Blank Paper's "In Short"

Blank Paper's "In Short" DVD

After so many shred pr0ns, you feel like you've seen them all. Sure, every so often, a vid will have a killer closer here or some as-yet-unseen banger park rotation there, but in the end, it's all at the very least, really familiar. In short, you've seen it before.

But you haven't seen "In Short." wink.gif

This film, imperfections included, breaks any previous shred film mold presented yet. Even the menus are thoughtfully executed and worth your time with 30+ minutes of bonus footage. Without giving too much away, the video is divided into five segments. I'll leave it at, "There's a Japan segment and an Alaska segment." Fill in the blanks for yourself by watching the video. Tents blown away on AK peaks, the cyclical life of a shred stick, one-footed bonk to boardslides, artful shredding sans snow (no rails!), unparalleled stop-motion photography, pipeline pow under cascading cliffs. This film deftly evades any conventional description or classification, as Benedek, Weber, LeBlanc, Basich, Schmidt, Messier and others round out the cast in this multi-faceted, stoke-inducer.

The film isn't perfect. Some songs are a bit too light-hearted; it's not wall-to-wall amped up shred, as dialogue and off-hill shots frequent some segments. The bottom line stands firm though: It's an unconventional shred flick that is honest and artistic, yet isn't pretentious or artsy. An original, fresh perspective on snowboarding with humor and creativity in spades that leaves you stoked to ride.

I have yet to see DC MTN LAB 1.5 or Let It Ride, but this film garners my only perfect rating for this snow pr0n season: FOUR out of four popcorns!

Cool.  Post back here and let us know what you think!

Even though I gave it four out of four, I kind of doubt many others will feel the same way I did.  I'm just sick of the same cheese wedge sessions and urban rails, so this creative flick was a breath of fresh air.

I'm stoked you liked it. So far its my favorite movie this, but Ubermovie might over take the throne when it arrives.

True.  DC MTN LAB 1.5 could as well.  I'm excited to see both.

Just watched this, Def my top movie this season.
I like the format of the movie. It keeps my attention unlike the monotonous riding and trick after trick films such as those from MDP and absinthe IMO, i got a short attention span anyway :P

The japan section was amazing, i can see all the riders there had a lot of fun.
loving blank paper.

Loved it. At first I was like "that's it?" but then watched a couple more time and with the commentary, then I began to really appreciate aspects of it. Dry slope was really cool, the idea of having the opening shots bright so you wouldn't notice that it was actually in England. The Japan segment was kind of like in 91 words for snow but the Japanese dude (can't remember the name) is like Marco Grilic. The Japan section was really good, because they didn't try to make it seem super remote and foreign, just fun. Messier and LeBlanc make a good addition to Blank Paper(even though leblanc was in 91 words). Alaska was awesome, I really liked how you hear the woman say "all this just to go snowboarding?" and they all just respond "basically, yeah!" Even how the trip segment goes is really real. You go out, things do go perfect getting out there, then there's bad weather, then great weather, you get a close call, wake up starting to feel tired out and so on. The zeitsomethingorther(spelling?) segment was really cool once you figure out how they did it with editing it first and getting Toymaker to write a song for it after, although the time lapses got a little over done.

In Short is definitely my favorite 2008 flick...  Mtn Lab 1.5 is a close second...  Optimistic, a distant third...  I also enjoyed We're People Too and Picture This.  Plenty of forgetables, and a few others I still need to watch...
