I don't know why I keep going back. Oh, yes I do; a friend with a house nearby and another with a condo on Sachem trail, plus cheap lift tickets from the ski club. But every time I go, I swear I'll never go back. I think this weekend clinched it.

While I acknowledge it might just be boredom, I don't really ride there that often so I don't think it's that. It's more the challenge. Or lack of it. The most challenging thing at Okemo are the crowds. I never really felt I got any good runs in this weekend, I was just dodging ducklings, noobs and one-trip-a-year ski-MILFS doing slow, wiiiiiide turns across the entire trail on my way to the next liftline to hell.

And it's always like this. On my only other trip to Okemo this year it was raining/sleeting/snowing on various parts of the mountain throughout the day, and it was still a pain in the ass, just spent all day avoiding people instead of actually riding.

Okemos lift ticket prices are ridiculous (I even had a ski club discount and it was still $49, when most other mountains offer ski club tix for $29-35) and the lifts SUCKED. The lifts -- every one of them -- stopped so often, for so long, that I thought I was Killington!

Riding ANYWHERE is better than riding nowhere, so I'm sure I'll be back at Okemo next year. My friends still have their houses there after all. But I won't like it, dammit.

Upper Vermont is where it's at. Burke is awesome...very steep, absolutely no crowds. Bolton Valley is another low-key place with some fun terrain and nice trail layout. Stowe is sick, probably my favorite because of it's long runs and serious steepage, but it's way spendy. Of course, for the "out West" experience, there is Jay Peak, but it's like going to a whole other country.

I'm kinda done with Stratton, too. A lot like Okemo crowd-wise, except they're snottier people. Stratton is good if Sunbowl is open, because you can park right at the lift and not have to take a shuttle bus or walk for miles. Otherwise, it's pretty similar to the Okemo experience.

I have had that Sunapee, Okemo, Stratton pass for the last 4 years. 3 mountains that cose to me for under 6 bills is a deal......that being said reluctantly I have decided that I will renew for year 5. According to my log, of my 184 days on snow (all over the place), I have been to Mt. Sunapee 72 days, Okemo 59 days, and Stratton 11 days since December 2005. Think I need a change of venue? I think I may have burnt myself out of my home mountain is why I am totally understanding what Karma is saying. Atthe same time, I like the fact tat my mountain is is under 70 minutes away. If I had a place to stay around like stowe or something, I would switch to tha pass.If I had a place to stay on Okemo thst would pacify me a lil longer. I heard the crowd situation at Loon/Waterville isnt any better.
