I don't know why I keep going back. Oh, yes I do; a friend with a house nearby and another with a condo on Sachem trail, plus cheap lift tickets from the ski club. But every time I go, I swear I'll never go back. I think this weekend clinched it.
While I acknowledge it might just be boredom, I don't really ride there that often so I don't think it's that. It's more the challenge. Or lack of it. The most challenging thing at Okemo are the crowds. I never really felt I got any good runs in this weekend, I was just dodging ducklings, noobs and one-trip-a-year ski-MILFS doing slow, wiiiiiide turns across the entire trail on my way to the next liftline to hell.
And it's always like this. On my only other trip to Okemo this year it was raining/sleeting/snowing on various parts of the mountain throughout the day, and it was still a pain in the ass, just spent all day avoiding people instead of actually riding.
Okemos lift ticket prices are ridiculous (I even had a ski club discount and it was still $49, when most other mountains offer ski club tix for $29-35) and the lifts SUCKED. The lifts -- every one of them -- stopped so often, for so long, that I thought I was Killington!
Riding ANYWHERE is better than riding nowhere, so I'm sure I'll be back at Okemo next year. My friends still have their houses there after all. But I won't like it, dammit.
