Am looking at getting a new board, bataleon is option number one due to price, but skate banana is up there.

I have heard, because of the rocker on skate banana, you can actually ride shorter in pow. Is this the same as TBT?
I talked to someone in a shop, but they really didn't fill me with confidence about the fact that it should be the same.

I have a 152 palmer at the moment with a wide centered stance and have trouble on powder days (yeah and we only get 30cm or so max). Setting my stance back just isn't worth it because the powder gets slayed well before noon, and it's just super uncomfortable to ride with my stance set back, not to mention I will often make a run or two through the park as half the bloody lower mountain is groomed anyway. I don't want to go longer because of park, and having two boards doesn't work either.

I am 60kg, so was wondering if TBT works in this similar way, would I be sweet with an Airobic, or Evil Twin 151?
How much shorter can I go with either TBT or skate banana?

Also, TBT vs Skate Banana for park? I always hear from owners that the rocker is no problem on jibs, but I can't help feel that it would be far less stable than a board with a flat center/base.

Oh shit really? Honestly? You're a fucking genius man.

And here I was, silly old me, comparing two boards that I thought were exactly the same!

Twat.

TBT doesn't really help that much with floating in pow. It mostly just gives you that extra forgiveness on rails and jumps similar to banana camber.

I rode all bataleon this year and I rode banana a few days this year also. They rode totally different. Banana has a lot more float, easier to press and butter, a little less stable on kickers, pretty good edge hold. TBT was super smooth on rails and just riding anywhere it seemed, less float, super stable, lots of pop, also good edge hold.

Cheers bro.

I was told in store that because TBT had the extra flat bits, it meant there was more surface area on the snow/powder so it should be the same, but had doubts as I thought it was more to do with the rocker.

Such a bummer too. Really want to support Bataleon, and their boards are cheaper than the skate banana, but would really like a board I can take in park and powder. Too bad about their designs too, I've never seen a Banana board without yellow.

a good bet would be something with k2's AT rocker (turbo dream) or a direct variant

you'll want to size up a bit with this type of rocker since the contact points when flat are just outside the inserts

another option for park & optimal powder would be burton's v-rocker (hero) offerings (although it's more af a U than a V)

Nice bro, didn't even realise they were making that stuff at k2! I did look at them last year, to do with their 'effective edge'. Does the longer effective edge help in powder, or is that generally a groomer, hard pack thing? If yeah, then would the 50 Jibpan be sweet?

Now, they don't make the turbo dream in anything less than a 56 which sucks. But, then, I am riding a 52, so even with the rocker, even though it is a smaller rocker on the 152, or even 48 WWW would that work? I know it's not optimal, but I mean, it does have some rocker, which my board doesn't, and it's a step in the direction of having a board that I could use in both park and powder right?

Oh, and how long have k2 been making rocker boards? Not real into getting a 2010 model if they have got some for 09 and 08. Gotta save what I can.

Cheers.

a turbo dream 156 is going to ride more like a ~152 (since you size up with their AT and Gyrator rocker)

k2's jib rocker (www rocker, 2010 parkstar, 2010 jibpan) is barely anything - 6mm max and the rockered area is far from the inserts (i think this part changes for 2010, but don't quote me on that) - basically more for reducing catches than anything else

(AT rocker is 7mm minimum and starts just outside the inserts)

also, the www is shit for anything other than rails/etc

reverse camber has actually been around for a long time - somehow it was nothing more than a niche until recently

and remember that just like on regular resort runs, different rocker types will each perform differently in powder

the opposite of float is submarine, and just like a submarine, weight will sink
rocker area outside the inserts = less weight on the tips = more float (tip heights and flex and board shapes also come into play)

agreed that bataleons are only slightly better than regular cambered boards in really deep pow.  Rocker would be best in that area

...however, for everything else, I'd rather ride TBT.  So, it just depends on how much pow you think your going to be riding and how deep you think it's going to be
Trust in TBT

Cheers all.

Just saw Ride now have the "lowrise" and "Highrise". Are there many big differences between everyones rockers? I get the feeling libtech have the top quality rocker with the skate banana the way everyone raves about it.
I saw on a local forum, that "someone" (yeah obviously a ride spokesman) stated the "crush" with the lowrise rocker is a great jibstick and the rocker will help keep it floating in pow.

Also, can someone let me know about the "effective edge" whether I should be considering that when looking at riding my board in pow?

Thought they were pretty similar.

Thoughts on the www Rocker vs the Ride Crush then? For both park and powder.

The www has 2cm more effective edge than the Crush, and I can also get it $100 bucks cheaper. It also has a 3degree bevel on it already, where as I can't find about the Crush having one so I would have to get it done myself for extra.

As I understand it Ride boards will have more pop.
