I am riding my schwinn  10 miles x 4 times a week to try and get my legs in shape. I live in a hilly part of the country so it's a workout, at least for me. I have to lose 20 lbs, I know  that. What kind of exercise does everyone do to get in shape for boarding? I would like to build up strenght to be more confident on bumps.

Bike riding, leg lifts on the weight machine (to stremgthen a bad knee), general weight lifting for upper body strength.

I wakeboard in the summer, which is great for the midsection muscles, what are those?  Obliques-the muscles on the side of your abs.

I also hike and rock climb a lot  at the local state parks where I live. Devils lake state park provides for that.

Also frisbee golf like a mad man,  there are three courses around the Madison, WI. area.  3 rounds in a day =About 3 or 4 miles.

Oh and my #1 exercise is humpin the daylights out of the ladies.  C'mon that's gotta be the best exercise anyone can get.  Girls and Guys alike should agree with that one.

That is all.

I usually mountain bike most of the year, so that keeps me going, plus I tend to run a few days a week and go to the gym about 4 times a week too. I snowboard in the winter, and play tournament paintball and APBA jetski race in the summer, so I never really have down time.

Hopping on the mtn bike is definitely great for snowboarding.  I've heard before that the muscles are the closest to a similiar workout.  Not sure the paintball does you much good except perhaps to remember how to roll when you go down!

(Did my part to see that an entire forum without a new topic in 3 weeks or a post in 3 days didn't go cold!)

I don`t think I`ll even ask which muscles get worked out from going there

I normally love bicycling for exercise, but just not as motivated these last few months. Haven`t felt good physically to the point I haven`t made it on the slopes yet this season - so I`m weak, tired and outta shape compared to my preferred normal.

Did so much mt biking and skateboarding lately that I had to tighten the waist on my snowpants this year, instead of the usual loosening. Good thing to, the waist on my old Burton pants was maxed out last year.

LIFT. It amazes me how many people don't lift. You would greatly reduce injuries by lifting a few times a week.

As for myself, I took up the goal of doing a few open water swim races and triathlons this year. Needless to say I lost about 50-60 lbs over ten months. I'm by far in the best shape I've been in. Ever! So that was my workout to get ready for snow season.

+ infinity on "weight training" and "MTB" <--- awesome off-season cross-training!

A few years ago I've followed this...
Snowboard Workout Program
Since I already run a few times a week, I just did the Strength, Injury Prevention & Flexibility (I'm also a "stretch-oholic" when it comes to pre-activity warm-up.) portions to get ready for the season.  I didn't do any Plyo.  I dunno why.  I just didn't incorporate it.

I recall my first couple times up for that season did not involve a sore & achy few days of recovery.  Prolly would have helped to continue the program thru the season.

I started the program up again this year around Halloween, but have slacked off the few couple weeks b/c I'm wrapping up the quarter since I'm back in school.  I'll get back on track by Sun, esp. since I'm looking to ride on Thur, Fri or both.

i do strength & cardio training year round, which helps keep me ride ready. Plus, i play a bunch of different sports through out the year.

I'm coming off a knee injurfy that i incurred snowboarding last season, and have been doing a lot of lower body and balance excercises in physio.  I've noticed that they've helped me become more agile when playin other sports, so i can't wait to hit the slopes and test out my knee.

lunges (forward, and side), squats, and do upper body excersises on a balance board or upside down bosu to help build ur balance.
