Hey all, I may be a little late to the party, about 51 pages late.

But anyway I am a fellow E dweller, well Sherwood Park but close enough. Just wanted to drop by and say hello, and give a small back round.

I have not rode for nearly 10 years and am just getting back into it this winter. I have 2 or 3 good seasons from the past under my belt and hope that its like riding a bike. I have 2 beginners starting with me this year, my wife and nephew. They have never tried it but are taking the plunge, I sure hope it works out.

I am gonna be rolling in Northwave Legend boots (really comfortable compared to my old Airwalks), and a lasts years Forum Recon 156. I haven't scored bindings yet, but am thinking of getting last years Burton customs.

Do they have some really good board deals at the ski & snow show in late Oct? My wife is still looking for a nice board in the 147 to 149 range and is hoping to pick one up there.

We will be ridding at Sunridge I think, because its about 10 mins from my house. I would also like to give Rabbit hill and Snow valley a try. I hope to take the magic bus to Marmot basin in the spring as well. Any goods or bads about any of these hills?

Well thats my story, just nice to see some locals on here.

Sweet! I love when  people get back into riding after their last setup contained "late 90's airwalks". Customs should be good for you I'd say, but you can probably step up one or two notches and go with missions or cartels. It wont end up being too much difference in price, or you could look outside of burton and find something you might like better, but i sure wont shpiel about it!  Anyhow, not many of these edmonton dudes are on here it seems anyhow, but im sure theyll welcome you when they get out from their caves.

The good old days, sweet sweet airwalks. They didnt even have a removable liner in them.

I was going to step the bindings up a notch, but I have to outfit 3 people from scratch this year and its gonna cost a bundle. Last years customs are only $120, so its pretty cheap. I always used to ride Preston bindings in the past, they were made by Ride I think.

Thanks for the welcome, Im sure when there is snow everone will come crawling back here.

The Edmonton Ski and Snowboard show is cool to go to but the cost of some of the gear is a bit steep. If you are looking at cheap gear, check out some of the shops like Pacesetter; even Sportcheck is having a clearance on right now (Sportcheck has actually improved their lineup like Option boards, Northwave boots, and even Salomon bindings).  If you like Mervin Products (Libtech/Gnu ) there are not too many shops here that sell the brand, but definitely United Cycle carries them.

You may also want to look at just renting boards for the wife and nephew for now.  I was in the same boat before, was way too advanced for the wife and son. They really wanted to learn to ride but became frustrated with it, and didn't really want to go much afterwards.  This was after buying them some pretty sick gear. Do them a favour and get them some lessons too   . Honestly? I think at the end of the day, riding cost me my relationship and my home...but think of all the extra riding days I'll get in this season

Sunridge used to be quite a yawn but after adding several thousand tons of earth and adding a three-man high speed lift, it is now a really good place to go (off-mountain, that is). Considering where you live, you are only minutes from the hill which is totally sweet.

Thanks for the advice, the boy got a complete board, boot and binding from sportchek for under $200. Should be good enough for him. Plus he paid for most of it with paper route money he earned.

My wife on the other hand was different, its very hard to find good deals on womens stuff. She is also a stickler on it all looking good together, we got here new boots and bindings for $400 and ordered a board for $275. Of course she required all Burton gear, that looked pretty.

I on the other hand got my board in the mail yesterday, 2008 Forum Recon 156 for under $150USD. Its very much nicer than the pics of it. I also have a 2007 set of new Burton mission bindings in gunmetal grey comming for my board, $75 for them.

So if she doesn't like to ride then I am selling her with all of her gear as a package deal

I'm going to check our Pacesetter for some outerwear this week, any other suggestions on good shops to check out?

Im not even from edmonton, I just hangout in the forum. Haha, good go on saving money with the sportchek set up! And that sounds like a sick deal on that Recon, they have cool topsheets hey? Haha, usually the only shop I go to in Edmonton when Im there is Plush haha, mainly cuz Earl and Adam rode for them a couple years ago. (Earl from canadian Idol). Buut I'm not real sure on what kind of deals they will have there! Sorry dude, I dont get there to shop for myself often, its usually the girlfriend. Buut, a friend of mine keeps telling me how sick easy rider is, i need to get down there!

Check out "Out of Bounds". Also Sportcheck has Salomon and Helly Hanson outerwear for $150 (Seriously cheap right now, scooped a $400 Salomon jacket for $150). Go to the Londonderry Mall location; they still might have racks out with their outwear fire-saled...

