I used to avoid any kind of sliders like the plague. I've always had the desires to jib, but of course love powder, carving and all the other good things snowboarding has to offer as well. I pretty stoked the other day when I made it all the way from the beginning to end on the actual slider in the pic below (I have no idea who person in this pic is). I'm only doing 50-50's down it, got owned on a couple tries, but stoked that I did it! I confronted the fear and found enjoyment in this new challenge.
I turn 31 next month. I don't know of m
any other 30-something year old females learning to play on sliders, but oh well. I'm having an awesome time. The next challenge will either be riding it switch 50-50 and/or trying to do frontside boardslides. I'm still having the adrenaline rush from having ridden one of Schweitzer's longest rails all the way through!
If hell freezes over.... whoever wants to ride there may... I choose to ride in heaven where it'll always be a powder day

don't forget your ibuprofen, my nurse wife says tylenol is bad for the kidneys, or liver.. i forget. one of those. need the keep those kidneys working to sell off to finance the next board trip... ;)
we're both 31 an just learnin', might try the park one day.. if my skill progresses faster than my aging body.

tylenol can do the liver in. at 49 I regularly predose with ibuprofen. I'll do an ocassional straight air jump but no boxes or rails; would try some spins on a no consequence day but forget on those days due to being preoccuppied with hitting the steeps.
Alcohol will def help speed that process up. Acetametophine or whatever does not mix well with alcohol. Went on a vicadin and beer binge in park city when I broke some ribs and 3 days later it felt like someone kicked me in the liver. Went to the doc and got some blood tests and sure enough... I kicked myself in the liver!
I sometimes do ibuprofen after riding, but really, I just deal with the pain. I always figure it is there for a reason. If my body wants to talk, I'll listen. Maybe when I get a bit older and it turns into nagging more then talking, tehn I'll take something to shut it up.
And as far as progression, it DOES happen outside of the park too. Don't read above posts and think"old and lame, afraid to try new things" Just differant strokes for differant folks. I just think it's cool we all get out therte and have a good time doing whatever.

This is my first year in the park.
I like to carve and I like to ride fast but now I'm trying something new. (I'm 38 this year)
My love has a disc problem - no more riding with me, My oldest is pregnant (my first grandbaby!!!), my middle child is in college where they only have hills - Texas, and my son is always in the parks or in the trees...
So guess where I am?
Most of the time I'm shadowing him to video tape but I'm riding a bit. (I do find I get more injuries and falls taping him than when I ride them myself!)
Age is a state of mind!!!

haaa... i just turned 36 last month! only park riding i did this yr was a trip down to chillax & ride w/ family in big bear. my 1st few seasons (97-00), my park "diet" consisted only of straight airs w/ various grabs & tweeks. then i got a helmet & moved onto 180s & basic slides on rails & boxes. the past few seasons it's been all about freeriding!
but seeing these pix & the fun i had @bear mtn/snow summit last month has got me jonesin' to take a few laps thru the park. i know i'm in serious need of a good x-course. sadly, i heard only kirkwood & boreal have one going in the tahoe/central sierras this season. i used to love smashing the one @sierra (i heard they planned to move it to the green run on the backside but didn't for some reason... they have a reg. int. park in its old spot
). and bear valley has not or have plans to build theirs fr what i was told last wknd. (more
)
anyway, awesome to read that the 30+ group is holding it down in the park!!! keep it up, ladeez & gents!

Technically speaking, tylenol (acetaminophen / paracetamol) only does your liver in if you take more than the stated maximum dose. Ibuprofen can be detrimental to the kidneys, but again most healthy people wouldn't be affected unless taking it for a substantial period of time, regularly. .... (I'm a Dr).

There are loads of people out there still shredding into their 60's and beyond, its all down to our own mental barriers as to what we do and how far we do it, I have played in the park a bit before but as I dont get out often living in the UK it means at I am more loath to use my time up risking potential injury though inexperience, though this year will be going out on the last day to spend a fair bit of time in the park, but till then will just play jumping off the little natural hits and practicining a few grabs.
Im even still thinking about getting out to the moutains for a season but that will still have a few depends on it, mainly about where I am working if I am working etc, and what happens between mysefl and the better half from now to the start of the next season.

i don't hang around in this section too much , as i'm pretending that 28 is soo much younger than 30.
i'm finally going to get the courage to try a few 'park' things... i just even bought a more park specific board(capita scaremaster) so i have no excuses!
right now, i can land slowly moving 180's and awkward looking switch 180s off small hits. no matter what it is, i look odd and uncomfortable doing it. i love getting some air, be it in the park or elsewhere, have a few grabs i can handle, but after a nerve damaging rail session last year, i'm avoiding handrails for now... i'll still try boxes and wide ones though.
so i'm hoping by the end of the season, i'll have a better handle on 360s and boxes. oh, and all this 'buttering' the kids are talking about!
haikus are easy but sometimes they don't make sense refrigerator

I completely understand you Scoopy, the main reason I started looking at hitting more jumps and the visits to theparks was to make more use of my ride DH when I got it a few years back, but still dont use the pop it offers much, as I tend to prefer hitting the powder.
Am taking My first board out with me in a couple of weeks to use in the park aswell (Burton Motion) just to see how that handles, as its shorter than my DH so m ight give me some more manouverability.

new year...new goals. Just because I'm in my 40s doesn't mean I'm not progressing.
This year, I bought one of the new tech boards hoping that it might give me some confidence to get to my next level...it worked. Not sure if it was just a mental barrier, but I finally managed to do several backside 360s this year and even mistakenly made a frontside 360. These were off smaller natural bumps since park jumps still intimidate me (I usually do at least one straight air off all of them just for my ego, but that's it)
this year, I've also added (small) frontside airs to grab off hips and backside airs to switch. Of course, the method grab is the logical next progression, but, after that, I really don't have many more goals in snowboarding. If I'm able to consistently incoorporate all these tricks on some fun, surfy trails, I'll probably be satisfied with my short, but wonderful snowboard experience.
...bad thing is, I landed on my ass on some ice in Tahoe about a week ago (just cruising some moguls) and the muscles in that area are not real happy now. Hate to be that guy on the lift smelling like tiger balm or whatever, but it appears I am for the rest of the season...at least
