I'm pretty tough on my bindings, I really crank them tight.  I've broken my fair share of ratchet levers, and stripped alot of ladders.

Does anyone know who makes the toughest binding out there?    Basically, I'm looking for something bomb proof.

If it makes a difference I ride mostly park, but prefer stiffer freeride bindings.

For strongest baseplate and highback... try Catek 2 Freerides (http://catek.com/FR2-soft-binding.htm). However I think the rachets are regular rachets and are not particularly tough.

If you bough a decent binding that fits you boot properly - there is *never* a need to tighten your straps to the point of repeatedlystripping the ladders... a lot of snowboarders (myself included) like to crank down their bindings just a little bit more before hitting a big jump... but it's pure psychological. After destroying a couple of ratchets and ladders, I just learned to get over my fear and stop tightening my straps like a security blanket.

I was cranking the hell out of mine too, because my boots had packed out and were sloppy....not really sure if it really even helped.

Does not... if you boots are loose and fit poorly... tightening the bindings psychologically feels better, but doesn't actually help. That's why you never need to crank you bindings down so tight.

Totally agree, you can't make you boots fit properly by cranking you straps, makes no sense. Laces are to tighten you feet into your boots and straps are to fasten you boots into you bindings, tight is tight no need to crank it.
Life is hard, thank god powder isn't :-)
