First he backpedals on his comments about the human blob Rush Limbaugh, now this?

Michael Steele says he wants to get the youth more interested in the Republican party? Sticking to the "old white guys interests" formula of the last 8 years isn't going to make that happen.

Former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, one of Steele's rivals for the RNC chair, told the conservative Web site Townhall.com on Thursday that Steele needs to "re-read the Bible, the U.S. Constitution, and the 2008 GOP platform."

This quote really bothers me... why does he have to re-read the Bible. Why does the right continue to bring the fuckin' Bible in to politics and then talk about upholding the constitution? Isn't there a separation of church and state.

I'm not a fan of Steele. And the only reason he is where he is, is because the republicans are trying to be one uppers. It's a lame attempt by the right. I'd rather see them restructure their way of thinking then try to slap Steele and Jindal in the forefront while they play puppet master.

I dont believe that reads "re-read the bible and conjoin it with the constitution"............... All the anti christians bullshit is seriously old. Just because a man believes in God doesnt make him lesser than you. It doesnt mak you more intelligent or enlightened than him. Just because someone has different convictions that DO NOT harm you doesnt mean that they can not follow them or derive their morals from them.

Fuckin athiesm into politics.....fuckin gnostism into politics......fuckin catholicism into politics.....fuckin koran into politics.......fuckin torah into politics.......fuckin darwinism into politics....GET THE HELL OVER IT. And im talking in general by the way.

I dont like the fact that schools now days completely dismiss the bible. I dont like the fact that children are force fed evolution even though their parents may not believe that, but the christians dont have a damn choice, they are told to put up with it and shut up. God forbid kids gather together and pray at school. God forbid they do it aroudn the flag pole on certain days for remembrance. They are causing so much harm. God forbid people teach their children the ten commandments....you know, dont murder, dont steal, dont cheat on your wife, you know all of those horrible morals. How about all you people start walkin your talk and have a little respect and tolerance for those who have a different set of beliefs.  After all, that is what all you liberal tree huggin hippy enlightened mother fuckers preach right? Oh wait...........................................YAY FOR CHANGE!!!

this thread isn;t about religion in politics, it's about michael steele and his backpedalling...and what his "leadership" will mean for the GOP now that they're in the political wilderness.

Agreed, but that quote was in your atricle... and it's odd.

Lakia, you're so full of shit it's incredible. Nowhere have I ever said agnostics and atheists are better, that's your own insecurities screaming out. I didn't say I was more enlightened or intelligent. I said I don't like the quote. Politics and religion don't belong together. That quote told the dude to re-read the bible... for what, so he can be a good Christian so he can make better decisions when considering what laws to make? Religion has NO place when making laws or teaching kids. You want to teach religion, do it on YOUR time and YOUR dollar, not mine. I don't like the fact that Obama had to ASSURE people he was a good Christian. That's bullshit.

You're saying that someone using religion to derive their morals doesn't harm me. And you're correct. However, someone using morals derived from religion to make laws DOES harm and effect me.

OH, and Lakia, your stupid ass 10 commandments... your morals you need the fear of God to follow. I follow those morals without the fear of burning in hell. I don't need a bible, I don't need prayer, I don't need a savior. I'm that way on my own, WITHOUT that shit. So who's the better, more moral person. The one who does it out of fear, or does it out of the goodness of their being. That's exactly why I hate religious zealots. Go pray around a flag pole in Spokane and keep your bible shit out of politics.

As for Steele backpedaling, what do you expect HP? I'm not his biggest fan, but really, what do you expect. Look at the party he's aligning with. That's all they do.

I dont like the fact that you are the close minded one after how i read all these things about being educated and enlightened all of you liberals are. Youre shut off to everything that you do not agree with that you demonize it and use it as a justification to tear down someones beliefs and make it seem as though they are unfit to lead because they believe in god. You ask me......thats pretty damn bigoted, arrogant, and self righteous. Kind of what people like you claim them to be because they pray.

You're saying that someone using religion to derive their morals doesn't harm me. And you're correct. However, someone using morals derived from religion to make laws DOES harm and effect me.

