I have had enough, I want to become a snow-bum for at least as hort period of my life so that I can say that I did it, its annoyed the hell outa me working all year long to go away once maybe twice a year if im lucky and then this season not going away at all.

So heres the Q im throwing out:

What would be the quickest way to get together a lot of money together so I can pay off all my bills and then get out of this country for a long time over the season?

No Tommy I am not selling my arse to you or any other bloke! and preferable the answer does not involve killing myself with over working.

Im also thinking about how much it would cost to live in Europe if I budgeted tightly and worked as little as possible to get max snow time in.

How much do gigalo's get paid?????? Lez?

Ok well, my official answer would be this: Join the Merchant Navy under a sponsorship (no, you're never too old) and get free training and OOW ticket at the end of it which will allow you to sail on any motor driven vessel as a 3rd or 2nd Officer accruing anywhere from £23,000 - £40,000 per year tax free and working for only 6 months of the year travelling the world. Clearly there is scope to progress through the ranks up to Captain earning as much as £120,000 per year, this can also go up if you decide to go ashore and get a job in a shipping company. I did my training under sponsorship with SSTG, if you decide to go for it, you'll want to speak to a woman called Lucy Stevens - just tell her Cam recommended you, she'll understand. Check their website for contact details.

Un-officially: Try and get a job somewhere in a resort, this is a good way to get your foot on the ladder as most resorts offer up-coming positions to current staff first, it will also give you a good footing to look for new places to stay and figure out what is what. Mate, the best way to do things in my experience is to simply jump in at the deep end. Throw everything you have into moving away and starting a new life, it will always be a bit rough at first but it pay dividends pretty quickly. But be forewarned; Europe is an expensive place to live, food and beer wise i mean. But i'm always up for helping someone do something lifechanging so if you need my help in moving then i'm right there, i can also sort you out with cheap (if not free) ferry crossings to Europe to get you on your way, i also happen to have a constantly changing list of "free cargo" which i can offer to you at a discounted rate, so if you need cheap electricals, white goods or even a nice car, give me a list and i'll see what i can do.

If you really need a quick fix i can lend you a couple of g's till you get yourself sorted and you can pay me back whenever the hell you feel like it.

But dude you're a creative thinker, i can think of a hundred ways to get some cash together quickly, whats the beef? If i can think stuff up then i know full well you can. How about entering into an amateur downhill  mountain bike  event, you like  downhill, right?  So  it'll be small potatoes at first but you'd enjoy taking part and you'd be collecting winnings and more experience, never know, you might even get sponsored.....

Keep me posted on this one dude, and let me know if i can help any more.

Dude, i was on my ass when i first met Jon, but he kept me positive when things were bad. I'd have a bad day looking for a job and get down about it, i'd log in on here and just throw it out at him and he'd take the time and patience to talk to me and keep me sane. I owe this dude the lifestyle that i have now, so i don't think i can ever begin to repay him for his kindness, but every little helps.

Aside from that, you don't need a reason to help people.

Sell everything you can get your hands on and pay off as much debt as you can. Make sure where ever you end up going, you have  a mate and accomodation for free to get you started, as thats a biggie anywhere you go in the world. Theres always bar work, or working in resorts, etc.
Do it soon Jon, as some of these countries put an age limit on work visas.......

Go for it Jon, the Merchand Navy sounds like a fun thing to do, months out at sea with lots of men, washing with lots of men...your kinda scene.

I was going to do the unofficial answer from PR, which was just go out there, get a bar job (somewhere which only opens for apres-ski, so then you get all day on the slopes, and then just work from 5-1).  Seems like a good plan to me!  Alternatively its me getting a job in another country & buying a house in between the sea & snow.

You could always try and find a few like minded folk on here and try and throw together a consortium of sorts. Agree to move over there together, sharing the cost of living and generaly helping each other out. I mean, why not? Good times, good friends. No looking back bro. What more could you possibly ask for? I'd join you, but i have my own motives, but if you're ever looking for work in a snowboard shop in NZ, you just let me know .

Just because I've spent most of today in a black rubber suit, doesn't mean I'm a gimp!

No the fact that you dress up in the evening in a completely different black rubber suit does though that coupled with your enjoyment of being submissive.

We've had some snow! That chilly weather over the weekend gave us a good healthy dusting and, while it's still early days yet, we'll take that as a good omen for a great season to come. Check out this photo of Turoa taken yesterday.

Season Passes are on sale at Earlybird prices for just 9 more days!

These are the very best value season passes in the country and, if you buy one, you go in the draw to win a trip for two to Club Med Sahoro in Japan for five nights and worth $10,000.

There are heaps of benefits to being a Mt Ruapehu Season Pass holder including discounted skiing/riding in the South Island, awesome deals at some northern hemisphere resorts, a voucher book containing $100 worth of on-mountain savings and 10% off purchases at Vertical retail stores. A whole season of fun on Ruapehu and all those benefits for just $409 for adults (incl $10 online discount). Click here for all the details.

Looking for a great job?

You might have a cool job - but I bet you know someone who doesn't and is looking for a change!

Working at Whakapapa and Turoa is a whole lot of fun - where else do you get to strap on your board or click into your skis during your lunchbreak and head out into the fresh air for a cruisy bit of R&R and a chance to soak up the unbeatable views?
Having fun at Ruapehu is not only an expectation we have for our customers - this philosphy fully extends to our staff as well!
Although applications for the 2008 winter have officially closed there are still some larger departments that may need more staff as well as some more specialised positions we are looking to fill.
If you know anyone who might be interested in working in the following departments or roles please tell them to apply asap so we can help them to make it happen:
  • Early Childhood Educator (qualified)
  • Doctor (at least 3-5 years experience)
  • Rentals
  • Food and beverage attendants, chefs, cooks, kitchenhands
  • Lift and road attendants
  • Bus drivers
We are also waitilisting for other roles.
All you need for many of these positions is an awesome attitude, a passion to do something well and a sense of fun - we can take you through the rest!

Not brilliant, between $14-18 an hour, and a lot of staff get a job pulling pints as well, it would depend on whether yu can get a room/cheap accom in the village...but enough to get by, thats for sure
