Hey I'm trying to strap my black diamond shovel to my back pack because its too huge to put in my pack its the deploy one with the really wide blade, the handle collapses into the size of the blade and theres 4 little holes on each corner of the blade. I want to put cable or rope through each one of the four holes in the shovel on my back pack theres 6 little loops I can put rope or cable through. I just need to be able to get the shovel off quick obviously but I was just seeing if anyone has done anything similar with their shovel and pack or if anyone has ideas Id like to hear them

Oddity

I don't really want to say this, but for carrying your shovel for bc use it should be in your pack.  A dedicated shovel blade pocket is nice but regardless it shouldn't be on the outside of your pack.  As recently as 3-4 years ago packs used to be designed to carry the shovel on the outside.  Now almost all of them have a dedicated internal storage pocket.  The reason is that people were losing their blade and/or handle by just being careless or having it ripped off by getting caught in a slide.  There were a few burials were several members in a party were caught, a few completely buried and a few partially.  Some of those that were partially buried had lost their shovel handles/blades as a result of getting thrashed around by the snow.  Some were unable to dig themselves out and others there were able to extricate themselves were practically useless in the rescue of their other buried buddies.

I certainly wouldn't use bungee cords.

If there is a more pointless place to argue than the web...
I don't know about it.

bungee's? really? They're great for strapping shit on your car in a pinch...not on your back when youre riding. if you need to thread it through the holes, you'd have a hard time with getting it off quickly in an emergency situation. if its strictly for booter use, go for it. If not, drop the 40-50 bucks on a new pack like killclimbz said.
