Hey there,

My girl and I have decided to skip out on the crazy humidity this summer and head to NZ for a snowboarding vacation.  We are still beginners, but have been taken in by the sport.  I would really appreciate some advice on where to go.  We would like to have a relaxing vacation, essentially easy access to and from the hill as well as the opportunity to go to a few different mountains.  Since we are more interested in free riding and still trying to get to the intermediate level, we don't need a huge park to hang out at--although it would be nice to check out such a place to watch some people do their thing.

In any case, we wold like some suggestions on where to go within NZ, where to board at, and suggestions on where to stay.  A nice resort would be great.  Or an area near a few resorts would be better as we will be there for more than a week.  Oh yea, and the trip will be at the end of July-beginning of August.

Cheers and thanks in advance,

m.. .

Hehe, youve got a lot of reading to do!! Have a look at the top thread 'aus/nz work pool', its full of everything you need to know.
Basically I guess you will have to decide on whether you want North or South island....whether you will have a car to get around and if you want to sight see, or if you want to stick in one place!
I guess most people here would suggest the south island to you as there are more resorts/variety etc
Here in the North you have Turoa and Whakapapa as the main two with smaller ones that are probably a bit challenging for newbies.

If I had lots of dosh, I'd do the south island, only because I havnt managed to get down there yet! And Queenstown/Wanaka has an awesome vibe. Theyve just spent a lot of money on some of those resorts.
But my soft spot is Ruapehu, cos thats where I live!!!
If you do come this way, drop me a message as it would be cool to meet up!

Thanks a lot for the reply.   I have found a few websites to help me out.  I still find it overwelming as I there are just too many options.  I am not sure what we will decide on.  Thanks for the reply though.

I will keep on reading and will be back if I have any more questions.

If you are looking for a quiter relaxing holiday i would say wanaka for sure. its such a nice little chilled out town. from wanaka you have the options of treble cone (which has prolly some of the best freeriding in the area), cardrona (which is a great all rounder it has plenty of good trails but also some nice parks) and snow park (which the name suggests is a big park). the car thing is a funny decision because most of the mountains are around 30 - 40 mins from queenstown and wanaka. personally we dicided not to get one and just bus it around but with a car there is alot of really nice site seeing to be done i hear people speak really highly of hiring cars and touring around through the canterbury club fields.

hope that helps at all

Edit: the seach button is your friend, this topic has been covered a thousand times over so there is alot of good infromation out there, so read up and find out what is best for you

I'm probably too late..

But definately check out Queenstown, it's awesome.
I had some of the funnest (and cheapest, but drunkest..) nights out.

I would go there tomorrow if I could.

South island is great to see.. it's all good really.
