I am a new rider and I'm looking to buy a board. I want to get a good board that I can cruise down the mountain and continue to get more comfortable with speed as I transition down blues and greens. I've been told to look at the Burton Hero, Custom, and Supermodel. I'm going to go with a 158. Any Advice?

Height 5'9
Weight 165

Thanks.

whew. a lot to swallow but here goes -

there are few things to consider when buying a board....most important being:
1. height and weight and foot size (no idea how tall 1.65 meters is)
2. how often you ride per season (1 day, 10 days, 100 days - me)
3. what type of terrain you ride and where you live - akia what kind of snow you receive and how much

general rule of thumb for size is neck to eyes for size - most say chin, but it depends what you're doing with it.

foot size, i say only if you have huge feet. i have big (not huge) feet, and used to ride a wide board - i say size 12 or bigger feet need a wide board, nothing else.

if you dont ride a lot in a season (and only have one setup), look into a softer board to play around on and get used to.
rome agent, artifact, k2 www are fun boards, lib tech sk8 banana. i recommend mid to high end boards because more often than not, they're worth the money you spend.

more in a season, get something with medium to stiff flex. capita stairmaster, most forum boards....check the flex. soft = rails, boxes. stiff - deeper powder (if u get it), big jumps - need stability in the air and on landings if you hit jumps.

most of the boards i listed i have bought myself....ive ridden for 14 years and im 22. i recommend (if you have the means) getting 2 setups - one stiffer and one softer, then you can use one for whatever you plan on riding!

i am 5 foot 9 inches, 155 pounds, and my 2 setups are as follows:

(soft) - 156 rome artifact, rome targas as binders

(stiff) - 156 capita indoor survival, union data binders

oh and get yourself some 32 boots....they have moldable footbeds that just....rock.
and the new ones have STI foam soles that make them as light as tennershoes.

Do not ever give advice if you follow this as a rule.  What's he going to do eat the damn thing how does your height effect anything other than stance width.
f*ck the rest die like the Best!

Are you retarded? What the fuck do you think snowboards are measured in? Inches? Feet?
Height doesn´t mean dick on snowboards - height has some merit when setting the DIN release settings on alpine ski bindings (due to leverage amongst other things), but not in any way, what so ever on a snowboard. We don´t have releasable bindings (for the most part - there are probably some alpine carver snowboarders out there with some tricked out release), and the only thing we really have to worry about when talking length is what stance width to choose and go by - but this is also something that the rider needs to figure out for himself.

Supporting the suggestion that you should never give advice on snowboards. And read up on the metric system, please.

The original poster here has to try out tons of boots to find a nice, snug fit. Never mind brand names.

snowboards are determined by height

you just have to go with something between the floor and the ceiling

Etiquette? Is that some sort of toilet paper?
