Myself and buddy are going to this course, we found a cheap motel called the "milestone" for 90$ a night. not too too shabby, but as i remember last year, it feels like a hooker joint, but meh, who dosn't like hookers :)

anyways, who's comming to this event, anyone?
Or anyone going to be at blue?

Hit me up on here, ill check it before i leave :)

ill probbly be teaching at boler or cobble hill in london ontario....
because glen edan is to far from london.... and nothing else around :(

but anyone, i recommend it to anyone, you learn sooooo much, make new friends, and the instructors are mad fun...

like all weekend, i was like ahhh, ohhh, wow, this makes sence, like everything just links together and you understand why your doing it and what for...

i've never token lessons, and i've been boarding for the past 7-8 years or so...but now. my riding improved so much over only 3 days....

like ya i get to teach all the basics and all, but a level 3 instructor was giving me pointers all the time, and giving me critiques isnted of positive thinking ya know cuz i wanted to be pushed...

i ended up passing with " exceeds standerd" :D insted of meets or requires improvments :P
woot woot

im so happy :D

How 'complicated' was it? Not that I have any intentions to go for it anytime soon, but just food for thought. Was it really basic stuff? Or was it actually complex shit that most people would fail?

You are marked in 2 seperate parts, riding and instructing.

For the riding - from the get go you will be observed by your evaluator and given feedback during the day and at the end of the days.  If you never took lessons yourself, you may find you have some bad habits that need to be broken and they will help you get through that.. I found it a humbling but rewarding experience in the end.

As for the teaching, on the first day your evaluator will take you to a beginner hill and take you through the "CASI Beginner Progression" which is just that.. the steps that you will take to teach a beginner from the basics of skating and straight running, to novice turns.  On the 2nd day you will teach one stage of the progression and then again on the 3rd day.  You have to learn to give positive feedback by interpreting your students mistakes... everyone in your group will be riding switch to make it a bit more authentic..

You have to work hard but it's so much fun at the same time!  I think anyone who can put their head to it could pass it... it's just not going to be a breeze...

If you want to know more, just ask!

Yeah.. I'm either going to do it some time this season, or next season for sure. Just gotta see where things end up in the markets.. stupid markets. But yeah.. seems like a good thing to have under your belt.. if nothing else, you usually get a free pass for the hill you teach at (although I've heard from more than one person that if you're there, they make you teach haha)
Buy stuff I made because I'm awesome!

It's such a good experience that I would recommend it to anyone..... even if you have no intentions of teaching!  You can use the progression on yourself to ride switch which makes you realize that it REALLY DOES WORK...

That and once you meet your evaluators they are all super fun and you can tell are loving what they do.... if you're having fun, they're having fun and your success is their success so it's a win-win situation.

At GE you've got to be in uniform to teach, so if you don't have it with you, how could they force you to teach?  :)

Well put...

There is a two part evaluation

Riding - They evaluate your Timing, Flexation, Rotation and the Balance Body Position on the board going true your turns with the flow of consistancy.  - Best way i can put it
   - if you are iffy on your riding or do carry bad habbits, you have till day 3 to improve your riding from what your instructor has thought you. If the instructor does see improvments and is sufficiant and your consistantly doing it
- they'll pass ya
   - if not, if they think your riding needs more improvment, on the 3rd day, they'll make you ride as a group, so they'll have the rookie evaluator going up the hill with ya, and the whole group, just rides down together...then all the instructors are looking from the base, at your riding, and discuse as a group to see if your okay or not, very stressfull  to say the least....

