Anyone have any history with this car? Right now I drive a 2003 ford ranger but i'm lookin to get into something more gas friendly and something with more room. I figure a forester would be a good choice because it gets about 5 mpg more than the ranger. It also is awd makin it ideal for heading up to the mountain. I'm in the $5000 price range and it seems that most cars in this range have around 130,000 miles on them. Is this too much, has anyone driven a forester way past this? Any other suggestions for cars welcome.

I haven't driven one, but you can't really go wrong with a Suby.

I have a 2006, no problems whatsoever, but only have 44,000 miles on it (70,000km).  I know people that have put over 200,000 trouble free miles on Subies.
The Forester is great at everything but gas mileage - Milesage is ok, (better than the Ranger for sure) but full time awd uses more gas than ordinary fwd.

130,000 miles for a Suby is nothing!  My Outback is getting close to it's 100,000 mile mark and it will be like celebrating a childs 1st birthday.

Subaru's are great cars, but they dont get the best gas milage. All wheel drive takes alot of gas to power.

I just recently got a legacy 2.5gt wagon and I love it.  Very fun to drive and quite zippy.  Winter should be a blast not getting stuck like was often done in the minivan

I love my 05 Subie Forester!. It had 39,000 miles when I got it a couple of months ago.

On a recent longer trip up over the pass and back, I actually got 30 mpg!!!!!  Normal around town I usually get at least mid 20s for mpg.  My average mileage seems to run about 27.5 mpg.  It's just a basic model, not the turbo. I'd totally recommend it!
