Hello everyone!

Im going to be hitting Japan at the end of the year, and was wondering if anyone has any tips on which places to go, where not to go, where to stay etc.

Any advice would be helpful.

Cheers,

Valerik

niseko is amazing, but its too crowded with aussies... its a tourist town now. good for parties but i cant stand the pretentious cocky scene in most 'cool' resort towns so I personally would go elsewhere

How long are you going for? Early Feb usually has best conditions.
What's the main point of the trip? Just tracking powder? Do you need big parties? Want some Japanese culture?
Wanna stay at one resort or check out as many as possible?

I've not been to Hokkaido so can't really compare. But I hear their snow kicks ass compared to anywhere in the world.

I've spent some time in Hakuba, Nagano. 47/Goryuu are 2 resorts but they pretty much may as well be one 47 has a decent park. same ticket gets you access all over. Happo is great for off piste some great steep terrain may have to hike out sometimes. Iwatake is smaller but has less crowds and really nice tree lines. Tsugaike has really wide beginner runs and lots of intermediate terrain, but not many challenging steeps. But the do have a lot of great back country if you're willing to hike or pay for the heli.

There's about another 276 resorts in the area, not really, but quite a few more. Those listed are probably the bigger ones.

My missus wants me to come to Japan after Europe with her (her family lives there and she's not Japanese), so I might be able to get a week or so extra boarding this season :D