I know you've been out of the scene for a while but even though Salomon is a ski outfit, they have really put a lot of thought behind rider's gear (and no, I've never skied a day in my life so I'm not a convert). Whatever Burton isn't buying up, the ski companies are.

Thats the Sportchek location that we got the youngsters jacket and pants from a couple weeks ago. I also took a spin by there last night and got a Helly Hanson AND a Salomon jacket for $157 taxes in. They put a buy one, get one sign on the wrong rack and had to honour it for me. Sweeeeeeet deal but now I have 2 jackets and only 1 torso?

Just need pants for my wife and I and we are almost set, I think we are going to go check out Pacesetter after Thanksgiving weekend to see what they have got.

Hey M-C I checked out Easy Rider, its cool but kinda pricey for me. Solid skate in Sherwood Park is a pretty cool place, thats were my wife got her boots and bindings. The sales people are super friendly, very pleasant to deal with.

Shit it might snow soon -4 this morning, I am putting winter tires on both cars tonight so we don't get caught with our pants down.

Thanks for the responses, it helps a fellow out. See you on the slopes.

I HAVE NEVER EVEN TRIED SKIING ONCE EITHER, makes me feel good inside to know that.

Yeah dude! i went to drive home from my girlfriends super late lastnight and was caught "with my pants down" when my fan in my car didnt work, so i had no defrost, and i didnt have a scaper (just got the car about a month ago and it didnt cross my mind). that was bad news, i scraped my windsheild with my flight of the concords case and drove 30 all the way home. So anyway, put the newfan in my car this afternoon, and turns out the switch is effed too, so now it only works on high... pretty dang annoying. Anyhow, I just got my outwear in the mail the other day, so im suuper excited. The coats pretty big, but i guess i can be one of those goofy gangster kids... it cant hurt. And im still waiting on my board, neither one i want is available yet, so Im holdin onto my last years deck with all my might!

Hey!.....so how was the summer?
too long if you ask me. Dying to ride.
Driving back from Kelowna the other day, saw the runs at Kicking Horse. I seriously need to book 3 days up there.

Anyways.....I see a few Sunridge riders. Danno.....sweet. M-C.. ..kewl......and a return to riding...Trumpits.
got my pass. All i need a few good men (or ladies) with days off in the week like me and I'm golden.
might even rock a new board. Something not as stiff as mine now. Trouble buttering it. But its all good.

Even put a post in cragislist  looking for ride buddies. No hits yet.

Oh yeah...welcome Trumpits...

Thanks for the welcome, I have seen that truck in your avatar before. In Sherwood Park last summer, was that you? Its a jacked old Ford or Chevy isn't it? Let me know if I am just on glue.

Where do you usually ride? I will probably just be rolling with the family for most of the year, unless they both quit on me! Then im a free man......

I will usually be riding in Sunridge I think, mostly weekends though. Some night riding there during the week would be cool, but we will see if thats possible or not.

I am actually quiting my job today, found a better opportunity else wear.

you might be on glue being that its a 1999 Dodge Durango. But you mat have seen it in the park.
Go there a bit. Every Thursday night at Oscars for quiz night. Mondays some times for darts.
I'll be ditching the "ride" for a "rome" in the back window this year. Mostly cuz I dont have any ride gear.

I'll be at Sunridge alot...like usual. Like to go every day off for a bout an hour or 2. About 3 or 4 times a  week.
About 5 day trips to Marmot. big white this year for a week. Kicking Horse I hope too.

A pump rebuilding shop north of Ft. Sask, its in the middle of nowhere between the Shell upgrader and Dow chemicals. I have mostly been doing tool and die work in the past, but its a dead trade out here.

If I could get a decent wage and apprentice to be a millwright I would do it in a heartbeat. Much more interesting than some of the machine shop work around here.

Oh well Ill just have to suffer with my high paying job, with great benifits.

The wixwaxy freeway isn't much fun at louise.. so i'll wait for snow if they ever get it.

If i was going i would say something clever like "See you on the lifts!" but since my manager was gay and made the schedual early, i didnt get to book it off, so now body my friend and I work, so we need to get people to work for us now.  I guess.. "Wont see you on the lifts!"   If not, the next week. But hopefully! There is still a chance!!

No way! Ended up going to Sunshine after all on Saturday (spur of the moment; left the house a 2:30 AM to make first chair). 60 cm base, awesome conditions considering what they're working with, 5 lifts open by noon. Sick!
