We got over 7 ft of snow this week, 72 inches of it came in 48 hours.  Tuesday night was the biggest night... rode wednesday with a friend and it was the deepest powder I've ever ridden and probably the most intense day on a snowboard ever.... no time for pictures that day.  Snowed a couple more inches wed. night, these are from Thursday.  Everybody went back to work and there was nobody on the mountain.  I felt like I was in a dream... blue skies, limitless powder and no lift lines.  I hope to ride for another 40 years, but I don't see how this day could ever be topped.  So here are a few pictures... no action shots or anything, but you get the idea of what kind of day it was.

This is normally the most crowded run on the mountain

Where my friend and I had to climb out the previous day... thought we could make it to the steeper part but thought wrong

At my place on Tuesday night, about 6500 ft. There was no snow on the ground before this due to heavy rain on Monday.

WOW, fully submerged tree trunks and I get a little queasy...in a good way.  Not many people believe me when I say we get bottomless days, but this may be a good example.  Was the powder so fluffy you just basically just dropped to the bottom?... or was is firm enough to be able to skim the top layer?

yeah, it was pretty badass. They had the backside closed for a few days, and opened it on the 5th.

I dont have my camera up and going yet, I need a CF card, but I took a picture from the lift with my phone. It actually wasnt that overcast, it was just the shade from the trees.
And remember...all this snow is new. It was getting down to bare bones before the storm.

Jesus, are they having to dig out the bottom and top of the lifts yet?  Ridiculous amount of snow coming down out there.  Seems like every 3-4 years the Pacific moisture maker decides to just barf on Cali for a couple of months.

not bad pics for a phone.

yeah, things have been strange a little further south - long hot spells followed by larger than average, extra fluffy dumps (from the perspective of a 3 year snowboarding career).

kiwisnowman: Yes, the safty bar was probably down. "Safty First" as they all say. I just laugh. People have been riding chairlifts for decades without the bars, and really the only time people fall is when they are reaching down without hanging on. Yes it was getting pretty thin out there.
Im sorry you didnt get a chance to give me a call too. But, I will be here if you ever come to Tahoe again. I think I am going to be here for a long time. This lifestyle here is alot of fun, even more fun than the other resort town I lived in.

snurfer: we have been getting the same. I have been riding my motorcycle to the resorts lately, and before this last dump we had. But it has been feeling pretty warm here again. And yeah, it is a strange year. I would say it is better than last year, last year wasnt that great, but it has definitely been a strange year.

I was at Heavenly that day.. epic to say the least.. drank all night Tuesday in the hot tub.. watching the 48" pile up.. it was one of the best nights I've had in a long time. It was deep.. almost too deep! I had a noob with me so I had to take it easy... Gun Barrel was fun at the end of the day..

Man, I'm jealous. Everytime I goto snow.com to check the snow reports heavenly is always reporting good snow while here in CO it just sucks. We haven't hardly got any snowfall this March and it's slushville up on the hill. I was hoping for at least a few Powder days this March. Oh well, I did get some decent fresh at Vail a few weeks back. I'd like to try Heavenly some time since I'm pretty sure my pass is good for there. Looks like a fun mountain.

It isnt that great of a mountain. Firebreak is the only run on it worth anything. Killbrew is alright too, but it gets tracked out pretty fast. Definitely not the best resort to be at when there is powder.

And we've had plenty of powder days and snowfall up until March.  Cali was having a pretty bad season up until this storm hit.  California riders were overdue for this.
