Dont take this the wrong way, but your 14 and youve only been riding for 2 seasons, you dont need a GL2. if you wanna ask mom and dad for a good gift for christmas just ask them for a baby death lens or maybe a smaller 3CCD camera like a PVGS320, then you are sticking with the same company, so you know the basics of the controls, and youll have a pretty small camera to ride with, which is a plus.
Overall buying cameras is a stupid investment, and buying a GL2 or any dated tech now would be a pretty bad idea unless you have a reason to go to that extreme, I personally think youd be better off with something like the PVGS320.

if you're using it for skating more, then i'd go for it. or a slightly slimmed down version of it, because it has the handle built right in, and it has the record/stop button right there on the handle. and the built in boom.

It doesn't matter about your skill level. If you are into cameras and know how to use them properly then get it.

I've had mine for five years now and it can be my best friend or my worst enemy. If you know how to use cameras well, and understand how to care and maintain them a gl2 will do you proud. But you will also need to understand, corcky malfunctions will happen over time, but nothing a quick ship back to canon wont cure.

Meh. I'll take the Canon HDV 20 or 30.
