Right first off Im a new guy from sunny.... england so hi everyone!

Right im sick of england and need to get out so im planning on doing 09/2010 season in fernie, ive alrady booked a place to stay so its definately happening, cant wait to quit my job and leave.

Thing is im planning on being there 5 months and not working! bit stupid i know but i need a break from crappy office work.

Im planning on having £1600 or at todays rates $2859CAD  that works out at about $142CAD a week is that enough to live off?? ive never been to canada so dont know the cost of living but il be needing all food ill be eating in mostly and not wasting money on restaraunt/bar food although wouldnt mind eating out a few times a month, also im gonna want to go out drinking a couple of nights a month, ive grown out of mega partying everynight which is pretty sh*t but still like going out meeting people and stuff.

So any money saving tips when im out there and any idea if ill survive the whole 5 months without starving to death. ?

that might be tight, im not sure what rent will be or if you have that sorted out yet but count on 300-500 a month. your also going to probably want a pass for the mountain and transportation there again not sure what a bus ticket or pass costs but i wouldn't doubt a pass will be around 800, bus maybe 5 to 10 everytime unless you can bum rides or live on the hill.  booze in bc is expensive, you could easily blow through your 142 allowance in one night of drunkin mayhem. sorry if i sound like a downer

Agreed..

Try to get a PT job that will give you a pass or at least a discount. I see people hitching to the mountain at Fernie all the time, it's pretty close to downtown so that shouldn't be a big issue.

Maybe go for 4 months opposed to 5? Dec/Jan/Feb/Mar are the only months good for riding for the most part.

i just lived in fernie for 4 months without working, im currently sitting in algary airport waiting for my flight home. i lived off $100 a week easy, but i had rent money separate. just didn't buy food i don't eat pretty much, hitched bak from the hil everyday, got lifts where i could. didn't eat lunch on the hill, not until the last few weeks anyway.

it is a bit tight but doable. and $2 taco night on tuesday at edge of the world!
