Got a 09 Never Summer Evo-R, 09 k2 formula binders and 09 Nitro Teams being shipped as I post :) I hate thinking about how long it took to make the cash to buy all this then all of it gone in a second.

you ride a 165 as a park board??

wauw, well, unless you weigh like 300lbs or you're 8ft tall,
i think it will be a little big

my one and only setup:
i just got a 159 Rome Anthem with Rome Targa bindings
boots are Driver X from the big B

i'm quite happy with it :)

well, for freeriding or all mountain, a 165 would be good for you,
but definatly not for park!!

with you're height and weight, i would go for a 157-158 for park
definatly not over the 160 or you won't be able to spin anything...

i mean rotations in the air...
as a beginner park boarder you won't do quite allot of those,
but the shorter the board is, the more agile in the air and on the ground

it's no good starting to ride park with a 165
that's like riding a truck round a track--> you'll be able to, but it won't be lot's of fun..

i doubt it

i don't do park allot myself, but i've been on these forums quite a long time, and i've never heard anyone say they ride a park board over 160...

you could always make a topic in the snowboard section and you'll find out :)

Just bought this setup:

Board:
157 cm Sierra Crew for $99/shipped

http://www.sierrasnowboard.com/2009-Sierra-Crew-44805.asp

Bindings:
Size Large Burton Freestyle for $43/shipped (White/Brown)

http://www.sierrasnowboard.com/Burton-Freestyle-304.asp

Boots:
Solomon F20 size 29cm (11-11.5) boots
$104

What do you guys think of the current setup?  I consider myself a beginner/int. and this is my first board.
I tried getting a board that was the best bang for its buck.  LMK what you think.

Thanks!

That board's made at the Head factory, so it should be decent quality.  Don't know about the tech specs, but it should be fine for your first setup and better than most rentals.

I know from experience that Salomon makes good boots, even their lower end.  Good choice...assuming you got the right size.

Red flag the bindings.  They're Burton's lowest-end:  100% plastic, hardware looks weak, ladders look cheap, padding is thin.  Upgrading to Rome Arsenals or similar would be better.

Hallo everyone! I'm new here and I would like to ask you something. How wide should the snowboard be for a guy with 1.87 m (6.1 ft) height and 86kg (190lb) weight? 160? 162?

depends on the brand, makeup of the board/how stiff it is and what type or riding he's doing (park or all mountain).  Go to the brand's website and look up the board's specifications - there's usually a suggested weight range.

if there is no suggested weight, 160 and 162 are both a good all mountain size for that weight

Just picked up a new jibstick.  '09 Salomon sanchez.  Really wanted to try a rockered/ funky camber board this year, but the sanchez was too good a deal to pass up.  Took it for a park session last night, most fun I've had on a board in a while.
and pair of 32 TM Twos, as my pair of Lashed literally fell apart over the weekend after 2 years of hard abuse.

New weapon of choice:  08/09 Stepchild Hammerhead 159.  I've had it for a couple months now.  Fun on the mountain.  I'm spending a little more time in the park with this stick - its got plenty of pop, stable on the landings and a true twin so I can hope to graduate my switch riding from elementary school.  Using Rome 390's and Vans Encores BOA from my previous set up.  Last board was a Forum Warrior 160.  A freeride directional that was fun from top to bottom of the mountain.
I definitely don't know what I am talking about

07/08 Never summer SL 151 snowboard  $250.00
08/09 Burton Hail boots   $106.00
07/08 Rome 390 bindings  $114.00

Whole set up cost me less than $500.  I love this set up!

The SL has a lot of pop to it.  It's stable at high speeds and is built like a mofo TANK.  Excellent all mountain freestyle board.

2008 Burton Jeremy Jones 151 for sale!!!

Maybe this has been covered elsewhere, but how important in general are the length recommendations from manufacturers for basic functioning of the board?  Is it more preference? I understand that it depends on if you are in the park or powder what length the board should generally be for your size.  Some of the ranges are huge and being a fat ass I tend to fall at the high end on alot of the boards for the length I think i should be riding.

I just upgraded this year.  I bought a Nitro Jenna Meyen 153.  What a great board!  It sticks to the slope at insanely high speeds.  With my Salomon Classic bindings of last year and my trusty K2 Luna boots, I'm having a fantastic winter.
Don't Panic!