Teaching:

The evaluator will give you the first lesson the first day, or if you had my evaluator, your just going to ride all day, because thats all he wanted to do, is ride lol, it was so much fun :D
The second day was all about teaching for him though, there are 3 phases to teach, and 7 lessons within the bigginers level to teach the bigginers....so all day on the 2ed day was just teaching the class, everyone had their go, till their lesson was 100%.... and like nine.lives said, we were riding switch so the student teacher could help us out on positive pointers to give to try next time down the hill, so it made it more realistic because it seemed like teaching bigginers ya know

for this evaluation, you need to do 2 lessons, like either basic mobility, or sideslipping, or pedelum and the power pedelum or the fall line edge change, or the bigginers turn, the bigginers linked turns...then the novice turns... teach 2 of the 7  ya know....

after all that, they'll give ya your report card etc etc, the certificate, your memeber card.
Plus u get pro deal discounts on aprox 30 diff companies from aprox 30-60% off and you can only buy 2 boards a year at that discount :D

Any Casi course you get, will be rewarding for sure, i recommend any, and im going to try for my level 2 soon sometime after the near year, since around london they are packed with snowboard level 1's.... i just need to get level 2, and im french first language, so ill be rock'n it once i get it, with no employment problems :D
so ya, become a member, save on gear and ride/teach with kids :D

my 2 cents is, go and get it, there is alot more to riding then you can actuly think of :D

From what I understand, you can't get your level 2 with no teaching experience or so soon after getting your level 1... I asked about how long I should expect to wait between levels and was told that they usually require you to have at least a season of teaching level 1 under your belt.  I'll be going for my level 2 in March...

Contact your local hills and let them know that you just recently got your level 1 and are looking for employment.  Most hills have already hired I would imagine, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.... they might need your help with a special camp or something and that will give you some experience!

yea for sure
i did all that, applied to Cobble and to Boler and told them about the camps
Im fluent in french, so quebec might be a better option for me, but meh, we'll see
and the whole experiance thing, i understand that,
the reason why, is because your beeing taped and there is no more PTT... its all critiques, like you suck at this, u suck at that...

and ya u need your teaching skills to be 100% for begginners stuff, because your expected to teach at 100% no problem and no issues, when u get to level 2.....

Thanks Nine.lives for all the info :)

You though about beeing a rookie evaluator?

Good that you applied and all that... I'm crossing my fingers for you!

I'm not sure what you mean about being taped and no more PTT???

PTT is for all levels of instructing, obviously rookies are going to be more sensitive to negative comments but maybe you're thinking about coaching?  I know that they are supposed to be a lot more direct..

Nah, I haven't really thought about being an evaluator yet.. that's getting too far ahead of myself.

Im talking about taking the courses , like level 2,3,4... not teaching, when you teach, PTT will always, always , always be there reguardless of what age or group you coach/teach... so yes, i agree with you completly, yes teaching will always have PTT

But when you take your level 2-3-4 courses, what i was told, is that you get taped, and get told what you need to work on, and told what you suck on and whats good, but they really drill it to you about the bads. because you need to be a good example on the hill, like a "model" to copy ya know....

thats what i mean, there way more stricked and demanding as you get higher and less PTT more critique,

Thats all i ment by that, sorry for the confusion :)

Thank you, for the crossed fingers :D

But i think their full, but im on their waiting list, i made them put my name there, because they said they were full so told me to come next year... i was like....(jaw dropped and awww'd) no way, im not going to wait till next year to start my teaching.... then i proposed this to them....  Why don't you put me on your waiting list, im french, its my first language, we have 6 french first language schools here that i personaly have attended, i know most of the teachers, at most of the schools, and to top it off i used to go to these schools. i know how frustrating it is when there is a language barrier and when you have a kids that came from the african nations, the province of quebec, and other contries... that don't speak a lick of english, how are you they going to be teached???? It's very hard, so when them camps come around or them french school day trips, wouldn't it be good for me to be there and help out?

He was kinda shocked, and then started to get interested :P
since i've been a season pass holder for the past 4 years, he wanted to put a face to the name, he says that he remembers but just wants to meet again, so hey, i think i got a foot in the door :)

woot woot :)

Keep them crossed :D

PTT is like...

Good balanced body position Alison (Positive feedback), TO help initiate turns TRY extending your legs.
