get all of the basics down on rails and jumps ,learn to spin 540 off jumps and on and off of rails  alot of the time contests are judged more on stlye then difficulty  so its better to have really clean 5s then skechy 7s

Well i think you have to kinda give us a range of what you can do right now. Like, list us some of your Safety tricks (the tricks you KNOW you can do regardless). Or some tricks you've been trying, because as it is, you could be at the point of doing 180's and thinking of going into the beginner category. or you could be fuckin luke mitrani!

Okay, now we're onto something!  Before you think of competing, clean up your act. Learn 3's front and backside, and dont forget the grabs. Nograb spins are just as good as no spin grabs. And look into doing spins onto rails. At your level I'd say you could be doing 180 on 180 off with some effort. Just make sure your tricks are comfy and clean before your competing. Remember, snowboarding is about having fun, not about being the best there is. If you fall out of the running and there is a feature that doesnt count towards the competition and you know the crowd (if there is one) will love it, go for it! Dont be the dude who feels pressure to win competitions, because thats not really what snowboarding should be. For some people it is, and thats cool forsure, just dont get too caught up in being the best rider out there.

Edit: Wow that turned into a fucked up rant about competitions.
