Just looking for some input on a new lid for riding. I currently have a R.E.D. helmet that is probably 3-5 years old and works fine, but it isn't too comfortable on cold days (can't fit a beanie under it very well). so I figured this year might be time to update the helmet.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a comfortable helmet? I haven't really been keeping up with the helmet tech as of late, but ideally I'd like to find something that fits my head well, has maybe a removable liner/knit hat inside it, and has audio.  Looking at either a RED again, or possibly a Bern.

I just replaced my Giro G-10 with a Smith Variant Brim. I haven't even used the new one yet, but here's what I thought of the G-10 ---- I only replaced it because it's taken a few too many hits and has some dents and dings that concern me. The upsides of this helmet are its comfort and warmth...most days I had to keep the vents all the way open because it was too warm-I don't wear a beanie underneath and wouldn't recommend it. It was very comfortable and lightweight...I didn't know I was wearing a helmet after just a day or two. It does have a bit of that bubble look to it, but I really didn't/don't care about looks on the slopes. I would have bought another one had I not found the Smith at 50% off last spring.

^^^ I too just replaced my Giro G-10 after it too a few too many hits/dents (I replaced it was a Giro Omen with Audio Kit that I got at backcountryoutlet.com for 70% off). I found my helmet comfortable and warm (with earflaps) and I've worn it without the earflaps and the vents open in the summer at Mt. Hood. Previously I had two RED helmets from 1997-2000 and 2000-2005.

I would never recommend have a helmet that fits loose enough to fit a regular beanie under it (too lose and you lose a lot of the protection a helmet provides in the first place). Most helmets A thin skull cap or a balaclava.

the bern hard hats are really warm and have almost a beanie inside them, depends on what one you get. it is removeable and you can get them with headphones built in them :)
