Why Mammoth or Northstar? Why would you even chose Northstar over Mammoth?

There is not much in the way of cheap accomadation in Mammoth though, or near Northstar either.

In Mammoth, the cheapest place is the Motel 6 half way through town.

As far as Northstar, there is nothing really that cheap around it. There is a Travelodge in Tahoe City which I believe has the cheapest rates in the area. Also, by Squaw Valley there is a hostel. I dont know exactly where it is. My brother stayed in it and told me about it.

I spent a season at mammoth and that was too long to be limited to that one mtn. If I were you I would look at utah. sandy is a great little town at the base of the canyons and you could easily hit snowbird, solitude, and brighton as they are right next to each other. More variety, better snow, cooler people, cheaper everything.

I dont know what the hell you are even talking about. You could spend a whole season at Mammoth and never hit that whole mountain. It has everything you could ever ask of a mountain. Cliff drops, steep runs, deep powder, epic parks, rails, cruisers, speed runs, almost all of it is high speed quad chairs, June Mountain is a few minute drive from there, and Tahoe is less then 3 hours away

I love the mountain at mammoth but it gets pretty damn crowded, and has a plethora of gapers. Northstar has a good park but that's about it, most of the runs are pretty flat.

Northstar's stash looks sick. Also their park is amazing. The powder riding isnt the greatest, but like someone said above me, theres like 4 nearby mountains.

I don't know how many days you ride a season but I hit mammoth 155 days that year. There isn't anything on the mtn I haven't seen. It's a great place to ride but I got bored with it

So you are just bragging to be a jerk? Doesn't really matter because it's your parents paying for everything anyways.

To Shaun2121, check out the place I just PM you. It is a ski house 10 minutes away from Northstar and costs $20 a night to stay - has wifi internet and a hottub.

Mammoth is huge, no doubt about it; but Northstar is a park rat's wet dream.
Can't go wrong with either one IMO; both parks kill it.

I ride generally 5 days a week. Sometimes more, sometimes less. I grew up at Bear Valley, California snowboarding there. So, dont tell me about getting bored at Mammoth just because you get 155 days in a year or whatever. The mountain I grew up at was about the size of Mammoths bathroom

and i learned to ride at sunrise mtn in arizona.... what's your point?
My opinion was that if you spend an entire season at mammoth you might get board...

Have you ever ridden snowbird? I thought mammoth was the end all until I sessioned up the bird.

mammoth is all about the steez. the town sucks. the nightlife sucks. the gapers suck. the so cal locals for the most part suck as well.

I totally agree with you on that one. Thats the whole reason I didnt move to Mammoth. You are pretty secluded out there. And they have like two bars, and everyone goes there, so it is the same croud everynight. But for someone traveling there for a week or two to ride, it is a nice place.

You can get bored at any mountain really.

And no, I havent been outside of California too many times in my life. I think I will be making a trip to Colorado this year though during spring break.

Agent-G in Colorado!  Sweet.  We'll have to hook up.

Snowbird is pretty kick ass, better than Mammoth?  Not so sure about that, but it's a great mountain.  Problem I have is by supporting them you support the snowboard ban at Alta.

If there is a more pointless place to argue than the web...
I don't know about it.

here is Bear Valley's map

I think I would like your Sunrise resort better. The employees cant be as bad as they are at Bear Valley. Have you ever heard of a resort that stopped its grooming for days at a time, or takes out their terrain park because they are going to make it a "family resort" All the lifts are from the 60's except one which they put in a couple years ago after it broke down for hours on hours.

Oh, yeah, and on the map i sent ya, remember, the whole lower half of the mountain that is below the shaded yellow spot is only usually open part of the year if you are lucky. The bottom is around 6,000 feet and gets very little snow so they cant open it usually

Agent, Bear Valley looks big to me.  I got 8 trails in a good year that get old in one day.  So I might look into North Carolina to go someplace new.  Oh and if you do want a real mountain you should come to Ober over your spring break.  They might still be open haha

fuck yeah...

you know I bet I would have fun at Ober Gatlinburg, just tearing that resort apart. Hitting speed runs all day and spraying people with snow. They would be like "Those damn Californians"

oh, and yeah, Bear Valley is not very big. I mean, maybe compaired to some east coast resorts, I am sure it has it beat in vertical feet. But the fact that the whole bowl under that yellow shaded area is hardly ever open due to elevation, the fact that they dont build parks anymore, the fact that the mountain manager has actually told people to leave the mountain and never come back because they asked them why the took the parks out of the resort, the fact that it ususally takes me 30 seconds to a minute to get from the top to the bottom....

I dunno...its hard for me to ride there anymore. I come over to vist my family for holidays and I have trouble riding there. It just has such a negative vibe to it.

The story I like telling the best, is when the old owner of the mountain came up on his snowmobile to the top of a comp, and kicked somebody's snowboard down the backside, out of bounds, side of the mountain. When the guy said, "hey what the hell, that was my snowboard" he said "hey fuck you, if you dont like it you can just leave, or maybe you can have your daddy buy you a ski resort too and do what you want"

somethings telling me you have contemplated coming here.  You know the full name of it.  It sucks spraying people so much due to the ice instead of snow so you dont get as much coverage on people.

yes, I am actually intrigued by the resort. Since I first found out that Tenn. has a ski resort a few years back I have wanted to try it.
