It's not that I don't love snowboarding, or that I love photography more than snowboarding, it's that I love each equally. And sometimes, mainly last winter, I get tied up with one more than the other (mmmm powder). This year is different, and as horrendous as no snowbooarding (well fun snowboarding) for me sounds, it's truly going to still be an epic year in my mind.

 Rider - Matt Gordon
Life's funny like that. Just as everyone is making their massive switch to "digital", I'm making my massive switch to "film". What is this blasphamy you speak of? Film! I thought that shi*t was outdated and more of a "fine art" form. Well, I'm finding myself in a crazy world of new challenges of countless dreams and aspirations. This wonderful world is really slowing me down and getting me to think more technically that ever before. I'll attribute some of my future photos (the ones up my head and not on a paper) to this new found notion of slowing down.

Pre-"Slushy Slash"
I had a glimpse of winter there for a moment. On Thursday after classes I ripped down to Seattle for the "Blotto Photo" exhibition (thanks Kirby for the ride). Friday morning I ripped back up to Victoria to go to class. After classes I ripped down over to Vancouver. Saturday I woke up and was off to typical Vancouver errands and bullshi*t. Blah blah people people and ended up firing off 4 rolls of film. Sunday I woke up nice and early and ripped up to Whistler. I was there for a total of 3 hours then Skelhorn hopped on the bus and ripped down to Vancouver for a nice happy turkey day. Monday morning we woke up and skated Kirkstone and Lonsdale for a couple hours, firing off more film like it grew on trees. We ripped back for a lunch with my rents when Welters showed up. Beer at the pub then back home to start packing. I drop Andrew off at the airport and rip over to Hartmans house before I catch the ferry so he can check out the new "In Transit" flick. About as fast as I had arrived, I was outta there and on the 9pm ferry. Thanks to some lovely traffic, I got home at 11:45pm.
What the f*ck does this have to do with winter? Ask any rider who travels - it's a mirror image.
