So...

I need new gloves, my old ones are really crappy and I don't know why I've never bothered buying decent ones. They're ALWAYS soaked at the end of the day.

I have absolutely NO clue/knowledge about gloves...Can someone help me out a bit? What specs should I look for, what kinda fabric, brand?

ANYTHING will be a help as I'm at level zero on Gloves...

Regards :)

you need to tell us your preferences before we can offer any advice... glove selection can be highly personal and dependent on a lot of things... under the cuff/over the cuff, leather/fabric, mitten/glove, lightweight/heavyandwarm... temperature, conditions, type of riding (pipe/park/backcountry/allmountain/resort), closure system... these are all factors that can affect the kind of glove you want... i take my glove choice pretty seriously because i've ridden with cold wet hands and it sucks... think about where you ride and how you ride and the level of warmth and thickness you'd like to wear on your hands... then get back to us.

in the meantime, a couple of good brands to check out (i've pretty much worn a bunch and go through about 2 or 3 pairs per season depending on temperature and what part of the season it is):

dakine, defcon, pow, burton/ak/analog, rome... i've worn grenades which some people like but i won't touch again (they basically disentegrated after a few rides)... same with celtek, it's love hate (i've used their cheaper stuff and hated them and used their more expensive high end stuff and loved them)

Ok, I´m gonna be a ski- and snowboardteacher the whole season (Dec-March/April) and I'll have 1/2 days of during the weekend, when I'll be able to ride free. I prefer freeriding over resort/park/pipe, being in the pure nature is what Skiing and boarding is all about for me.

I'm going to Austria and during those 4 months it's likely I'll encounter all types of conditions available. I'll have to deal with -20 celsius, but also +5, windy, dry, snow, everything.

Basically I want durable, sturdy gloves and I don't mind paying 40 euro's more for a better pair. If there's no all-round good option available I think buying 2 pair aint a bad option. I saved up qutie some and whats a better way than spending it on skiing and boarding?

A thing to keep in the back of my head is that I'm also a skier which means I need sorta flexible gloves to be able to get a firm grip on my poles (or what do you call them in English?)

Thanks for the info so far, I'll check out Dakine, Defcon, Pow, Burton and Rome for a start.

What price should I be aiming for more or less?

Regards

My advice is over the cuff, gortex and leather.

Just got my nephew a nice pair of Dakine's off of backcountry shipped for like 60.00$

OK, over/under the cuff doesn't matter too much too me. Normally I always have under the cuff, but I guess it doesn't matter (though under the cuff is prettier :P ). And ye, gortex seems to do the job. Where did you order your gloves?

I put my eye on these ones now, they seem really nice and the reviews are all awesome. They're not puffy and big, and not ugly (unlike those burton designs...)

The reviews I read were really sweet and it sounds as if the gloves are really durable, which is very important for me :)

Any thougts on my pick?

i would actually go non-leather as leather tends to get soppy and heavy once the waterproofing wears off or if the fingertips are compromised at all... goretex is a good idea too... check Burton's AK line, Dakine, Pow, and i forgot to mention Level my last post... these four brands make the best high quality glove in my opinion... a little pricey but should be versatile enough to take you from skiing to riding and back throughout the backcountry... Burton and Level can be purchased through their websites... not sure about Dakine and Pow... check Dogfunk.com/Backcountry.com, Tactics.com, Eternalsnow.com, Evogear.com, Exitrealworld.com, ColoradoBoarder.com, Altrec.com, Sierrasnowboards.com, and PortersTahoe.com to name a few reliable online vendors...

Over the cuff with some kind of cinch is nice to keep the snow out of your jacket sleeves when in deep powder

I prefer leather palms because it's naturally waterproof, breathable and durable

Quality gortex gloves(all gortex is not equal) should NEVER be wet even after along day of spring riding, those 30$ gloves that have "gortex" printed the cardboard label in the bargin bin at your local mega sporting goods retailer are crap.

I got my last gloves off of backcountry.com but there's lots of sites out there, I normally always have 1 pair of nice new reliable gloves and a backup pair incase they somehow get wet and it's really cold out.

Look for something specifically with real gortex XCR like the Dakine Apollo's

Burton Pinnacle Gore Tex are the best I've had. Very warm on cold days and they breath well and are still comfy on warmer days too.

celteks are solid gloves. I got the outbreak springs which I wear in conditions above like 25 degrees. The outbreak winter mitts are solid and way warm
