board: 08 lib tech trs w/ mtx
length: 157
bindings: 08 burton triad
boots: 06 burton ion

i got the board a few days ago but didn't have a chance to ride until today.  initial impression is that the board is much lighter than the custom x.  my first warm up run on the board felt funny.  i couldn't really pin point what felt funny at first, but the board rode differently than the custom x in a way i didn't like.  anyways, the carves were tight and the board POPS.  not sure if it's because this board is 3cm shorter than the custom x, but the first carve (toe edge) was so tight, it thew me off balance and then onto my ass...very embarrassing with lots of people around.  anyways, tail an nose presses was amost effortless.  ollieing the board was much much easier than the custom x (well, that board wasn't made to do that....nonetheless).  didn't get a chance to try the board off of jumps though...tomorrow maybe.  this is my first flexy/poppy board so i can't really compare it to others, but it is so much mroe fun to ride than the burton.

mtx works!! it got pretty icy near the end of the day.  on a steep icy patch, i thought i was goona wipe out (my custom x with a fresh tune surely could have) and kinda braced myself for it, but the board held on...i went through the same patch a couples just to see.  i'm sold.

by the middle of the day, i had adjusted to the board and made some charges all the way down the mountain. the board hold high speed edges very good as well although i did feel some chatter on a few bumpy spots--nothing i couldn't live with.  custom x was defintely more stable at high speed though.  during those charges, i found out why the board felt strange to me.  i realized that the board's base is not very fast.  people did make this comment when i asked about this board, but the difference between the custom x and the trs is night and end.  when i pointed the trs down the mountain, it felt kinda sticky compare to the custom x--this was the funny feeling i was getting).  anyways, i throw some hot wax on it tonight and see how it goes tomorrow.

summary: this board really does tear up the whole mountain.  just wished it had a faster/high tech base.

tightboard review:
i know there are a lot of nagative reviews on this site but i thought i'd give it a try anyways.  amex is very good at protecting consumers so i figure if something were to go wrong, amex would have me covered.

ordered on Jan 7th with next day shipping.  the board had was $400 ($100 discount).  Figure with the $75 next day air shipping, it'd still comeout much cheaper than buying from somewhere else.  Confirmation received after about 15 minutes.  Board shipped out from tightboards warehouse Jan8th and received on Jan 9th.  everything went perfect!!!

my only complaint was that it was near impossible to find a customer service rep to talk to.  I wanted to call and double check to see that board was in stock.  was on hold for at least 30min and finally was able to speak to someone who could guranty when the board was ship.  anyways, i took the plunge and it came out well.

I dunno, I disagree with a bit of this review. I had a 08 Custom earlier this year with a WFO Sintered base, and the TRS MTX seemed to ride faster than the Custom. I had a Custom X last year and I do agree that it is faster than the TRS MTX, but I wouldn't say its an exponential night and day difference.

In terms of turning, I haven't really noticed much of a difference with MTX. There may be a little bit of an adjustment, but its mostly tip and turn. I mostly just lean in or out and the board will go on edge and in the direction that I want it to...telekenesis:D

TRS MTX isn't super easy to press, IMO! I can press it, but it requires some effort..allbeit that it is much easier to press than a Custom X. TRS MTX is supposed to be on the stiffer side of the all mountain freestyle spectrum.

I experience very little chatter with my TRS MTX .. and I bomb it down icy trails here in Quebec! There is the odd bit here and there but for the majority of the time I'm quite confident that I can lay it down without having to worry about being thrown off.

I find my 08 Skate Banana 159 Way faster than my 07 TRS MTX 162 but the TRS has a extruded base so I blame that. I actually like the skate banana better for all mountain than i did the TRS except the fact that the banana is not as responsive in turns but thats the nature or the board. I classify the TRS as a Freeride/freestyle board and the skate banana as a "all mountain freestyle board". You can definetly feel a little more stability in the TRS but the skate banana is all around effortless because of the banana tech.

try for yourself... both killer boards and i really enjoyed both of them. Another killer freeride/freestyle stick is the GNU rider choice, I loveed the old factory choice and my GF rides a riders choice 157.5 this year.. very solid.

Since it was your first day, were you out on the factory wax?  If so, I recommend a hot wax.  The TRS is the first board that I really paid attention to keeping it waxed, simply because it is a bit slower.  I think if you do this, you'll see it's not night and day difference, just a little bit slower in comparison.   I can still smoke people down runs when I point mine.

dpk FTW. Factory wax jobs last a day, at best.  Mervin boards seem moreso than anything else I've ridden, too.

I find it funny you felt the Custom X is heavy that board is wicked light compared to any mervin, even with a 3 cm descrepancy.  What you're actually feeling in turns is just the different sidecut radius mixed with MTX.  As noted the TRS has a low end base.
f*ck the rest die like the Best!
