visit www.download.com acquire spyboy search and destroy- install update,  fix spyware found. then back to download.com once more for adaware 2008, again install, update, scan, remove. if that doesn't work yes defrag as well, clear out temp internet files depending on your browser the easiest way to explain that is by going to ( for I.E ) tools/internet options/ under 'browsing history' there will be a button to delete temp files/ downloaded files etc.. when prompted 'remove all' or 'delete all'. for firefox its pretty much the same - tools options etc... you'll have to find which tab its under to remove temp files but its there. if u need any further help feel free to contact me.

good advice sez, u saved me some typing

im curious, if your still having slowness, check how many processes your running by right clicking on the taskbar and choose task manager, 20 processes is bone stock, 30 is normal like, 40 or more and you should take a look for crap thats running all the time and doesnt need to be, especially the obvious ones near your clock

I had a Dell laptop that I had for almost 3 years, and it ran strong up until a couple of weeks ago. It just conked out. And I lost everything. I'm working on a Macbook now. If it's still running slow I'd take it in to a PC specialist to see if they can figure out what's going on.

also get a program called hijack this from download.com too, have a computer savvy person help you with that program and or read the help file throughourly. this will get rid of the process the other person was talking about that are running at boot. ( IE : aim starting with windows etc.. ). also upgrading ram is the cheapest and best way to speed up a machine, sometimes over time ram doesn't work as well, upgrading and adding memory is like adding new fuel injection to a car, it just changes how it reacts to certain conditions. best way to know what ram you have and what to order is to go to http://crucial.com they have a test on their site to see how much and what type of ram you have. good luck, again if u need any further assistance feel free to contact me.
