So i'm from canada, and have never been to NZ. But am planning on moving to Wanaka in June, i was curious as to how hard it would be to find a job/ Place to live? What on adverage could i expect to make working in a snowboard shop/ Resteraunt (where most of my work experiance is)? and how much would renting a room set me back? I'm really moving to NZ to snowboard, is wanaka the best place to move to? Which is the best hill for me to get a seasons pass at? or is there a multi-hill pass that combines the hills in the area? sorry for all the questions, im just trying to get as much info as possible before i make my decision to move.

Ok where do i start...

A job in wanaka should be easy providing you have some skills and experience out of all the time ive been in town i think ive spent less than a week unemployed and that was because i was to lazy to find a job. Just dont leave it to late or else you'll risk not getting a job, the same goes with trying to find some where to live. I wouldnt turn up much later than the last week of may/first week of june. Accmodation should be easy enough to find if you rock up early, but if you rock up late it could be tricky. But theres allways the trailler park near town, and the one out the road.

For ski resorts from wanaka you got 3 main options, Snowpark, Cardrona, Trebble cone. If you wana ride purely boxes/pipe/kickers/etc head to snowpark its truely epic, Trebble cone has the mad steeps and gnarly chutes but the down side is its fucking expensive (unless u get an industry pass) and it gets tracked out super fast on a pow day eg you might get 2 or 3 good runs in. And cardrona has both park and some steaps but overall the feild is pretty mellow, but it has a decent park and some ok runs.

Hope that helps and that i havnt written tooo much of a novel.

ps at 3am in wanaka only the pie shop is open.

Be sure you sign up early in the new-year for the Working Holiday scheme, when I applied for mine last year in March I was told they were already starting to run low on the quota for the year.
