Hey guys,

I need some help. I lost my job recently, and I'm really considering moving out to Whistler for the 09/10 winter season.  I think it'd be a great opportunity to enjoy Whistler and at the same time enjoy the once in a lifetime experience of the winter Olympics at home.

I'm looking for a place to stay and a part-time job, preferably on the resort so I can get a season pass! I might be heading out west with 1 other friend. Do you guys have any pointers? where to look for a place to stay> where to stay? when to apply for a job? etc, etc, etc.

THANKS!

I might drive my car out there from Toronto if it's worth it.

no one is hiring right now, and a lot of the people that were fired due to the 'resesion' are the first ones who will be rehired this summer/fall.

Housing is supid and everyone i know is getting kicked out of their houses or cannot find a place that will let them sign a lease through the olympics.

you can live in squamish or pemberton if you have your car... but then again no one knows if we will be able to use the roads during hte olympics.

i suggest looking at www.piquenewsmagazine.com or whatever it is for jobs and housing.

good luck!

edit: sorry this sounds so grumpy, but this whole olympics thing is getting crazy.... how ar eyou going to host the olympics if all the workers have to leave because they have no houses????? good luck VANOC!

Volunteers are cheaper than paid workers.
Etiquette? Is that some sort of toilet paper?
Ha! Ha! I'm on Twitter!

Grr Olympics.
I've been going back and forth on whether I want to make my move out there this summer just because of that headache. Initially I was thinking it would be good as there is more demand for building and thus more trade workers are needed, but now I'm thinking housing is going to be a BITCH and from january to late march of 2010 it's going to be so pathetically loaded with people..

It may just be smarter to bypass the olympics and head out after march. By then everyone is heading home, a lot of housing will go back on the market, and jop opportunities will probably open.

I mean, from vancouver to whistler is really going to be hell..

..
Oh noes, I deleted my sig
..damn

honestly if your looking to move and ride only one season, next season is not the year to do that in whistler. housing is going to be a nightmare, its already hard to find places in whistler, the olympic is going to be impossible and expensive. vancouver mountains will be even more fucked then whistler as a lot of the snowboard/ skiing events are being held there. i would check out banff, revelstoke, kickinghorse, fernie, big white/kelowna can be a fun area to live. vancouver area for snowboarding is going to be fucked for the 09/10 season.

agreed.....

if your heart is set on whistler, wait until the year after!  that's when it'll be great to be here... as long as there is snow!

haha... man i was in whistler in dec... it was brutal, there was more snow in ontario!

ya, i thought about your advice guys... it makes a lot of sense.

I've been to Fernie and I just love the bowls there! I'll definitely consider moving to a smaller resort! but could it get boring being in such a small town for 4 months?
