i try to go to the gym at least four times a week even if it is only for a 1 mile run on the treadmill to keep in shape especially fo the season. how many times do you go to the gym a week?

Never. Because I am lazy. I do, however, walk or bike to work every day.. it's like 2km each way or something. Plus then I usually walk pretty far in the evenings and on weekends. And I sail.

Basically.. I hate the gym but I try to be active in other ways. Not just for snowboarding, but also because I don't want to be a fat ass.

Buy stuff I made because I'm awesome!

Whenever I feel fat. Even when I paid for a gym membership I hardly ever went. Its just not something I overly enjoy doing often, I will go with the right motivation or with company, but otherwise, I rather sleep.

i go through spurts where i'll exercise all the time... that will last about 2 weeks... then i order pizza and go drink 10 pints.  not so healthy.

i don't like the whole gym atmosphere.  i was a member at one but that was for the pool... i swam laps and never stepped foot in the actual 'gym' part.

I go to the gym to lift weights sometimes, but usually I go on a 2 mile run every other day and on the way I have marked places where I do push ups and pull ups, blah blah blah.
Its you that has what I need, young squire.

i just skate and ride my fixie. Other than that I hate gym type exercising. As long as my weight stays around 120 i'll be good.

gym? what's that?

once upon a time i was in university and it was $10 to get a gym membership for the entire year... so i did... and i would go lift weights, run on the treadmill, then swim a bit to cool down. i actually kinda liked it. but now that i don't go to school any more, gym memberships are ridiculously expensive and so i don't bother.

i go mountain biking instead. or jogging. or play ultimate frisbee. like alison, anything outdoors to keep me in reasonably non-fat-ass shape.

I got all my equipment at home, DB's,Squat Rack,Bench,Treadmill. No need to go to the gym but I exercise on avg around 4 to 5 times a week. 3 lifting days and 1 or 2 cardio days, I'm trying to bulk though so I keep the cardio to a minimum.

GYM?!?!?!?!?!  WTF is that?

Seriously, I only use the gym to build muscle strength when I am seriously out of shape.  Not that I am an Olympic athlete or anything....

I like to bike, disc golf, swim, etc.  These keep me outside and active, plus work MUCH better to crosstrain than simply running on a treadmill.  Try playing disc golf at night...you quickly learn how to catch your blance when you trip over things :)

As for frequency, I discgolf a minimum of 5 courses per week, sometimes 4 courses in a day.  Average walking distance is over a mile per course (just played Highbridge Gold last weekend, and the tee-to-pin length is near 2 miles).  Other activities are sprinkled intermittently lately as I am finishing up buying a house, plus getting out of a divorce.

My point: get outside and enjoy doing more activities, not simply spending $20/month to run on a treadmill.  You will enjoy yourself more, plus cross-training will give you better results.

Ride now, work later!
All work and no play is totally missing the point.

I get my exercise outdoors.
Between hiking, camping, and biking (to work/around town and recreationally MT biking) I get plenty...throw in Ultimate Frisbee (and practice for it as well as conditioning work outs for it) and I'm doing fine. Back when I lived back east and worked for a big corporation...I used their gym for the usual stuff...but over all...I hate them...I'd rather breath fresh air outside as I huff and puff.

i try to put at least 50 miles a week on my mountain bike. And i have p-90x which im starting on the first. And in all honesty, the perfect pushup works pretty damn well. Fuck gym memberships.

ultimate is good exercise, but i have no idea why its suddenly so big.. and i have to say, the people that play in my league are some uncoordinated people.

oh, also... its really hot out... i can't stand exercising in such humid weather... now i understand why some people go to gyms... oh, and girls in little outfits... i understand that part of going too.

It's been 'big' for awhile...especially among colleges...plus there's been a push for raising the youngin' on it so I'm guessing you're seeing the fruits of that to some degree...lot's of youth programs started 10 years ago or so...so now you're seeing them as 'adults' is my guess. And yes...Ultimate has a way of attracting the geeks to some degree...never really figured out why...but they're certainly there. Just like there's certainly some incredible athletes playing the game as well.

I just started P90-x the other day... its pretty intense.

I hurt my shoulder last year, so Ive been out of the gym for about 13 months... just getting back in shape now. Before that Id go at least 6 times a week, plus hockey twice a week. Ugh... I need to get in shape for this season....
