Let's see some reports from folks on their trips. Here's one of my favorite local (for me) trips. Just spent five days in this cabin: This is the route essentially...follow the red line...took us about 7 hours of hiking in knee deep snow with very heavy packs. A lot of the route you can't really see since it's either behind hills or up drainages that you can't see in this panoramic view. This view is looking west and north west. A panoramic view of the basin I was in...sort of the back side of the above panorama. Essentailly looking west to north to south. Some of the chute that are just out the door of the cabin. Rode the one on the right. The start of the hike...nasty storming conditions. About 300 yards after this photo the side hilling gets super nasty. One of the women couldn't hold her edge and it washed out on her and she fell. She had to self arrest before she slide down the slope over rocks, into trees and off a cliff. This is the water hole...getting water from 10 feet down. (pure headwaters gold type water...just drink it straight with no worries about giardia (sp?) or anything) And a few Stupid Cabin Fun (tm) shots: (actually this shot is from the trip a month earlier...me riding the cabin roof on our broken drag sled...trying to keep my gloveless hands dry.) Making our own late night drunk fun...notice the firework smoke from just going off and the one that didn't next to his right ski. Trying to play frisbee in the night storm. The dive: The catch: The deep snow...this guy is 6' 4" After one of our better runs. About 1,000 vert feet of absolute splendor: An ominous view on the hike in. These are some great chutes to ride here. This is pretty much the back side of the saddle that you have to hike up to in the route panorama shot: And then another panoramic view of the basin the cabin is in looking east-south-west. You can avoid that long traverse across that ridge (otherwise it's that avi slope) by going down this chute on the far right with a heavy pack instead. The choice is yours. Sorry about the sizing of the panoramic shots...I'm sure you folks can deal though...hopefully they load ok. You can go to my photobucket site and get the panoramic views in their full size...so you can see more detail if you'd like. Enjoy.

Glad folks like the shots...I certainly like that trip...once I'm over the muscle soreness, and mental fatigue that it entails. FYI - I used the *free* program PIXTRA to do the panoramic shots. http://www.pixtra.com/ Just take a bunch of photos, making sure there's some overlap with in each one...and then PIXTRA will do the rest. It leaves a 'watermark' on the output, but if you feel that's unacceptable you can just pay for a version that won't have it. Kind of a fun program in that the panoramic shots are interesting.

Awesome pics. Looks like a fun trip. The area looks familiar to me. Is that in the Elkhorns near Anthony Lakes? I'm planning a b/c trip there sometime this spring.

*bzzt* Nope. Although I will be going to the Wallowa's around the end of march for a hut trip. I'll post a trip report from that as well. Glad you liked the pictures.

Do you mind sharing where the pics were taken? You don't have to give away any secrets, just a general location is cool. When you go on your Wallowa trip are you going with Wing Ridge Tours or self guided?

I'll be going with http://www.wallowahuts.com/ The group I'm with wanted the full deal...so we'll be guided and cooked for. MMMMMM...Not carrying food/sleeping bag/cook gear...not breaking trail. Now the only thing I need is a choclate on my pillow! That trip above was in Montana.

Sounds like a sweet trip. The Wallowas are great mtns for a bc trip. So much great terrain and snow. Are you riding a splitboard? What about the others in your group? I'll be doing a bc trip to Wing Ridge in late April with some friends and am curious, as none of us have splitboards. We'll be slogging up on snowshoes. Have a good trip. I'm looking forward to seeing the pics afterward.

I *think* I'll be the only split boarder on the trip...the rest will be telemarking I think. A friend went last year and had an incredible time with over a foot of light, dry fresh...which is nice for early april. If we can get lucky with the weather as well it should be a good trip. I've heard they've got some great terrain and have always wanted to check that range out. Try and get a split board for back coutnry use rather then snowshoes...it's that much better/easier to tour/get around. (sure wish others would post some trip reports....) *hint* *hint*

as previously stated my riding season is over but i got some pics from 2 recent trips...btw thanks again for the hiking tips, they were very useful.... saturday we went to Catoctin Mountain Park in thurmont, md...we got a late start so we just jumped on a trail to get a little hike in before it got dark....it was a great trail but there wasnt much to see..we snapped a few pics... ^^i've got a little rock climber on my hands here ^^ he was also really curious with the creek we found.... then tuesday we did a 2.5 mile hike on the appalachian trail to get to annapolis rock..very scenic but it was EXTREMELY windy so we didnt get to explore was much as we wanted to....it was also a little hazy out so the pics didnt turn the best... and i got a little climbing done...nuthing serious since it was windy and i was giving my g/f a heart attach since she never saw me climb before.... Solid pics as always Ult, and I was delighted to hear you mention that you actually get all sore, because it makes you more human!! Most guys in their 40's arent' kicking arse like you, simple as that. I can't imagine hiking for that long, although I could do it. I seem to always manage to push myself through fatigue, which is really important when you surf, with rips and rogue sets and all that. There's really no other option. My legs were shaking after my last few hikes at Kirkwood, so I just kinda stretched and kicked it and took some nice deep breaths and sips of water and then dropped into total goodness. I'm gonna put up pics of my second trip sometime today. Anyway, this is a cool section, I've read just about everything in this area!

Wrong place for this probably...but I figured I'd reach those that might be interested. I work at a University out west and on my breaks I go to the University Center for some snacks...they have a gear board there which I occasionally scan. Right now there's two split boards on it. One a Voile and the other a 'kit' Burton Custom. Voile - 01-02 Volie Split Decision 173 - Burton Bindings - Tractor Skins $300 (406) 240-7397 Burton Custom 164 split board. Made with a Voile Split Kit. Skins included. $175 (Been on the board since 2/13/6) (406) 239-0683 call Kevin. Figure I'd pass these along since I'm an advocate of split boards. (tjcomly - Nice ADK shots...cool hardwood forests...) (Konk...I'm plenty human...believe you me. My left butt cheek has been sore all season from landing on it playing hockey, and since it's the lead cheek on my butt checking tour of the west. ;-) ) [Edited on 3/15/2006]

I know huh? Everytime I pull up this page I think, shiit I wish I had some stoke ot post. Combination of no camera and usually ride alone makes it hard! One of the girlies has a camera I am going to borrow for a trip or two this year. We'll see if I can pull off a wicked gnarly method 3 from Hollywood rock. Or not.

Nice shots reachben. Big files though, try resizing them to 640x480. I am surprised riderspro hasn't been complaining about download times on his dialup ;) I went to Berthoud Pass yesterday. Got a few shots while it was sunny. I put a few shots up in the 30+ forum but here are some repeats and a few more. There was around 10" of fresh with over 30" fallen for the week. It was fluff upon fluff. The pass was surprisingly uncrowded. Less than 15 cars in the parking lot at 10am. Which is unheard of, even for a weekday. Skinning out to Russel with Cody. Big surprise no one had hiked to the top of Mt Russell. The Norh chutes were untouched. Dropped a couple of cornice bombs, dug a pit, the snow was super stable. Hard pack at the top, but once you got about 40 feet into it, the snow turned soft and deep. Cody supervised Will's descent down the left coulior. One track minds. On the pull out photo you can see where the cornice bounced down lookers left. After that we dropped three more lines. Two big chutes and the ultra classic 110's run to the highway. Unfortunately the light went to crap so I quit taking pics. It was a bummer because on the Frakenstein chute I was dropping VW bus sized cornice blockes into the chute. Would have been great to have had some good shots of that.
