this is sort of a noob question but what have you found to be the best mid layer?

i really have no idea cuz i've been wearing down jacket up until now which means it's always just been tshirt+jacket.

anyways i picked up a nice& cheap shell jacket yesterday so need to know what mid layer i need to buy.

thanks!

in a puffy: one long sleeve non-cotton layer... in a shell in cold conditions: one short sleeve non-cotton layer and one long sleeve non-cotton layer... in all situations: non-cotton boxers by burton, a pair of non-cotton basketball shorts, and a pair of knee high non-cotton snowboard specific socks...

moral of the story... non-cotton make snowboarder happy

by mid layer, I'm going to assume you mean: "what I put on after underwear, but before my shell and pants."

- cotton is bad
- $80 poly pro is probably not needed unless you are touring Denali or planning a major assault on the Himalayas
- Go to your local sporting goods store and buy a good non-cotton, moisture wicking set of long johns and matching shirt...this should not cost you more than $40 total.
- I tend to like an additional layer above the waist...again, no cotton...try something like a hot chilies top or sythetic material vest.
- Most importantly, buy a good belt and learn how to use it. All the technical gear in the world won't keep you dry or warm if your pants are hanging down below your ass...yes, I'm an old, crochety bastard in case you were wondering.

I hope this was of some help.

I just wear long sleeves and track pants made of polyester (should have at least 60% polyester)  and it gets the trick done. I heard polyester has sweat wicking properties, so that's what you should look for.  Go to your local Target and get some made by Champion or go for Under Armor for usually $5-$10 more; remember to check the neck tags for materials used.

its all preference. I usually just wear a t shirt and 2 sweatshirts if its really cold and it works fine.
