Anybody know what's the dealio with them? Seems they've closed down the mountain, and the road to access the place. What's up with that? Hmmmm...

I thought they turned fortess into a Cat-skiing operation, no more lifts. They closed those down a few years ago if I recall.

they were open for a year, with cat tows up the far side. As of yesterday, they've been given the no go by k-country. Sounds like k-country just doesnt want it to happen up there. Man it was a fun year when they re-opened... but they got pretty shady about not giving refunds when they didnt open last year. From the looks of it, I wouldnt plan on riding there this year www.skifortress.ca explains all the legal stuff pretty well.

It has been confirmed that the owner of Fortress has been served his notice that his lease agreement with the province of Alberta has been revoked. The owner apparently was non-compliant with several issues in regards to the road that lead to Fortress. The k-country bridge was faulty and the province was telling the owner of Fortress that if he wanted to open the mountain he would have to foot the bill for repairing the bridge. Also apparently there were issues with the repairs of both the lodge and lifts at Fortress that the ownership was not complying with.

Guess that means if you really want to ride there, you'll have to know your avy knowledge well and be willing to hike.
