^ Or school i.ds/expired credit cards/gift cards/etc. They get pretty gnarly after a while though, gotta clean them off with some more simple green to get the gunk off.

Hey I liked that about the car window scraper. I went out and bought one today. got me a nice little handle to push that scraper along with now. So now I don't have to have the lil burton triangle one jamming into the palm of my hand. thanks :)

i use a painters knife to scrape wax when i wax my board... but i think im gonna try the car one that sounds good.

i also use uh... fantastik with orange cleaning spray, but i should check on the ammonium on that.
oh, and if you have a really scratched up base, you can do a base grind without going to the shop by using fine or medium grit sandpaper on an electric hand sander, setting it to the lowest setting, and then use it on your base. it will work, so use it sparingly cause it removes about a mm of your base. then make sure to clean it again and hot wax it right away.

I went with a citrus based cleaner instead of Simple Green as the guy in the Auto section of Canadian Tire explained to me that Simple Green is just a name brand, and that it would probably be too strong to use on my snowboard.  The other stuff I got works like a charm and did its job without killing my board.

Goo Gone for removing sticker residue.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for removing stuff from the top sheet, like paint or felt markers

never seen or heard of this simple green stuff, from virginia.

versaplaner's are great for base repairs. made by stanley i think, you can find them at your hardware store, or if not, online at tognar. the curved blade does a good job cutting the ptex in layers. eliminates the fear of ripping it out like if you went straight for the metal scraper.

5 min epoxy is found at any hardware store for $2-3. makes a lot of epoxy relative to the amount needed for any given delam or topsheet chipping you might encounter.

C-clamps to go along with the epoxy, oh and wax paper so you can use the clamps.

anything that needs to be glued back into place (binding piece anyone?), use one of the polyurethane adhesives. i tend to stay away from gorilla glue when it comes to repairs like this, since the expanding foam looks ugly when it dries. PL Glue is the best stuff i've found, and i use it liberally for construction/audio projects. $3 for a 10oz tube.

as stated above, zip ties are incredibly useful. i'm pretty sure zipties are the only thing macguvyer would ever need.

i use Goof-Off to remove adhesive residue on topsheets, say if i need to remove a stomp pad or an old sticker.

hair dryer to stick things on, and take them off.

sharpie for those random scratch marks, and for edge tuning.

and personally, a small fan for those times when doing base repairs. those fumes give me a headache.

You gotta be careful with the fast-setting epoxy. Typically, the shorter the set-up time, the more brittle it is.

Also, as for the whole simple-green thing - my dad used to get this stuff from work when I was a kid, before it was really a consumer product. I would never ever consider using that stuff on my base, for just about any reason. I remember having to wipe that stuff down pretty hard core, otherwise it would leave a pretty serious residue behind. Given the porus nature of a good sintered base, it seems like it would be virtually impossible to get it all out.

You're probably better off using some cheap wax with a hot scrape - and a good stiff nylon brush then using that stuff. Really the less you have to use base cleaner, the better.

This is super ghetto and I wouldn't recommend it, but if you have a small separation of layers in the nose or tail but don't have time to epoxy it before taking it out, scotch tape the hell out of it.  I put like 3 layers along the edge (a lot more of the edge than I needed to) and placed a bunch of overlapping strips taped over that from topsheet to base.  I did it on my Axum, and after a day it held up surprisingly well.  It probably didn't keep all the water out, but it definitely helped.  Not a long term solution, wouldn't work on effective edge, and you'd probably want to at least use something like duct or electrical tape (although that might leave some residual crap on the base), but better than leaving it unchecked and risking core damage.

Forget buying a waxing iron those things cost like 70 bucks

2 easy things you can do

1. put aluminum foil over a regular iron...this way the wax wont get in the holes and mess up the iron

2. (what i use)--go to ebay and type in SEALING IRON, they sell for like 10 bucks with shipping and work better than a wax iron, only take like 20 seconds to heat up and its super easy to pack cuz its not big and fat, its a slimmed down iron
If you get one, keep the temp on its lowest, this thing gets super hot

you can probably buy it at a hardware store too, idk whats in those things

You might be able to use Goo Gone as a base cleaner as well.  I've used it to clean up sticker residue from stuff.  When I bought some One Ball Jay base cleaner, I noticed that it smells just like Goo Gone.  I believe both are citrus based.   Plus Goo Gone may be cheaper than base cleaner.

WINDSHIELD WIPERS :  not sure how you guys might feel about this; but i use windshield wipers as goggle wipes. When you have to replace the wipers on your vehicle, and you just buy the refill rubber things, just cut a little bit off. Then attach it to one of those stupid ass "wax scrapers" (not even sure if thats what they are; somebody said that to me so i went along with it) that comes with board shorts, and away you go. I used krazy glue to put mine on there, and its been working pretty good. I just attached it to my pants and it pops off whenever i need it

SHOE LACES :  not sure if all you guys hills in the states are crazy about leashes, but where im from, your not allowed on the lift without one. aka, you forget your leash, you go into the chalet and grab a pair of DC's. Im guessing most of you knew this trick, but i hadn't seen it in here yet so i thought i had better post it for any noob like myself

edit: spelt "hills" "kills".. thought that might cause offence

re-sharpening your dull scraper. just run that baby along a file a couple times, and you just got yourself a brand scraper. Anyone ever made their own vices before?

^ Seems like that would tear up the plastic and it wouldnt be sharp, and I have never witnessed a scraper get dull. Has anyone used shampoo for anti-fog? My brother uses it on his visor for hockey, but im wondering if it might eff up the tint or something if i used it on my lenses. My anons fog up like the windows of a mans care who is banging the $10 hooker he picked up with his best friends brother.

a file is a file...get one big enough so its easy to use.  there are different coarses though and you might want to get a gummy stone to smooth out your edges after you detune.

Shampoo for anti fogging?
Yes. Any soap will work.....dish...lilquid hand. Any thing gentle.
The theory is as condensation forms on your lenses, the soap will bind the tiny little wee water droplets together which is what fog is, so that instead od little wee droplets, they are bigger which is no longer fog.
Put a small dab on the lens and with CLEAN fingers, rub it onto the lens and then take a good rag or lens wiper and polish. It should work fine.

Careful with the files with out some way to hold them square to base. The edge is not very big so its easy to err on the straighness.

For ironing, I picked one up at the Goodwill store for $5. An old one without holes. JJust set the temp so the wax doesnt smoke.

Thats big dawgy.

As for the iron, you dont need it to not have holes, just make sure the setting isnt turned super high, and dont use your moms! For poop sake, it will ruin clothing. And i wouldnt say to use a file for sharpening your edges, its too easy to eff up. But for de-tuning them for rails or something its dope. I forget what they are called, but people use em on hockey skates all the time, just go to a hockey store and be liek "can i get one of them things that you use to fix your blades right before you skate?" they'll know. You might feel like a retard, but youll have clean/sharp edges.

the "thingy" is just a honing stone. Small thing. Used to take the burr offf the side of the skate blade.
I use one after tuning the edge of my board. Just put it where the file was in the tool and have at it
Costs about a couple bucks