Funny..............im not a christian, but im also not as arrogant as you to think because i renounced religion that im better and more enlightened and more educated and more fit to lead and make policy because of it. My point is i dont give a damn where your morals come from so long as you are a good person. And you shouldnt give a damn either.

You have the freedom OF religion, anyone you want, even the religion of "ME" as you are so apparently devout to. But you do not have freedom FROM it. And if something helps someone be a better more moral person, you shouldnt have an issue with that.

You want equality? Start acting and stop preaching you charlatan. DO AS I SAY. NOT AS I DO. Its what is to be expected from both dems and reps. You want to be an american that gives a damn and wants this country to start going in better directions. Fuck liberalism, fuck conservatism, fuck democrats and republicans, start leading by example, and lead by the constitution, not some twisted agenda from some party.

Stupid ass 10 commandments......yeah..... things like not murdering, stealing, being true to your wife, those things.....pretty stupid. But im sure someone with great morals such as yours even though you dont fear a supernatural being doesnt want anything to do with such beliefs as that because they came from an old book.

Then again im sure youre for the ACLU, an organization who makes sure that court houses in alabama take those stupid 10 commandments down from in front of them, like dont murder or steal. Yet the ACLU defended NAMBLA when a civil case came up when 2 men raped and murdered a 10 year old boy in Cambridge named Jeffery Curley. One of the men found material advocating such actions on the NAMBLA website when he visited the NAMBLA website on a computer at a public library. AND somehow this seemingly indefensible and horrible crime promoted by NAMBLA was defended free of charge by the ACLU.

Does that sound like a Civil Liberty? The right to rape and murder young children? These are same people who wanted a religious document saying THOU SHALL NOT MURDER taken down from in front of a court house, people like YOU because its a religious document, and god forbid a christian one. Do you see a problem there? Or is it ok for such things to be promoted and defended because it didnt come from the bible? If you think that your moral compass is so fucked up you have no room to say a damn word about morals and what makes yours better.

Are your morals really better because you dont believe in god even though from what YOU said they coincide with people who do? Thats pretty ignorant, hypocritical, and damn self righteous there friend. I expected you to have more character.

as much as i respect your opinions lakia... i have to agree that this sounds like too much religion and state togetherness for me.

the ten commandments talk... if you need a couple magic tablets to tell you not to kill people, plus, mention that those tablets are the only reason you haven't killed anyone... come on now.  the ten commandments are rules set out that have mirror images in every religion, be them crazy cults or the worlds largest.

you can't have it both ways lakia... you mention the nambla stuff... i'm pretty sure no one is going to defend these guys, but you have to look at what you are saying.  basically that anyone going against the ten rules should be punished severely no matter what loopholes are in the laws, right?  so what?... a guy who has a crush on his neighbors wife should be put in jail or killed?  there are no real degrees of sin, just sin.  you can't pick and choose that stuff, so i think its best to keep it all separate.

anyways, steele... right... i've been following this from the outskirts...  how do you like his newest point?  that abortion is an individual choice?  haha!  i don't think he knows what a republican is... in the same interview he stated that homosexuality was not a conscious decision... wow... i'm sure he'll be taken out with non-confidence soon enough.

A.  Yeah, Mr. Steele was a mistake.  "Look, we have a black guy, too...."

B.  Seperation of church and state simply means the gov't can't be run by any church or religion in general, religious leaders as individuals may hold office but must serve the people not their church....duh  lol.

C.  I think most religions (more or less) follow their version of the 'ten commandments', like tooscoops said.

D.  Republicans should be stoning Mr. Steele to death (but not until I blow this whistle), but no they should be throwing stones in his direction.

E.  Most of the people I talk to at work that voted for B.O. are talking about things they'd like to see happen that would normally come out of a republicans mouth.....that tells me that the republican party leadership is lost and doesn't know how to get their real message out.  Too bad for them that I'm leaning more and more towards the Libertarians.

F.  Too bad for me that this country is a long way away from being able to handle a legitimate three party system.

Lakia, you're not understanding what I'm saying. You can be as religious as you want... just don't let YOUR religion determine OUR laws. That's the idea behind separation of church and state. So those politicians that are Christian, that isn't a big deal. But when they start trying to make laws based on Christian rules, that's bullshit. Just as it would be if it was another religion.
