I am riding on a LTD board (beginner) and bindings that I got for cheap back in the day, with size 9 salomon dialogues.  My bindings are complete shit, my back foot when im riding regular always moves around, I once wiped out and the foot ended up almost sideways in the binding.  :|

I heard that the Romes fit tight, and that I should go for the L/XL bindings for the Salomons.  I want to just ride all around, learn how to do kickers and some rails.  Im leaning more towards the Rome 390's over the Targas because they are more forgiving as I have read on here.

I visited a local shop and the guy didn't have Romes but he recommended Salomons because they fit well with a Salomon boot, something along the lines of Salomon Chief?  I want my bindings to be versetile because next season I want to try Nitro boots as I hear they fit narrow ankles well, I still get some minor heel lift in my dialogues.

yeah, Salomon has their "key connection" system which supposedly matches all their boots with all their bindings.  They make quality boots and equally as good bindings, but it looked like there was too much extra room on the sides of their large bindings for my 10.5 salomon boots

I rode these same boots in my rome 390 L/XL all last year and they fit perfectly, better than the salomon bindings

hey man,
sounds like we have the same boots! mighty fine if i do say so myself!

anyway, i ditched the 09 390's this past week and just picked up a pair of salomon chiefs! no joke hahah
i had a couple of problems with my 390's and just got really stressed with them
by the way, i have the Medium chiefs, and they fit my boot nice and snug. i think LG would be way to big.

i will let you know how they are tomorrow night, im taking them out for the first time tomorrow

Ordered the 390's because everyone says they fit snug, and also because of the warranty and the customizability.  They should be here on tuesday.  Can I ask why you ditched the 390's?  I read about the strap and ladder problems, also the springs but I think that stuff happens to any binding.

Yep those problems can be had with any binding. I have no problems out of my 390's. The one thing that I have found that I don't care for is how the forward lean is adjusted. If you need or want to adjust it while riding your screwed.

...and there just isn't much forward lean to be had on 390s anyway.  I have mine maxed out and they're fine for me.  Rode mine today with my Salomons - good combo.

dont even get me started about this years 390's

i just sold them, thank god. nothing but problems in my opinion. the hardware ALWAYS came loose. the ankle strap ALWAYS can loost half way down the run, and when i got to tighten them, the ratchet is stuck in that damn loop that they think is supposed to be a helpful feature? maybe if they were farther away from the ratched, but it makes it unaccesable.

My problem with my 390s is that the toe ramp is always moving on my back foot. This is on the 06/07 pair. Tried several things and havent been able to fix it.

Ruuski - I think you'll be happy with the 390s.  I've been riding mine for almost 3 seasons (I have the 06/07 model).  I just had my first issue with them - the ratchet popped a spring.  I sent Rome a quick note and got a replacement ratchet 4 days later.  Otherwise, they've been a great binding.
I definitely don't know what I am talking about

Just got them and setting them up. This is my first binding I'm actually customizing so any tips would be welcome.  Boots are size 9 dialogue, stance is 15/-15.  I set the boot centering for a size 9/10.  The highback rotations both at 4 degrees (is this good for 15/-15 stance?), forward lean in the middle position (seems to fit to the boot best).  Toe strap forward position.  Ankle strap medium position.

Gonna take them out Thursday.

How tight should I screw the bindings to the board? With the pad at the bottom it seems it will never be fully 100% tight, and I don't want to overtighten it.

Strapped in it feels like me and my board are one, a HUGE difference over the shitty beginner LTD bindings i had.

I don't rotate my highbacks at all, cause didn't feel like helped performance...just feels strange.

At home, screw the bindings down to the board only as tight as you can with just one hand on the screwdriver (make sure you're using a really big screwdriver so you don't strip the screw holes).  Then, after your first run down the mountain, the metal will shrink and you'll be able to tighten them a tiny bit more with one hand.  That's it...you probably won't need to touch the baseplate screws again until you decide to take them off (I don't even mess with them during waxing anymore).  You can check the screws every once in a while just to make sure, but check on the cold mountain, right after a couple of runs.

just be careful how you rotate them.  i followed the diagram that came with the bindings and the plastic stuck out a little.  enough for it to rub a hole into the side of my boot.  i ended up sticking the screw in the further hole and it made the end of the highback go flush with the baseplate so that it didn't stick out.  just a tip for you in case you run into the same issue i had.

Noticed the screw for the highback rotation cuts into the highback itself, so I loosened it a little, thus it doesnt stick out as much.    Otherwise great bindings, only thing I find annoying is the highback adjustment is really easy to knock out of place, any ideas on how to prevent this (other then try to avoid hitting it).

Also I found that at high speeds over bumpy slopes if my boots and bindings are loose I feel really unstable.  Tight boots and bindings I slice through that like Henckels, but it feels really wierd olling and going off kickers, its like I dont even feel the kicker.  Anyway to find a medium?

i have rome targas and they are a good binding, i dont like the strap construction because of those little shit ones that attatch the ratchet strap but i have had no problems so far. they do adjust very well and very easy but there isnt alot of forward lean on them, the adjuster on the back of the highback came loose once when i crashed but i super glued them down because i know i wont be backing off the forward lean anyway. rome sent me out a replacement strap set of 8 of each strap in white and in black so i have tons of replacements if i break anything. i have been using ride bindings for years and i have nothing bad to say about them, as long as you get ones high on the scale, and i can see myself going back to ride in a year or 2, i am not amazed at the targas but they get the job done and a binding is a binding as long as you can make it fit good around your boot and they dont break.

just rode my 09 targa for the first time and, yeah, the forward lean adjustment is the worst I've ever seen: cheap as hell and just a pretty lousy design in the real world (good on paper, I'm sure).  It comes loose and you end up with no lean at all...unless you carry around a hex wrench

Also, don't know why Rome cant add a couple more notches of lean , especially considering their claim to be the most adjustable binding on the market.  Straight leg freeriding is sketchy
