Is it just me, or are snowboard movies having a lot more back country scenes than normal lately? Like take Burton's "It's always snowing somewhere" movie for example. Did anyone else think they had a little too much back country?

Hell fucking no.

Backcountry never gets old. You can hit the same kicker a hundred times and it will always be an epic shot.

Rails get old. Pipe gets old. Fresh pow.. can't beat it. Backcountry is unpredictable. Even with man-made kickers, the landings are always different. Many times now you see them throwing in tree-sessions as well, where the pros will drop a tree-line or jib fallen trees.

Ha! If only backcountry was boring... what would people do with themselves.

Saw part of a ski video on the tv at our resort and the skier was riding down some chute that was about 25ft wide and no steeper than what everyone else rides.  Took the guy 3 minutes to get down about 50 feet.  Started to laugh like crazy because so many people that are in videos would be bombing down that doing nice graceful turns, and then there's this idiot.

If you don't like backcountry, you should stay away from Aesthetica.
Etiquette? Is that some sort of toilet paper?

of course it wouldn't be boring to do, but to watch it gets old pretty fast. Maybe its more of a regional thing in the states, because I notice allot of west coast riders love seeing back country, while east coasters love are rails. There are exceptions though, some people like both some hate both it just depends on who you are I guess.

I think you enjoy watching most of what you can relate to.  Most east coast riders only ride rails so I'm sure they love to watch rails.  West coast riders get to ride powder so they love to watch powder.  I love both so I enjoy watching most everything, but after this last trip I've gained a whole new respect for backcountry.

i love movies full of rails but if bc is done well and isn't too repetative its pretty cool. A good mix of both like 50 50 is good for an all around movie IMO

Yea, if it's repetitive... it's going to be boring, whether it's backcountry or street rails. I like a good mix as well.

However, since rails are easier and cheaper to do (less travel and equipment) most movies tend to throw in a lot of boring rails as filler... so usually it's TOO MANY RAILS...

Do you listen to yourself when you speak?

I hate to be the person who says "Once you've seen one rail you've seen them all", because i dont agree with it, but really I think handrails/urban stuff is overplayed. Stuff that doesnt even have a name, is fucking lame in videos. For example, a drop and using a wallride as your landing. Dumb as fuck. There are certain things in videos that get overdone, and become boring. When you can say
"oh that red ledge was in this vid, this vid, that vid and i think in this vid", you know it should be cut out. There are so many rail that are recognizeable, and are put in multiple videos, multiple shots each. and THAT gets boring. I like watching handrails, I do. As long as there is a solid repertoir of tricks being done. not 7 different 270's at the start of your video part, or bs 180 onto every rail whilst wearing tight pants..  Its just so easy to point out how many times youve already seen that same rail in the video, where as with backcountry, its tough. Im not big into lines, but powder jumps are the shit. The most amazing tricks are being done in the backcountry and some people overlook it completely. I have friends who didnt enjoy Thats it Thats all because there wasnt 1 handrail in it... I love it. I was completely entertained for the full 50 minutes, because every trick is so insane! I can agree if you are reffering to powder lines though. I dont like when its a copter cam for like nineteen bagillion yards away and you can see the whole mountain face. I like to be right in there, watching every powder slash, every random method / indy that goes down.  Backcountry's not boring.

Well I just think they need to have an even mix of everything..it might not have been so bad if they would have gone to more spots..but it seemed like they filmed most of the movie in the same area..

I agree that watching 10 7s in a row off of a man made kicker can get rather boring.  But natural rolling, like mueller style never really gets old.

So your saying that riding street, park, and pipe isn't real snowboarding?

when you live in BC canada, its hard to understand why anyone would ever waste their time with street riding. but that's just it... its a matter of perspective. there are people out there that don't live near the backcountry, or don't have easy access to it, and don't understand the appeal because they don't ride it. trust me, if all you jibbers out there lived near the big mountains, and had sleds, you wouldn't bother with a street rail ever again. but its just fine with me if you think its lame. more fresh lines for me:)

I just about spit coffee all over my keyboard...well played sir!

edit: regarding the OP...maybe I'm just out of the loop, but it seems to me that snowboard/ski films are progressively (no pun intended) getting more jib/park/urban heavy all the time...which film companies are going the other way? I know TGR and Matchstick on the ski end of the industry don't offer much of that stuff, but I've yet to run across any snowboard film companies that don't show at least 40% urban/park content.

I think that stuff can be entertaining if done right...as an example, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFXsAH7687s&feature=channel was made by a high school kid and is as good, if not better than anything I've paid studios for.
